How Flying Scenes Are Shot For Movies And TV | Movies Insider | Insider
One of the biggest challenges for Hollywood’s stunt performers is creating flight that is both safe and believable. Since George Reeves portrayed Superman in the 1950s, movies and TV shows have used an endless variety of wires, pans, and other rigs to lift actors up high. The best tools depend on the type of flying on-screen. A huge breakthrough came in 1978's “Superman” when a visual effects artist discovered a way to operate the camera so that Christopher Reeve would appear to be flying even when he was lying flat. Today, many of those same wire and camera tricks are still used. However, digital doubles can make even the most dangerous flying tricks possible, while flying moves can be programmed in advance into a robotic arm, as seen in “Black Widow.” Elizabeth Olsen’s stunt double, CC Ice, told us about the many ways both Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War” and “WandaVision” made Wanda Maximoff fly.

How Flying Scenes Are Shot For Movies And TV | Movies Insider | Insider
That was really interesting! Credit to the stunt performers they clearly get taken for granted.
Absolutely
Lies again? Battery AA Fly Emirates
I really love how flying scenes are preformed. The actors must spend nearly half their days on set strapped to a harness in front of a green screen, which is certainly dedication at its finest!
Anyone would for millions of dollars lol
I am oddly happier knowing that practical effects are still used. Good vid.
Pretty sure these aren’t practical effects since nothing is being shown on using this method
That flying shot where Wanda flies into the town is always my favorite shot because it looks so natural and looks like it abides by the laws of physics despite not being real. Unlike most scenes where they just add a digital double and motion blur for take off scenes. Flying scenes in general always just look so natural for humans to do. Always wished I could fly like that.
Tsk tsk tsk
@@yellow_flash813 what
Ohnestly this is one reason to be an actor in holly wood
I remember when Christopher Reeve's Superman came out, everyone was so awed by his flying sequences.
Christopher Reeve really sold those flying scenes.
yeah, but he didn`t know how to fall from a horse.
Some of the best flying scenes are in Man of Steel when he first learns to fly The sound , the intensity , the speed all screamed through the screens.
Man of Steel was an AWESOME movie. And,yes, the flying scenes were-GREAT.
That tuning fork method looks like fun lol
Being a stunt double must be the most amazing job ever!
Until you get hurt!!
@@mrvn000 or die like the stunt double for Domino did on the set of Deadpool 2
Until you get hurt, and no insurance
@@hint0122 Who told you there was no insurance?
@@novaeah9565 how many of them have enough insurance to cover if they can't work again?
I always find it so fascinating that we've gotten so far with the digital effects, that you can barely tell it's not real. But it still becomes uncanny valley and unbelievable if they never show an actual person. Something in your brain knows it's not real, without the real person.
Really great video, I lovbed this one. Lots of neat info here about the diffewrent wire setups. Awesome :)
Stunt performers deserve fame same as actors
Or why not hire Tom Cruise and let him do everything on his own.
It will destroy the careers of other actors and also Hollywood won't afford him all the time, it will go bankrupt. It's true though that Cruise will fly by himself.
nah, jackie chan
@@notalchymy2491 Jackie Chan is not very active these days plus he is presumably older than Tom Cruise.
Even tom cruise use wire in mission impossible fallout bike accident scene
@@notalchymy2491 he's a commie
Too bad they didn't show the Batman scene. 🦇 It's a fine mixture of practical effects with precise special effects.
🦇

🦇
That was falling with style!
🤣 no
Personally I enjoy the process of making a movie than I sometimes enjoy the actual movie, I like to see the team of actors cg artists and everyone else show their parts into making these a lot more!
Man of steel has the best flying scenes ever
AGREED.TOO bad we didn't get MOS 2.And I most, definitely wanted a Ben Afleck-BATMAN film !!! Starring Ben and directed by him. But,it's never going to happen.
So much incredible core work & dedication!
I love the amount of work that takes to create just one simple scene.
Fascinating. 😎😎😎 I like how at the end it is all about paying respect due to those who paved the way for the present. 👍👍👍
What a content 🔥 amazing ✨ thanks a lot. This was really cool and soo much informative. Thanks 😊 again
my whole life has been a lie, i thought they could fly man, put some wires on me so that i can fly too and become a superhero

my favorites. Digital Doubles i Love it
Imagine if Tom Cruise or Jackie Chan could do this without a wire, that means physics doesn't matter anymore... 🤯🤯🤯
This is good, that way I can figure how to do stuff for my fan-fic character.
I always wonder do we really need to stretch out our hands while flying?
Aerodynamic? Like swimming
Nope, its for best look
Interesting videos as always 🌍💯
All that hard work only for the whole project to be panned by us movie snobs
The legend of wire...
Very insightful information
I wish to try that once. It seems fun!
then the magic starts afterward in the VFX studios.
Just the comment I was looking for
Loved watching this
Lovely flying scenes
Nice edit.
Tuning fork good job!
"Any technology that is sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic."
Great content
not from Hollywood but Ultraman often uses camera trick instead of wire to fly. But one instance they did, it was when the Ultraman going to fly but pulled back to ground by enemies. Hilarious. that what my friend said, though. so I am probably wrong.
Super cool✨️
Awesome!
Harry Potter flying quidditch is my favorite

Gosh stessa be so so much I'd love to do this even for free.😃😃😃
But how did they do it on The Flying Nun!? 😉
Hi! How are you? It's already Friday. I hope you have a healthy/feel good days on weekends/holidays, too. Thank you
That's cool
Hmm… You could have added some of the behind-the-scenes footage of the gliding scene from Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” (2022)!
The replacement device is shaped like something called a waist state and it rotates 360 degrees. Can you advise where I can get something like this?
I love flying
Why do almost all of them do that weird leg lift thing when "flying"?
Nice

Shouldn’t tell people that Super man needed cushion floors to soften his falls. 😣
I heard Tom Cruise is the only person on Earth to really learn how to fly untethered to keep all his earnings and so that fans could see it was his face in all the shots. He now also flies to work to save time and has been seen personally training Dwyane Johnson for his upcoming superhero movie. It's a reputation thing, you see.
I remember as a kid I dreamt I could fly, when I woke I thought it was true. Still my best dream even from those after puberty.
Ah so that's where triangular UFO's come from! Mystery solved : )
a lot of prep went on for the scene in Black widow which is also notoriously known for one of the worst sequences in MCU and Cinema. Also the sequences in WW84..🙃
The issues for Black Widow were that the writing made that scene forgettable, and the CGI was terrible (but considering that it was done during lockdown, I'd say the poor CGI gets a pass).
Man of Steel has the best flying scence ever
X-men really was the blueprint
And that’s how they do it on the ISS as well.
Curious at first, now I'm like, "Why would anyone want to know Napoleon."
The first Superman movie they did used animation to show Superman flying.
I guess one of the first UFO sightings was actually Superman.
Long live Tom Cruise... Long live Christopher Nolan! 😂
in the philippines movies, flying scenes still need improvements.

I always suspected cocaine when such scenes with flying guys appeared. But alas, i was wrong.
Has Holywood thought of hiring triplets. That way if they lose a couple they still have one left?
Christopher’s last name was “Reeve.” George’s last name was “Reeves.”
