  • Personally I agree with Barry in that his scene with Rosamund when he shocks her (and me) telling her she's f... beautiful is my favorite because at that point (and not before) I realized that I was gonna watch another movie. A new movie. A new Oliver. F... amazing. Loved it.

  • *This interviewer was simply not meant for this interaction. The questions asked just weren't ones that the others should've entertained. There are other people who could appreciate the deliciously twisted tale Emerald Fennell weaved and could've brought the excitement out of everyone else. I would've been floored if given the chance to interview them.* ❤

  • Thank you for this interview. I love Rosamund Pike, how she reminded everyone that the composer Anthony Willis to say what he wanted to say.

  • what a great movie. I'm seeing every video of Emerald Fennell to get more into her vision around the film.

  • It's a shame that Fennell was put in the position where she had to come right out and state the obvious, which is that Oliver is an extreme character (psychopath or not) who illustrates aspects of ourselves and our appetites for "love" (desire, possession, status, envy) that rom coms and even Gothic horror movies (except for vampire ones) don't usually delve into. She is right: There's something of Oliver in all of us, which is why the character is so compelling. And that self-evident truth is apparently is so difficult for some people to accept that they go into denial, just like Felix's family during that red-tinted shepherd's pie lunch...

    • Just my opinion but I don't like the idea of thinking that Emeralds vision of Oliver was that he wasn't a psychopath and that he is just a portrayal of emotional extremism that exists in everyone. A - of course he is an example of human emotion...because he is human? this felt like the pointing out of the obvious and doesn't add anything. B - the idea of Oliver being a psychopath explains the plot better --> Oliver is premeditated and calculated from the beginning (puncturing the tire), as he grows into Saltburn and decides this is what he wants, he acts off of greed but in a dry, thought-out and and thorough way - he is not spur of the moment or acting off anger. Oliver is a neat and organised character, he maintains his cool which enables him to wait out Sir James death for 16years until he begins trying to take the inheritance --> this feeds into what a psychopath is in my opinion and suggesting he acts off of extremism and making it up as he goes along is overly simplistic and makes him a shallow and unoriginal character.

    • I think her point is that he is not presented as a realistic psychological construction but a metaphor. He says it himself: "I'm a vampire." He doesn't mean that literally. As Fennell says, her films take place in a state that walks the line between the real and the unreal, with one foot in both worlds. I think she was being somewhat facetious, but I take her point that it's too easy to deny Oliver's function in the "fairy tale" if you simply distance yourself from him and say he's a psychopath. That's something psychopaths do: objectifying other people!

    • @@celinamartin4406I don’t think of Oliver as a psychopath. He’s a compulsive liar. Compulsive liars don’t have a plan (I have several on one side of the family as it was a coping tactic). Oliver is and has always been (according to his mother who makes excuses for it), a habitual liar and manipulator. That’s just his steady state. No one counts on waiting someone else to die of natural causes. Elspeth could have easily died in a car accident or some other family member or grifter could come in during those years. Compulsive liars lie to themselves first and foremost. Oliver telling himself “it was plan along” is how he convinces himself he wasn’t in love with Felix, when he totally was. Textbook compulsive liar. It’s not that compulsive liars don’t care about others, they totally do, just they are extremely exhausting to deal with. Especially with family members cover for the compulsive lying. The worst thing for a compulsive liar is to be alone. Which is exactly where Oliver is at the end.

  • Saltburn is an amazingly beautiful movie... a true Gothic Fairytale. I can honestly imagine Barry playing the Pied Piper (my favourite fairytale character EVER) Barrry reminds me of James Dean but I'm not quite sure why.... something in his aura maybe... He's a wonderful actor & seems to have a great personality. The Killing of a Sacred Deer is the movie that first brought Barry into my consciousness & he was amazing in that too. Love him!!!

  • The interviewer was terrible. To call Oliver a psychopath was dismissive of the depth of his character. I think Emerald really took offense to comment. The interviewer should really consider a new line of work as she seems to have trouble connecting to her panelists.

    • A lot of people call Oliver a psychopath though. While I strongly disagree, a lot of people reduce people they don’t like down to “psychopath” or “sociopath” is a very specific term. To the point where some professionals don’t use those terms anymore.

  • Such a shame the moderator carried such a narrow, glib perspective of this fascinating work. And if you're going to facilitate a panel with British artists, at least try to understand the nuances of dry humor, language, etc.

  • What an awful interviewer. So judgmental, so dismissive, so condescending. She sucked all the air out of the room almost immediately and insulted the filmmakers and the entire cast. Even if she personally didn’t care for this beautiful film, a professional (especially one that claims to empower women) should have the ability to ask thoughtful questions that highlight the nuances and stengths of any film.

  • On Oliver's side? Really? Ok that family was horrible (Felix was not) but we're talking about a cruel murderer-and not just on the dancefloor :)

    @francescamaria6818@francescamaria68184 ай бұрын
    • Felix is horrible, we just see him through Oliver’s lense. The second Oliver cleaned for him, he dropped Oliver like a hot potato. He pulled white fragility on Farleigh and then still threatened to cut off Farleigh, while seeing Farleigh crumple because he dared to be genuinely honest. He really betrayed his cousin there. Being an interracial child is NOT easy. (The screenplay says he regrets his honesty.) Felix does not seem to treat women the best either and tends to see people as disposable if he does not get to be the hero of the poverty cosplay fantasy he has. Not to mention while we know Oliver wasn’t telling the truth prying into his family life and answering his phone? Way too far. That whole shared bathroom scenario? Definitely a manipulation tactic. Just because Felix is “nicer “ then the rest of his family does not mean he is a good guy. He totally didn’t seem interested in helping his obviously struggling sister, which I do think he loved, if the matching tattoos are anything to go by.

  • Sorry I was not on Oliver’s side by the end of the movie. He killed 3 people heartlessly. I believe he was a sociopath, controlled by his selfishness, his unbridled, passion, possessiveness, obsession, and desire. To me it was a movie about Oliver’s slow moral decay and disintegration. The only things I liked about the movie were the cinematography, the acting and the music. The thing that disappoints me is that Oliver got away with 3 murders, and there was no way he could be bought to justice.

  • I am just surprised that someone like her gets to be an interviewer. I was terribly annoyed when she said "The whole scene was insane, completely insane" and then quickly moved onto the next topic without allowing anyone else to talk about it. Unbelievably judgmental and arrogant. It's fine if she didn't like the movie, it is normal that everybody responds differently. But if you are going to behave like this in front of creators of the movie, she should have let someone else to do the interview, someone who has much deeper appreciation for the movie and prepares much better questions. This was such an appalling interview.
