Gorillaz - Skinny Ape (New Song) - San Francisco, Live, 9-21-22, Chase Center, 1st row. Damon: It's inspired in part by one of those... Amazon bots that walks down the road and delivers things. lol
Other Tidbits:
Damon Albarn (before El Mañana): San Francisco, or indeed the Bay Area, we've been here a few times.. It's kind of instrumental for us being here in a sense, because the first producer we worked with, Daniel's amazing (Dan the Automator), who's here, I don't know where he is (fans cheer).. And somebody else, who... I don't want to say anymore about that (Del the Funky Homosapien was to be a later surprise guest!).. But in a very big way, musicians from this place were a reason why we had such an amazing journey, whatever you want to call it, so it's very nice to be back here! Thank you!
"This is a new song. It's inspired in part by one of those... things that come out of Silicon Valley. The Amazon bot that walks down the road and delivers things. It's something that we haven't got in my little island, far away... yet. And I saw it first in Los Angeles and it inspired me to pen this tune.. It's a new song on our album."
During Kids With Guns, Damon came down to the rail and signed a fan's Gorillaz original album, which was really nice and fun to see. Damon then went into the GA Floor to be with the other fans and came out with a metallic rainbow officer's cap and flower-rimmed sunglasses, which he then wore for the next few songs, which was funny lol.
(Before Opium, wearing the rainbow cap and flower sunglasses for the piano intro) OK, I'll be honest... I did start off wanting to be Elton John. lol
The band and staff were great with the fans throughout the VIP soundcheck and the show. For example, Jeff Wootton and Seye Adelekan often leaned over to give out their guitar picks to the front row in between songs, Damon took a fan's phone mid-song and sang to it before tossing it back to him during Cracker Island, Jeff also came down to the rail after the end of the show to hand me a pick (it has a picture of Russel Hobbs) and gave the setlist to another first row fan. The fans were great as well, some made gifts for the band which we gave them at the soundcheck, others had homemade Gorillaz buttons, masks and gave them away to all the people who lined up early, etc. Many are going to both the SF and LA concerts. Great show!

How can a song start as Idaho, have a middle section like Magic City and end with Momentary Bliss. Albarn is the fuckin best
😊👍
How about NOT comparing songs and just enjoying it. Skinny Ape is not a combination/amalgamation of all those songs but a brand new one. I don't see any similarity with Magic City - unless of course you meant melancholy which is inherent for many Gorillaz songs.
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 bro chill it’s not that serious, they are obviously still enjoying the song lmao
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 they were enjoying the song??? It was a compliment???
So fucking accurate
Security also made sure to give the people in the front water so people stayed hydrated at this show, which was a really nice touch. They looked like baby birds being fed
Denver too, security was awesome
New York City as well!
Friday 13th + Idaho + Momentary Bliss = Skinny Ape
YES
damon:this is a new song :) crowd: *DIES*
I love how Damon cracks a smile every time he sings the "I'm a Cartoon, G" line in the chorus.
Can already feel it this album is going to be top 3 with Demon Days and Plastic Beach
It won’t, but it’s nice dream
@@lauriegill9171Yes it will Laurie Gill
Yes, all the songs released so far have been really good! I have high hopes!! 🔥🔥
oof, self titled is #1 and #1 without debate.
@@deepfriedpickle3610 the album not even out yet bro
Loved hearing this live, the whole concert was amazing and online recordings of it don’t do it justice. If y’all ever have a chance to see Gorillaz live, DO IT.
Going in Dallas in a week!
I'm seeing them in 24 hours - at The LA Forum in Los Angeles (well, Inglewood technically).
Saw them in salt lake the other day, they didn’t play an unreleased songs tho 😢
It's on my list. Desperately want to see gorillaz live
I was planning on being at this show, but a family issue came up & I had to cancel :( I have seen Gorillaz live twice & both times were amazing; I would love to be able to see them a third time
I know the official studio version will be different, but this sounds beautiful
Well it’s out, what do you think of it?
@@jemzwi not the same person but tbh I’m not the biggest fan of the studio version. I love it but it’s not my favorite and I much prefer it live
the visuals are absolutely amazing on this
I was just thinking the same, the screens got me mesmerised like a moth to a light rn 😭😭
Love this. Something about Gorillaz that transcends time. Like Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin... they are a forever band.
Man I was there and it was an honor to listen to it first hand
I too was there. They were amazing.
@@fghjxcvb me 3
@@fghjxcvb I really can't wait for the new album to release. Gorillaz has never got it wrong for me
@@whoami784 Who are you anyway?
@@fghjxcvb good question...
This is such a blur era song and i love It so much. It gives me such an good feeling
Lol how??? It's really not
Its not a blur song without Graham
I get a little bit of a tender vibe
@@user-qe5uv1cj1x Think Tank is pretty good, tho.
Yes, the fast bit at the end has spiky, Modern Life is Rubbish Sunday Sunday vibes and I AM HERE FOR IT!!!
Damon really knocking the new songs out of the park. LOVE this song.
An absolutely unforgettable experience, and by far the BEST damn concert I've ever seen. The crowds energy was absolutely electric. Gorillaz is a must see live. Please, if you have never gotten a chance to see them, go see them live. And if you can swing it, try and snag one of those Disciplez VIP tickets. They're worth it.
I love how Damon looks like a giddy school girl at 4:43
This song in my opinion absolutely has the potential to be a top 5 Gorillaz song ever
Agreed
But it's like an ending song 🥲🥲
4:05 You can hear a bird, maybe a eagle? 🤣🤣🤣
Or maybe me ?
this song gives me CHILLS. i cannot wait until they officially release it omg
This song brings literal fucking chills.
Skinny Ape is my favorite song on the album! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
APE APE APE APE APE APE APE APE APE APE APE APE APE APE
Esta canción bien podría ser de sus primeros discos...
I won tickets from the radio to see them in Boston recently. The Gorillaz had been on my bucket list for ages (I’m 37) and seeing this song live brought me to tears. What an amazing show. I’m so glad I got to see them in my lifetime.
This one gives me Now Now vibes. This album is gonna be very varied!
The Now Now if it was a good album. This song is better than this whole album itself
best song off the new record by FAR. such a powerful song, and what a crazy ending.
The guitar in the beginning is so beautiful I can’t wait for thisss
I was there live watching..omg this song made me actually shake. The melody and lyrics..I will never forget this concert and feel so damn lucky to finally have seen Gorillaz in my lifetime
This song is magic
alot to chew on here with these lyrics, it's a really pretty one and i LOVE the visuals. just thinking out loud here but in relation to the amazon delivery robots, i think this track has a plight of 2D/Albarn feeling similar to a little robot, built to make deliveries (his art) to people that ask him to (fans), that you can't really properly thank or know on a personal level (obviously a delivery robot cannot reciprocate emotions, the same way us fans cannot understand his personal life), hence the whole "don't be sad for me, im a cartoon" i think it is woeful in a way, as the track is asking the listener to not get bogged down the writer's sadnesses and turmoil but to just be there and accept himself and the art as they are: a cartoon that brings us happiness to watch/listen to/make fan art of haha
I was there and I’m pretty sure I screamed so loud I annoyed the shit out of the ppl in front of me 💀💀💀
Love it, every song so far has been so different. Damon’s such a gifted songwriter
He's an incredible musician, and in my opinion the best of the past 2 decades The way he's easily able to switch genres and keep things fresh is amazing
@@BassBanj0 Couldn’t agree more
@@BassBanj0 absolutely. And lets make it the last 3 decades - the Blur years were amazing too. Oh and the solo albums. Diamond bloke for sure!
I would never say gorillaz are my favourite band, but I would definitely say Damon Albarn is my favourite songwriter, dudes a straight up genius
@@mitchhodge7868 you like his lyrics or instrumentals ?
Love Gorillaz and Damon, Great song and stage setup, but the best part is the girl screaming in my ears.
Me encanta como va por el megáfono jajaja
i couldn’t have been happier to be there in person
OMG I LOVE IT AND THE VISUALS ARE SO BEAUTIFUL This song gives out the same energy as "Momentary Bliss" Also I predicted this song is about 2-D and his insecurities.
This song is incredible man this album is incredible already and it hasn't been fully released
Was at the concert. My first time seeing them. Absolutely incredible experience
Loved Damon since the Blur days and he just gets better and better.
probably going to be one of the most best tracks ever
this show was incredible, first time ever hearing them live
I woke up with this song in my mind
music and visual going so hard the video starts melting.
live version is so much better but still ITS AMAZING
La visual proyectada de esta cancion es hermosa!
También
1:16 lmao i forgot im 2d
I love the studio version, but the live one is from another planet
Heard this live and I straight up cried.
The best so far...
this man makes me feel things i can't describe. i'm literally lost for words. thank u so much, damon, once again 💘
This song made me sob so badly for some reason
I'm honestly shocked that the official version is barely even a shadow of the live performance. I saw them on this tour in Austin and literally cried when I heard this song. The official version....... Idk wtf happened but it's just ok compared to what was captured in this cell phone video.
I think its just the problem of having it premiere in a live setting rather than releasing the studio version first, people expect the same energy levels of a live concert when that happens. I love the studio release though because of how much clearer it is than any live version we're gonna get unless they purposely record a live version of all their stuff with the same energy as a concert.
@@King_Geedorah for sure. I've grown to like it more throughout the day and it's obviously still a great song.
It’s because first impressions are always what stick in your head. As someone who has listened to the studio version rather than this live one, the studio one actually sound more natural to me
THIS IS SO GOOD FUCKK
It was such a good song to listen to at the concert. So glad I went there with my friend! ✊
I’m patiently waiting for this song to come out
This is a song for the ages
To whoever kept screaming, i hope you have an itch in awkward places you can’t itch
They were right in my ear the whole concert and were pushing me up on the barricade. The hearing damage was worse from the screaming than the speakers honestly.
I laughed waaay to hard when someone yelled "BRING PUT STEVIE NIIIIICKS"
Seen them Monday and holy shit what a god damn show. A must see.
This was one of the best live shows I have ever seen! If they come anywhere near you... go see them! It's worth every penny!
This had to have been the greatest experience of my life. So many tears while hearing this song, and momentary bliss. Ive loved this band since I was a toddler, it meant so much. PLEASE SEE THEM IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE!!!
This album is gonna be one of their best
This was an amazing concert the whole experience was just surreal and the perfect first real concert i was in cosplay with my friend we were dressed as 2d and noodle in clint Eastwood
Gorillaz have always been my number one favourite music band of all time coldplay is my 2nd favourite band after Gorillaz
Ya quiero escuchar la versión de estudio de esta canción
Absolutely love this!
The visuals itched my brain in a good way lol
I love it.
God I can’t wait for this song. I listen to this so much.
