See in this vid that he has a tendency to underthrow. In college that may not matter too much but in the pro's it could be a problem. I'm not sure if it's just an adjustment he'll make or whether at 190 lbs it's indicative of a little less arm strength. I really liked him a week ago until I watched this vid. He's still a clever QB with some elusiveness.

I'm not sure if it's just an adjustment he'll make or whether at 190 lbs it's indicative of a little less arm strength. I really liked him a week ago until I watched this vid. He's still a clever QB with some elusiveness.
The arm talent and poise is definitely there. If he can figure it out between the ears in the NFL, he’ll be a franchise QB.
Hello be average at best. Not worth a 1st round pick. Would rather Denver pick Dallas Turner or Jared Verse.
If we’re talking Denver, then yeah I wouldn’t take him lol
The poise is lacking in my opinion. Impatient in the pocket. Throws off his back foot a lot
He hasn’t show he does not have it between the ears. He just lack the opportunity to throw and be a focus point.
@@blazinpyromaniac He easily has the best footwork in this class.
I don't see how so many people are thinking he's just a backup in the NFL or that he's got no shot at being great. I see no arm strength limitations on him. You got to watch them play, not only stat watch. He looks like he can be something.
Exactly they look at the stats for Caleb Williams and they’re like oh he’s great but if you watch that team he has like 20 seconds in the pocket to throw.
I like how he keeps his eyes down field when he’s scrambling! A lot of those throws are NFL throws to not wide open receivers! I warming up to my Broncos taking him!
Underrated comment here. Alot of QBs would have tucked and run on most of those broken plays.
Not so fast guy. Skol
J.J. is an absolute badass! This kid's goin' places he should be a first round pick in the NFL Draft! But i hope he decides to stay with the Wolverines for another season GOBLUE!!
He sucks
He & Jayden Daniels are my favorite QBs from the 2024 draft class.
Underrated QB he’ll get to the NFL & be one of the best quickly
Vikings hopefully
He's a Viking skol
That Roman Wilson guy is pretty good.
LOL
This guy will be special
You really do see it. He has less than reps than other 5 QBs, but him and Caleb just make the most special throws in my eyes. He's also 3 yrs younger than Nix, Penix, and Daniels. Franchise potential
“They said the kid couldn’t throw the deep ball” that’s one of my favorite quotes as of recent. His accuracy is amazing and he’s got a hell of an arm, JJ is gonna do great on Sundays if he continues playing at his best
😂
Longest pass was 54 yards. They wouldn’t be wrong. 😂 Y’all are causals
@@tojo262 so that says he doesn't have a arm huh? I trust the coaches who recruited and watched him practice than your dumb ass take.
@@tojo262 75 yards.
@@JohnVJay last year 😂
Besides the throw against Maryland, he seems like he knows how to protect his receivers really well
I think he could be an NFL QB. But I do think a few of those passes would be very easy interceptions for NFL CBs
Idk what it is but for some reason i think he might be the best qb coming out. 🤷🏾♂️. i’m getting brock purdy vibes for some reason. if he gets drafted by the raiders mark my words this kid is going to be Great…
Think the bears are gonna take him. Harbaugh compared him To luck
His ball is way slower than purdys and so is his release
Purdy is overrated, he isn't anything more than a system qb period
His odds were 10000 last month to be first overall pick. It’s now 200… I think youre onto something
He can really put that thing on a rope, but I think he needs more development. He has a very high ceiling being so young, could see him becoming a star if he sits behind a pro for a year or two.
That's crazy his play style is so similar to Jim Harbaugh's
Bear fan here, I was thinking the same thing
Would love to see the Vikings draft him and give him a year to redshirt behind Kirk before taking over.
U sir have a large brain
He aint going at 11 that’s for sure
@SkaiiV if Kwesi sleeps on him at 11, he'll regret it. McCarthy's draft stock is rising.
We don’t need Kirk ! Give it to JJ right away. Load up on players instead of spending 30 million plus! Our offense is Taylor made for a rookie QB that’s great !!!!
@michaeldemaio257 u obviously don't know what ur talking about becuz regardless if we have kirk or not we owe him money this year. Keeping kirk and letting JJ learn from him for a year is a great scenario. Throwing JJ in year 1 especially in 2 completely different offenses is crazy. Jj needs a year to sit
This kid is better then people think I hope he goes where he can make an immediate impact like Seattle or Atlanta
We don’t want Zach Wilson 2.0 in Seattle. I’d rather have Geno than this guy. Put McCarthy on that shitty USC team and and we wouldn’t even be talking about him right now... 😂 Worse prospect than Zach Wilson imo.
@@tojo262 Zach Wilson never won a National Championship or played in a pro-style system. Shows how little you know about football. Also, Zach Wilson went to the Jets, need I say more?
@@therealrockguru put Zach Wilson on that team he could’ve handed it off 30 times a game too. McCarthy literally had a game with 8 pass attempts vs Penn state. Goated 😂
@@tojo262 I watch tape for a living. McCarthy's tape is solid. He is a pro QB and if he goes to the right system, he'll be a winner in the NFL.
@@tojo262 name any high draft QB that has done well on the NY Jets the past 20 years. That team is bad luck. Look at Rodgers on the first series last year. Geno Smith in NY vs in Seattle. Need I say more?
is gonna fly up boards, talented in a run heavy offense
poise, patience, accuracy, anticipation, solid athlete, extends plays and keeps his eyes downfield. I'd like to see him gain 15 pounds to make him more durable but it's hard to poke holes in what i just watched.
I'd like to see more quickness and a moon ball of some sort. We also need a rigorous analysis of his football IQ. If I'm Detroit, I'm drafting him and trading Goff, Goff is too stiff and leisurely to my liking. McCarthy got better legs and better agility and pliability. But Detroit's Detroit and they'll fumble their chance at him.
He will be. Patriot with their second round pick, after getting MHJ with their first
That's what I was thinking. But even with a great WR, they need help on the Online. Tough to not consider Joe Alt (if they trade down) at OT or Jayden Daniels at QB if they stay put.
I'd take him over Drake Maye. Plus he's a Michigan boy (hmmm, reminds of some other kid from MI the Pat's acquired years ago that seemed to have a pretty good career) and has Harbough experience..
He’s definitely got chemistry with #1 Roman Wilson.
Gonna be an absolute stud in pros. Just watch. Similar to Herbert and Love, in the sense he's a better pro than college QB
Good point. I think bears gonna shock world and take him
He is the flavor of the week, so I thought I’d watch some highlights. He can make all the throws, he’s decisive, and he’s fast. 💨 Sold! #seahawks P.S. Package deal with Roman Wilson
Seems like he has good composure moves well throws on the run. Kind of gives me flashbacks of watching cousins takeoff running having the whole field in front of them and then deciding it’s a better idea to throw to someone who’s covered
Legitimately, there is not a better QB prospect. He actually sees the field.
He is so tallented and they really didn't ask him to carry the team in those big games like penn st, ohio st, bama, and washington. But when the did need him to make the play he did especially in the bama game. He could have thrown for 400 yards if needed in many of these games
Him and Caleb Williams are gonna be the 2 best
He's not as inconsistent as Maye, not as weak-armed as JD, and not a poison pill like CW. JJ may not be the best at anything, but he lacks the obvious weaknesses of the so called "top three".
I see him and CJ Stroud having some nice shoot outs in the future to come.
I think he’ll me a great qb for the patriots
He’ll be a patriot
Bruh… 👀🏆〽️🏈 LFG!!!
I’m honestly shocked he gets so much hate. It just shows how hated u of m truly is. He’s extremely likeable, fun to watch, and has incredible talent. Perfect nfl franchise qb to have. That’s why he’s projected top 12.
2:45 that is how you pass protect as an RB. Kalel flattened the LB 😂
As a GIANTS fan he makes so much sense. But i haven't watched any of his games not a college fan but he looks legit
I need an updated one with the natty and playoffs added
I hope the broncos consider him - I think he can run Sp offense & he'll probably sit for a year to get his feet underneath him. The team is going for a total rebuild so there's no pressure.
I strongly agree. I see the Broncos picking up someone like Jameis then drafting McCarthy since Jameis played for SP many times before.
I think he's the best fit for the broncos to be honest.
I’d rather see Penix go to the Broncos
@@bbroncos747 to injury prone is either JJ or Bo Nix for me
@@bbroncos747 I wouldn't be mad at that. The only thing that worries me is his injury list.
That long wound up and draw when passing the ball is the only negative he has as an qb on the next level. He will have to work on that
What about his terrible pocket presence
@@omegamanGXEits not bad his mechanics and accuracy are
This QB class is stacked
I’d love to see some film of him playing against better competition the Big Ten has like three good teams but he does throw well on the move seems pretty quick
That’s what I’m saying mostly some of his opponents were not ranked I am really curious to see how he would play in the Pac 12
@@robertmathis7112pac12 is the big ten with less defense
You watch these highlights regardless of who they're playing, he's placing the ball into tight windows where only his receivers can make plays. Very accurate on back shoulder throws & throwing on the run.
@@robertmathis7112 He beat the alleged "best" PAC12 team - did you miss that?
Did ya miss the game against bama The ROSE BOWL? JJ made plays with his arm and his legs. Dude is legit. Then went on to do the same against UW in the CFP Championship Game.
Viking!!!
Mock draft got him in Las Vegas, hope they're right cause this boy can ball
Something about his throwing motion that makes it seem like he can’t/ doesn’t zip it as much as he actually does. Ball doesn’t really jump off his hand even tho he can spin it. Really good composure, athleticism and playmaking tho.
calling it now! JJ is gonna be the next Joe Burrow
He’s a Viking
Michigan Tight end looks a good player
JJ reminds me of Josh Allen in college big arm, mobile so he can be great
Kinda got a old school player feel to him.
Viking book it
Very accurate
He’s going to be a great Raider
I dont know why people comparing him to Patrick mahomes i dont see it... To me this man plays like drew brees 💯 patient, constantly scanning and eyes down the field while moving out the pocket, can sit calm in the pocket and deliver while taking the hit, not a strong arm but accurate and efficient 💪🏾 he can definitely be a HOF behind the right coach and veteran and i do think ATL will sign bill belichick and maybe kirk cousins to help him while letting JJ learn behind a veteran player 💜🖤💜
He would be a good Qb for the Raiders, with the defense they have plus the weapons, he’s got mobility. Wouldn’t mind if they drafted him, even if he’s not really my 1st choice or even follow fans
As a raiders fan im only okay with JJ if its a 2nd round pick. That first pick has to be CB1 or DT1 …. That defense is a couple of peices away from being special
@@thelifeofb8319 that offense isn’t special, and should be used on a QB whether trading up or down.
@@thomaszimmerman6375 not at 13 , they can trade back into the first round . I guarantee after the first 3 qbs get snatched the others will slide down.

The way things have gone lately with the Raiders in the offseason and it being too expensive to trade up for Jayden Daniel’s. I’m thinking the Raiders are going for this Wolverine.
I was waiting to see a highlight against a quality opponent and there were 2. Both against Ohio state. 1 should have been ruled and INT and the other was an absolute prayer on the sideline.
McCarthy sucks
@@omegamanGXEJJ has made that exact same throw several times rolling out to his right and delivered lasers to a spot where only his guy can catch it. He's done it twice against fO$U, another time against PSU and also against bama. Still butthurt that fO$U can't beat Mich-AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN, huh fuccnut?
I’d love to see him in Denver.
3:32 illegal forward pass
Feet never touch. He was in the air
I see he also has the Kenny Pickett 360 move to the left.
As a Wolverines fan I hope goes to a team like Seattle or Minnesota. I know my Patriots are probably going to go Daniels or Maye with the 3rd pick but if they somehow signed Cousins which likely won't happen and draft Harrison Jr. then I wouldn't mind McCarthy sitting and learning for a year or two.
Straight to the raiders 🔥
Broncos Country lets draft JJ
This kids gonna be a problem at the next level. Would like to see when he puts air under his passes becuz all his passes were darts basically.

The next QB of Raiders
Seahawks drafting this guy. I have the script.
They should take the hometown kid Michael Penix Jr. imo. He's 3 years older and more polished as a passer right now. Could step in from Day 1 and be a problem, whereas I think McCarthy needs a couple more years of seasoning before he's ready. Just my 2 cents.
@@bballer1913 years older? How is that possible?
@@PessimisticRavensFamPenix suffered season-ending injuries in 4 separate seasons at Indiana before transferring to Washington, plus the NCAA gave every athlete an extra year of eligibility due to covid
@bballer191 Penix is going to need a solid offensive line to keep him upright, which Seattle doesn't have. I think J.J. Mccarthy makes more sense because of his mobility to escape those pass rushers (similar to what they did with Russell Wilson)
@@willvaldez2801 JJ McCarthy is terrible though

Second round to the Bears? Why not?
In the first clip he jukes a blitzer DB, and still throw a nice ball. He has good pocket management, good timing, and nice touch. I preffer him over Drake Maye. He's gonna be better, I'd bet he would be taken 2nd.

FUTURE NYG
Wilson hasn't been the same since his concussion...hope the cobwebs clear up
You literally can only get so many concussions and then your career is over. And I think once you get one you are more susceptible
Pros ,good intermediate to deep ball, finds the windows in the defense, trusts his oline (a good oline) and goes through his progressions, can buy time and scramble making initial blitzers miss behind the los, good ball placement, composed under center and directs traffic Cons, decision making is questionable when he has to stay in the pocket and stare down the barrel of pressure, haven't seen him get hit much, won't get away with throwing into double coverage as much in the league, can he pull it down and run with it not just scramble to buy time, had great talent to work with in the secondary as well as oline, can he do as well without that much? Very brock purdy esque imo with a bigger arm ...
Above all else, ELITE POCKET AWARENESS!
I honestly don't know what the reason is for all the McCarthy hate. He's got a live arm, he's mobile when he needs to be, can play off-script when the pocket breaks down and has experience in a pro-style system, not to mention championship experience. I'd love for the Seahawks to draft him.
Welcome to Minnesota
Who’s here after the Vikings selected him?#Skol
I don’t know what to make of the throw at 1:55. Did he know the safety was gonna turn around? He started the motion before the safety turned his back to McCarthy. If the safety doesn’t turn that’s an easy pick.
Where’s all the film from the 2 best defenses he played in PSU & OSU? I only saw 2 clips.
JJ only threw 8 passes against PSU and completed 6. He was banged up and couldn't scramble so theyvran the ball 32 consecutive times and paved PSU. As for fOSU, he's 2-0 and has 6 TDs and ZERO interceptions in 2 games.
The Giants are interested which mens he'll be the next Giants QB running for his life, poor bastard
Welcome to the Raiders ❤
Future Falcon With the #8th Pick
I don't know his stats, but I'd take him over Drake Maye just based on this highlight reel alone. I think the Patriots outta have their heads examined if they don't snag him
