  • I saw Bruce Lee in person In Washington DC at the Jhoon Rhee International Karate tournament in 1968. I was 10 feet away when he did a 20 minute demonstration included his one inch punch. He was unbelievable and cocky with incredible hand speed. His two finger jab too the eyes would have ended his opponent before it began. I am now 75 years young.

He was very fast indeed but there is a lot of myth around Him..... So brutal, amazing, like lighting a match with those nunchuks, yes but someone like Dos Santos would send Him back to China with a kick or two. ( My humble opinion not stating it to be true )

  • People who argue over whether Bruce Lee would win in a fight against a "real fighter", or a "professional fighter", or some superstar don't quite understand. Bruce Lee didn't become as epic as he was simply from training, or fighting in an arena, or working out. Bruce Lee LIVED martial arts. He was absolutely obsessed with it. His dedication to perfecting his body was almost maniacal. In a sense he was a member of the society of martial artists that had all but died out by his time who worshiped the martial body to an exclusion of almost all other material things. Toning his body was his profession, his hobby, his love, his entertainment, heck it was his breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert.

    • Yes Bruce Lee did all of that training, but hardly any of it would be effective against a professional fighter. I doubt Bruce Lee could take a real punch, fictional Kung Fu movies is not real fights, they are staged, rehearsed and scripted, with several retakes to use the best shots. Bruce Lee was only an actor with zero real fight wins.

That would be like comparing Bill Nye to Einstein. But he was definitely dedicated to martial arts and fitness. Chuck Norris's acting career was successful only due to his martial arts ability. He has almost no acting talent at all and only got into acting because his brother made movies. So yes he was an actor, no he was not a star.

In point sparring, disqualification will take place for the following reasons; excessive contact (pretty much any), techniques to forbidden areas, blind techniques, and poor sportsmanship. For the former three, you will be given one warning before being DQed. For the latter you will be immediately ejected. That's a hell of a lot less impressive than you're trying to make it seem.

    • idurisu I know, but he still made it up, it’s his style; what he used. I heard in a documentary that one of the main principles of the JKD was to make it up as you go and do what suits you the best, fights in real life won’t go exactly as rehearsed in the training room so learn the basics and foundations as much as you can so you can make up the style as you go (I’m probably wrong though I’m not quite sure if it was JKD or some other martial arts style, I don’t have a lot of room to talk about here, I’m just saying some thoughts)

    • I do believe his stand up would be the best in the world, but he would have to learn the ground game better, which I have no doubt he would easily master. Wouldn't surprise me that if in an alternate reality Bruce fought in mma, that he would likely end up being at least a 3 weight class world champion. I just don't think anyone would be able to cope with his speed mixed with his strength, it's just unreal. And clearly his IQ and reaction time is off the charts too. Would be the most interesting fighter to watch for sure. No other martial artist has captivated the world to his extent.

Do your research yourself man stop buying into words of doubters, seriously, name 1 one reputable martial arts master that does not respect the master Bruce ? Maybe you fit in with the " WHY I DON'T LIKE BRUCE LEE " CREW. He literally changed martial arts in form and film and philosophy, and he not only had to fight racist, he had to fight his own people and the overly traditional rules that they tried to apply to him, to prevent him from teaching anyone who was not Chinese. The Master has brought so much inspiration to the whole world and so much teachings, and all you can do is try to knock his legacy and diss on his death......because 100% of the people that doubt were just jealous because they cant accomplish a nano fraction of his skills. and if your going to tell me you didn't want to go buy a pair of nun-chucks after seeing Bruce use em ? then your lieing to yourself. so stop being a media victim, You sound like you probably believe Michael Jackson actually did what " the media " said he did. So stop dissing on the ones that have passed. and yes the master told me to tell you " Boards don't hit Back " and if you get your ass kicked by someone, it's Bruce Saying " hello"

    • Ursella Levias. Please stop. Wake up. You don't know what you're talking about. Lee was the Hong Kong interschool boxing champion of 22 high schools at age 18 ( that's an adult male physique..age 18 ). He only trained with gloves on..for that competition, for 5 months...and won. He was in hundreds of street fights in Hong Kong from age 12 to 18...often several fights per day. He was thrown out of LaSalle high school in Hong Kong for all the fighting. Often he was in fights with chains and knives. He traveled around in a gang then for a few years. In one of his last fights he broke the other guys jaw AND arm....and police were summoned to his parents home and he was almost sent to jail. How many pro MMA fighters can you name that have EVER broke an opponents jaw AND arm, in a fight? I'll answer that for you: NONE. Lee was doing that at 17 and 18 with bare fists. That is why his father sent him out of Hong Kong at age 18 and to the USA....because he didn't want Lee ending up in jail. He also as attested by MANY witnesses, won all streetfights and challenge fights he had here in the states...and there are at least 30 of those we know of. And most of those were against bigger taller opponents. The best, top martial arts champions of the 1960's sparred with Lee and got slaughtered. The best of them,(many) such as Joe Lewis and Olympic gold medalist champion for Judo, Hayward Nishioka...have stated in video interview how incredible Lee's abilities, attributes, power speed, explosiveness was. That he was possibly, pound for pound one of the strongest people in the world. And that Lee toyed with them. The best Karate champions of that time took private lessons FROM LEE. His attributes were freaky and olympic level or better regarding a few. Film footage shows a 8.5 punch per second maximum speed. His explosive cannon like power in punches and kicks were and are legendary. Joe Lewis got tagged by Lee on the daily and said so. He also said, " And though he only weighed about 140 pounds, he had the punching power of a heavyweight." His closing the gap speed has been timed by counting film frames shows that he could close the gap on an opponent from 6 feet out in 5/100ths of a second. That is .05 of a second. That is 1/20th of a second. People who knew him said he was driven and smart, strategic and aggressive like no other. They said you would have to literally kill him to beat him because he would never quit..could never lose, like a dragon breathing fire. He beat everybody. He beat champion army boxers such as Daniel Lee...who said fighting Lee was like a bad dream...like you were moving in slow motion and couldn't even land one shot...like he was fighting a ghost. So, please don't be so obtuse. When every fighter who ever met the guy, such as the very top fighters of the day, say he was unbeatable and a freak of nature, gifted fighter, athlete, powerhouse, genius of strategy, focus and raging aggressiveness, explosive speed and intention, well there comes a point where you just listen and accept what they are saying. THEY would know... better than you...or me. Right? And you say he was just an actor? And was not a pro level fighter? Even Connor McGregor said in video interview, " If Bruce Lee were alive I have no doubt in my mind that he would have been world champion." Hear that? Think about that. Sugar Ray Leonard has said the same thing. These guys KNOW fighting. Trust them! And Bruce Lee KNEW fighting and was a fighter. A REAL fighter, in street fights...all his life. But you think because he was not in a pro MMA or martial arts competition, that he was not a top level fighter? OK. Think about this then: You are sitting in a living room with McGregor and three other top pro fighters when suddenly, a full grown lion strides into the room with no chain...nothing...and is stalking, pacing, growling. Now, you have, at that point in time, never seen that lion in a fight. Yet...you would just KNOW automatically, that lion would rip any fighter in that room, to shreds. Bruce Lee was like that. Get it now?

    • Ursella Levias. How do I know? It's on record at Lee's former high school that he won the boxing championships. There are several photos in black and white of Lee in the ring at those championshops with gloves on. Etc..etc. We know from his family and many others of his fights in Hong Kong not to mention his school expulsion records for fighting and that his parents sent him to the USA and why. We have MANY different people, witnesses, saying the exact same thing regarding fights Lee had here in the USA. The information doesn't contradict at all. That is saying something. There is video AND photo evidence of Lee training famous athletes and fighters such as Kareem Abdul Jabaar, competitive fighters and Karate Champions Mike Stone, Joe Lewis, Bob Wall, Judo Champion Hayward Nishioka, boxing champion Dan Lee and etc.,etc., etc. We have video interviews of many of those greats saying Lee could punch them in the face or kick them at will during sparring and that Lee was the fastest human they ever saw. Joe Lewis for one of many. Fighters have HUGE egos and never like to admit they lose in anything fight related. You say it's just " word of mouth" . Really, dumb dumb? Why would pro fighters admit to being nailed over and again by some little guy who was, ( in your words) just some actor? And we have video proof of Lee's physical attributes of freakish speed and power and explosiveness and foot work, closing the gap speed, hand speed, dexterity, flexibility etc., etc., etc., etc., etc....... ( How many one finger and thumb push ups, on ONE hand...going all the way down until your nose touches the floor...on each rep.....can YOU do son? I'll tell you the answer. The same amount all the great fighters, champions, athletes who were taught by and who sparred with Lee could do....NONE. And that's just one attribute ( strength ) of Lee's MANY that were beyond anyone else around. Wake up and stop denying the obvious.

And I still get saddened that he passed away too soon. He was a legend indeed, a one of a kind, a true master at martial arts. If anyone had the privilege to be in his presence what an honor that must've been. And, I cannot forget his son Brandon either. What a shame losing them both.

  • Anyone who's done serious research about bruce lee knows he was the greatest martial artist/fastest/most powerful pound for pound fighter of all time. No one has ever come close to the speed/brutal force and technique(not in the formal standard of one specific type of fighting) but in the overall no rules street fighting. No one comes close. No one will ever come close. I am sick of people saying oh it was just his movies that gave somewhat of a false perspective of his true skill and unbelievably unmatched technique. Bruce was as close as it came to a superhuman as it gets. Thank you. - JKD obsessed martial artist along with Wing Chung Jui Jitsu Wrestling and Muy Thai. Long live the immortal dragon.

Everything we need to become super human is already built inside ALL of us. Overcoming the ego and accepting reality as it is. Relentless in the pursuit of truth regardless of tradition. My respects to such mastery.

He was and is the most legit famous genius level grand master. His martial I.Q., even if he had lived, was so high and assuming the naysayers are correct he just would have adapted to knew models and destroyed these fools.

    • Draxvelo An MMA fight is technically not a real fight. There are weight classes, a referee, a cage! There are many eye witness accounts of him fighting or even other martial artists attesting to his genius martial I.Q. Brazilian Jiujitsu changed the fighting game because of the Grace’s nobody knew what they were doing in the beginning and they were masters of their craft, but in a dark ally with someone who may take your life trying to wrestle someone to the ground is nonsense. It’s useful if you’re taken to the ground but that is not that easy with someone who is skilled while standing.

    • Draxvelo What is superhuman! It’s still human, super human could qualify for many elite people throughout history. Take someone who can run a hundred mile marathon or the fastest or strongest person on the planet, we can call them outliers. For all intents and purposes, they qualify as superhuman, but I am not arguing that. Just that people try and dismiss him like he would have been average or less compared with top fighters today and I don’t agree with that.

    • While it is true that there is a recording of Bruce saying that he did not believe in God, I do not believe it to be true. I have studied the life of Bruce Lee since 1974. He got married in a Christian Church, and before that he went to Catholic school in Hong Kong. Here is what I know about Bruce;s private life: After he became super famous in Hong Kong after The Big Boss became a hit, the Chinese underground (mafia) tried to get him to give them a percentage of his earnings. Bruce refused to do that. He then was receiving death threats all the time. He then started carrying a 45 caliber gun. Think of this psychologically from Bruce's standpoint. He (Bruce) being looked at and challenged on a regular basis had to show the Chinese mob that he was not afraid of them or their threats. Therefore, it is my humble opinion, that Bruce thought that if he says that he does not believe in God, and the Chinese mob and others heard this, they would think twice about trying to attack him. Because someone that does not believe in God also obviously does not believe in the eternity of going to hell, and therefore. such a person would not care if they killed someone because they had no fear of their eternal soul going to hell. So, I personally believe that Bruce was just trying to psych out the mob by saying that he did not believe in God. Just my humble opinion.

    • ROCKMYER It's quite obvious to me that the wedding was for his wife. I didn't know he had guns though, that's interesting. His mother sending him to catholic school doesn't mean anything. Him learning karate doesn't mean he likes Japan. He always said be yourself, and don't change for anybody, so I doubt he would say he was godless merely to intimidate somebody. He did believe in "the spirit of the universe" and the spiritual force within you, but he didn't call it god, so make of it what you will. You are entitled to your opinion

      @Treaxvour@Treaxvour9 жыл бұрын
    • Trever Wiebenga It absolutely does mean something that he went to Catholic school. He never took Japanese karate. He did not say he was Godless and he did not say what he did to intimidate someone. He said what he did to psych them out. The universe was created by God. Not the other way around. He had his life and a family to protect. Bruce Lee was very smart and as such I believe that the recording of his voice saying that was just to fool gullible people.

      @rockmyer4108@rockmyer41089 жыл бұрын
    • +ROCKMYRE if all you are gonna say us "yes huh"you may as well not reply. It's 100% speculation on both of our parts. Psych out and intimidate is the same thing, as it is to influence someone's mind to protect yourself. I know several people who went to catholic school and are now completely atheist. He studied all religions, as do I. He formed his own opinions and spoke about "the spirit within all things," a taoistic idea, but didn't claim it to be god. The karate thing was an analogy. I couldn't think of a different country's martial art that would express it. But I know he hated Japan, so I used it. Peace and goodbye.

    • Going mad in martial arts is pure non sense, what you want is a calm cold rational thinking martial artist in combat. Does Jon Jones go mad, does GSP go mad, does Mike Tyson go mad, does Marcus Buchecha Almeida go mad, does Bas Rutten go mad ? no while thy are fighting and winning they are not mad but rational "killing " machines" ding what they trained. The martial arts wanna be goes mad, loses most what he learned under pressure and gets thrashed. The "i push a switch and I go mad and no one cn stop me" is one of the most mall ninja claims made on the internet by people who mostly never fought serious opponents.
