  • Fellow propmaker here, this is one of the best projects I've seen you do yet. You're really tempting me to finally get around to upping my CAD skills. I'm seeing a lot of advantages of doing a print over molding and casting a sculpt; especially for one-off props.

    @verdatum@verdatum7 жыл бұрын
    • And of course you could stop at an earlier point and mold and cast if you didn't want to go through printing and cleaning it up. Also give you chance to use a superior material.

      @AnimeWars2002@AnimeWars20027 жыл бұрын
    • verdatum If your a prop maker...... I'd like a Samus helmet master chief helmet soldier 76 gloves jacket and face mask Boba and mango fett helmet along with a pilot helmet from Titan fall.Whats the total cost?

      @lil_vault_boy4201@lil_vault_boy42017 жыл бұрын
    • I LOVE YOU Personally, I don't do sewing projects like the Soldier jacket; I'd outsource that. I have no idea who "Mango fett" is, so I'm leaving that out. Depending on the design, there's a very good chance you'll be blind while wearing the Titanfall helmet. Presuming you want Hollywood-film quality dead-on realism, I'd give a ballpark estimate of about $30k, not including licensing issues, of course.

      @verdatum@verdatum7 жыл бұрын
    • verdatum Lmao I put "mangofett" .Nah but it was a joke.But if I wear to try and get these I wouldn't go for dead on realism.Going for dead on realism would be too pricey and unneeded.Instead a simple version of it with out the colors would be fine enough as any body can get tape and spray paint the object.I find it kind of funny that you took this as a order.Although I do like the fact that you were very professional in terms of responding to my comment.

    • unsure of how the 3d printed material holds up, but i did the exact thing to weather my fiberglassed Boba Fett helmet. smacked it against some concrete block, rubbed charcoal all over it. Turned out real nice. The best way to get that "real weathered" look is to paint a silver and black as the base layer so when you chip off your actual top color, it has that very minute depth to it that makes it more realistic up close. I tried putting the silver and black on over top my top color and it looked exactly like i did that hahah

  • this turned out wonderfully! a few things you may want to consider in the future: when bonding with CA glue or 5 min. epoxy, you should really consider sanding away the paint and primer in the areas to be joined. you may find in a few years, that the visor may just fall off as it stands now. same thing applies for plexiglass. the areas to be bonded, should have been roughed up just a bit (though this is less of an issue, as it wasn't painted or primed). i'm sure another may have already mentioned this- but plexi is available in multiple shades of black, with varying degrees of opacity. next time you could save a bit of hassle with that window tint. the only other thing i can think of that's worth it's weight in gold for projects like this, is the red bondo spot putty, during the sanding/seaming/refining stages. just apply it right outta the tube (no hardener required). it dries rapidly and sands like a dream. perfect for smaller areas when mixing and using standard bondo would be so much more hassle. once again- great job and keep up the fantastic work!

  • a good trick with bondo is drop some of the puddy stuff down, then put a small bead of the activader through the middle. This will result in a almost perfect mixture every time. Hope this was helpful.

  • I saw a great trick for weathering from Frank Ippolito where you first lay down a silver coat and apply some toothpaste to it so that it looks like it is scratched. Than you go over the whole thing with your main color and when it is set you can just simply wipe the toothpaste away and you are left with awesome scratches.
