My old country had a problem with carnapping and so I was happy to move to Canada. But now it is much worse than my old country. I can't believe it. Canada is supposed to be safer and crimes solved and prevented. These past few years stealing cars has gotten worse, much much worse than I could have imagined. I was just talking to a young car salesman this afternoon. 2 of his friends got their cars stolen from them at gunpoint at 2 busy malls in Scarborough!

Here is a crazy idea, what about checking each container coming in to the port of Montreal since everyone one know that's the core issue of this problem....
I really think port of Montreal benefits from all this
yeah its amazing that the port of montreal is the ONLY point of transport these cars all get smuggled through - everyone knows this - and yet nothing is being done. this isn't only organized crime, its police and government corruption.
The number one failure is in the government, specifically the justice system. Manufacturers also deserve blame as well.
Get a stolen vehicle recovered and when you go to pick it up at the storage yard you find all kinds of damage. Cops can have it delivered to that storage yard and get a kick back from the storage fees. The vehicle gets damaged there and of course the yard will send you to a good buddy in the repair industry and then they don’t only get storage fees they get a kickback on the repairs. This can lead you to believe you have corrupt tow truck drivers, corrupt cops, corrupt storage yards and corrupt body shops.
I have my 14 years old Kia, that still works great, and nobody will steal it .

I'm glad I don't drive a luxury or high demand model. I live in the GTA, Peel Region, the hardest hit area in the country for vehicle thefts. My car is 10 years old and I park in a locked garage. Nobody is really taking responsibility to stop it. It's crazy that one port in Montreal is where most of these stolen cars are being shipped out but everyone's hands are tied to inspect containers. Meanwhile my premiums go up each year while I'm driving less after having taken early retirement.

Recently traded in a high theft rate Jeep SRT got fed up of living on high alert and looking over my shoulder. Especially while working odd schedules. I am very happy i got rid of it and no longer have this constant fear. Manufactures who produce easy to steal vehicles should be penalized. Consumers should simply stop buying. They have no incentive to increase security, once stolen they simply get to sell another unit.
Absolutely appalling to know how many people getting their vehicles stolen. There is no mention of the Flipper Zero, however.
I can't understand how they are getting away at the ports? Why not tighten the security there? Definitely insider job...
The problem with these modern subdivisions is not only is everyone on top of each other, the driveways are short and only in front of the homes. There are no long driveways that go to the back of your home, where your vehicles are bit safer, out of view and maybe even behind a gate. Give me an old house with a long driveway over this anytime.
How can they not catch a stolen vehicle being extorted out of the country? Do they not check the export paperwork? Do they not check what’s inside the container? I’m inclined to think that insiders at the port are part of these gangs. In depth investigations are necessary to break this network.
They can easily stop it but don't
You can have the best tracker they make for your vehicle and the police here will not go and get your vehicle for you even when you are close by one out of 500 get their vehicle back from the port when they know it is there from the vehicle tracking systems, there’s not enough manpower in the ports to search the containers the police sayI know from experience

Most people in big cities just come to Canada and took years to settle
I guess no one told them they supposed to leave the keys by the front door some cookies and milk will also be appreciated!

Container scanner exist.. The truck simply drive thru the scanner and since we're looking for vehicles it should be quick.. Container with veh in are stopped for paperwork. Why don't the port buy 2 ?
Toronto police have a fantastic idea 😂
Seems like all the cars robbed in Ontario and Quebec are going to the port of Montreal. How hard is it to increase security measures and validate every vehicle that is leaving the port on those giant ships? In any case, the thieves (when caught, which is rare) seem to get out within 2 years. In Japan, car thefts get you 10 years... Insurance companies don't help either, they just sit by and laugh as they raise your rates for your car getting stolen 🙆🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️. Seems the best solution is to only buy older, low quality cars that the thieves wouldn't be interested in.
The saddest thing about this is that people here on chat have provided effective solutions to the problem, but unfortunately falls on deaf government and law enforcement ears.

I know people that steal cars and the number 1 one way to steal brand new luxury cars is to just try the door handle. if it opens then the fob is in the car. you'd be suprised how many rich people leave their fobs in the car.
How is there no mention of PIN code technology like IGLA or Autowatch Ghost in this report? There are good options readily available on the market for consumers that virtually eliminate relay attacks and CAN bus injections and it’s irresponsible to not mention them. Shoddy reporting.
Easy solution.. pull the crucial ignition fuses from your vehicle. Threw them in my checked baggage on my last trip out of the country. Good luck hotwiring my car without them
Off topic this cameraman must be wanting to be a movie director, he even got cutaway shots of their feet walking
The insurance companies have already come up with a solution…gps trackers. They can be bought on Amazon for under $50 and requires a cell phone plan for well under $100 a year. With a tracker, police can find the car literally within a hour or two of it being reported stolen, possibly with the thief still driving it. It blows my mind why the police isn’t recommending this to car owners. Police can also encourage cell service providers to bring down the cost of the cell plan by offering it as an add-on to the customers’ existing plan. Please CBC, do the public a favour and talk to the police.
it depends on the type of trackers and thieves can throw it away very easily.
@@kareshi2k Only if they can find it. After all the tax money we paid, the least the government can do is a bit of research and recommend one that is hard to find to the citizens.
