Who's here in 2024 listening to this masterpiece?
My life story.
Yup
I be listening to the music.
Yup
At least a few times a year.
Here’s the deal. You either love Fleetwood Mac, or you’re wrong. It’s not that hard to comprehend.
Amennnnn
It feels good to be right. It sounds even better.
Yerp
Lol!
I like Fleetwood Mac.
Can we take a moment to appreciate how good Lynsay Buckingham is. He’s playing the song without a pick and sounding clean! Do people realise how hard that is?
Yes is the best
yes its the famous Mark Knopfler style...very difficult to master, the thumb plays the bass notes and the rest the melody...tough as fuck./
@@antoineagagiors4013 It's really common, just not heard so much in classic rock. The masters of this style go back a long way, especially to traditional blues. My own personal modern favourite was Kelly Joe Phelps (also a masterful fingerpicking lap slide player) but he left us recently too young. kzhead.info/sun/asWMc8mGZ2N4eXk/bejne.html
Yeah the way Lyndsay fingerpicks is a completely unique style. Which means that even guitarists who are experienced fingerpickers can't play his songs, without a _HELL_ of a lot of practice because he fingerpicks backwards, in a way. It's like how drummers say that it's incredibly hard to play like Ringo Starr did, and he's so highly respected amongst drummers because of that. It was partly because he played a left handed drum set while being right handed, so everything he played was "backwards". And he just has such an insanely gold sense of rhythm and groove that is very difficult to replicate. Also he used the drums as a songwriter, instead of as a drummer. You can recognise every single Beatles song just by listening to the drums, with everything else muted, because each song had a completely unique drum beat. Lyndsay Buckingham is the same way but for guitar. The way he played was completely unique, completely his own. And it's very difficult to learn how to fingerpick backwards, like he does, if you've only ever fingerpicked in the traditional styles. You kinda have to throw out everything you've learned already, and start from scratch. And even then it's very difficult, but then also having to _SING_ at the same time is next to impossible for some tracks without a great deal of practice. His live solo version of Big Love is a particularly good example. It's absolutely insane playing. Buckingham is one of the top 10 guitarists ever in any genre. He has never got the respect or recognition that he really deserves.
under rated guitarist. All his solos are memorable
Lindsey and Stevie singing AT each other gives me chills every single time. And I was born almost a decade after they recorded Rumours.
Watching it and it’s pretty clear there’s some hatred flying around even then

I don’t think people realize how difficult it is to fingerpick a guitar like that… absolutely insane. Lindsey Buckingham will forever remain one of the most underrated guitarists ever.

I don't think he's so underrated anymore...getting a lot of recognitions nowadays...and rightfully so
Not only that, but a pretty great singer too, and doing it all at once
Absolutely ... he's fantastic!!!
What a masterpiece whos with me on that ❤
Hell Yeah!!!
As a drummer, the look on Mick Fleetwood’s face when he’s playing is so real to me, it completely evokes the emotion that I feel too when I play this song
I put Mick up there at the very top of the list of best drummers, I mean no one can beat Neil Peart but Mick is right up there with him, IMHO
20 years ago I was at a Fleetwood Mac gig in Oberhausen/ Germany, in the front row. I was able to see, through a small gap, that there was a second drummer hidden under the stage, who played exactly the same drum parts (same movements) like Mick. Wow, that surprised me. Anyway, I love Fleetwood Mac and I love Mick Fleetwood.
common drummer face everywhere tbh
@@rockfilmNot really surprising there's a "support band" tbh, thickens up the sound. Saw them in 2015 it was the same.

Lindsey Buckingham... Severely underrated guitarist, plain and simple. He played some of the most creative licks I've ever heard.
Almost a crime how much his skill goes under the radar
@@l.christinejones8164 Underrated guitarist... because most don't know about his skills on the guitar. He's never in any top lists (of course Lukather isn't either and he's one of the finest guitarists to have picked up an ax).
@@l.christinejones8164 Uhm, I'm 44 years old, grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac, in addition to Lindsey's work with Stevie before... I'm far from just discovering Lindsey Buckingham. Look at the lists and where he ranks. For example, he was at 100 on RS top 100 guitarists of all time... And look who was put ahead of him. Look at where he ranks on other lists as well. He better than the bottom of a list, and he's overshadowed in some eyes by guitarists with lots of bells, whistles and frills rather than looking at his ability, innovation, rig and technique. In addition, people that know Fleetwood Mac don't think of Lindsey (only those true musical connoisseurs who truly know all about the band know Lindsey's contributions). When the average Joe thinks of guitarists, they think of Clapton, Hendrix, Van Halen, Slash, (or God forbid Page) etc because they've been in the limelight and given the label of 'great'. In the case of Jimi and Clapton, that's true, of course. Of course, RS is pure bullshit anyway. For example, Kurt Cobain?? Laughable. Cobain was a mediocre guitarist at best. And no mention of Vince Gill, Jerry Reed, or especially Roy Clark, who was a true guitar God. Cobain above Buckingham. Stephen Stills above Lindsey. Everyone on the list is above Lindsey, and this is ridiculous. That, my friend, is the meaning of underrated.
With no pick!
This is so true. When I learn his songs on guitar I'm like how did this guy figure this out himself. He is so creative.
One of the bands that sound great live... collective soul is another.
I'm convinced that Mick Fleetwood was the inspiration for Jim Henson's "Animal" drummer muppet!

Yes, but they are also watching each other's lips to synchronise their harmonies. As Lindsay also has to concentrate on his guitar, most of that responsibility falls on Stevie.
Just watching Stevie face her body AWAY from the crowd and sing directly to Lindsey.. chills. This whole show was filled with rekindled anger, hurt, and passion and I love it
She wrecked an astonishing band because she was having a temper tantrum, I don't love it. Yes, she's an incredible singer and writer, but so is Lindsey Buckingham (as well as an amazing musician). She should have been a grown up about it. Her body language just shouts, "POUTING CHILD" to me.

This song is the essence of Christine McVie in Fleetwood Mac after Nicks/Buckingham joined as a duo. She was the lush warmth in her vocals that beautifully completed Lindsey and Stevie’s sharp tones. She also wrote most of their hits and sneakily was the lead singer, a lot, behind the keyboards.. which also ain’t easy. Amazing musician.
Well said
Christine was amazing and penned some absolutely lovely songs...but she did not write "most" of their hits (solo, anyway - the whole band is credited on many of their songs).
Christine wasn't the lead singer. It has always been Stevie.
@@marialagerstrom6753 McVie was in the band singing long before Stevie and Lindsey even joined. Stevie and Lindsey came in and wrote and sang amazing songs no doubt, but McVie is right there with them. She didn't crave the spotlight as much, though. And as a keyboardist, she was busy on stage. McVie's big hits she wrote and sang include Little Lies, Hold me, Over My Head, Say You Love Me, You Make Loving Fun, Everywhere, and Don't Stop. She's no backup singer.

Christine around 33% and Lindsey 50%] Stevie's time as a lead singer grew on stage from 75-97, except for 87 when it decreased again, but she was never #1 in terms of songs sung as lead or co-lead. Even when it was just Lindsey and Stevie from 2003-2013 and it started out 50/50 he sang more because she always dropped songs from the set list and he didn't.

This is not just the work of one person, it's a collaboration of several different performers. Each one has a specific talent: singer, keyboards, percussionist, guitarist--and all are great performers individually. What makes this such a very great piece of work is that they have brought all of these different things together and made a powerful blend that carries emotion and strength. What a great group--and their music is still inspirational today.
@@ArtieFufkin546 Also true, but there is no "I" in "team"; without the others there would be no band - no matter how good one person might be at his art, or as an administrator, he could not have done this alone, so credit is supposed to be shared equally among them. Good bands have broken up many times over the years because of the fact that one member demanded the spotlight and refused to acknowledge the work of the other members. You cannot build something if you don't have the parts needed.
My apologies to you, sir--I was not trying to engage anyone in a debate; my only interest was to applaud the efforts of a well-recognized group of accomplished musicians, Buckingham included. I'm sure that there were problems associated with these people in their personal and private lives outside of the recording studio--they're human, and made any number of egregious mistakes--then again, everyone makes mistakes. For my part: they were great together. Yes, Buckingham was a self-taught genius on the guitar, with amazing musical talent and skill--but, it wasn't a contest to see who was the best among them, it was a joint effort to make music together, despite all of the complications--and I'm glad that they did what they did, those songs that they managed to perform together are great and nothing that anyone says about the band members can detract from that fact. I see no reason to dig into their peccadillos, it serves no real purpose--how about this: just enjoy the music--it's what I'm trying to do.@@ArtieFufkin546

Lindsay’s vocals are soaring in this rendition of chains. This is is just as good as their studio recording.
Every live performance I can't get over the differences between Stevie and Lindsey's energies- no matter how long it's been. Her anger is so cold, with her glances at him (aka death stare) and his palpable, kinetic rage- the jumping, the yelling. Makes it even better.
She's the one that left him though. And then he wrote "Go your own way" and made HER sing about how she was "packing up, shacking up" and she's never forgiven him for it, lol.

@ Emily Rose: Better be careful with the judgement on someone's glances, it's perfect a playground for your own preconceptions as long as you do not know the person more intimately in her/his usual gestions or facial expressions. Why not understand Stevie Nick's expression as "what a pity we couldn't do well together"? After all I've heard about their quarrels, my poit is: both Stevie and Lindsey are supersized personalities, just like many great musicians are, but they could have matched up to a real BIG LOVE, if they had not played in the same band. Unfortunately for themselves, but fortunately for the audience of "Rumours".

Only Mac could play a solo I could listen to, he has a unique one of a kind sound
They are incredible live too..best show I ever saw in 2015 in Atlanta, GA the last tour of the original members!
@@andreanewland453 Bet it was a great show.
All those years later and Stevie's gaze is burning a hole right through his heart!

I see it as someone looking in awe at someone who is a master of their craft. Buckingham is a legend

This Man singing... Amazing
Still get chills. Reminds me of the 90s Rollin in the mini van listening to this album with my mom and step dad. And I still blast it to this day. Timeless album and band.
