It is known that the world is experiencing water scarcity, but very interesting things have happened with water in the Moroccan Sahara desert. A water foundation in Germany has applied an amazing and practical technology for the production of water in the Sahara desert. This great technique will get you excited.

  • We did the same technique in many mountanious areas in Haraz, Yemen eight years ago and it worked. It was financed by the UN and a local water & sanitation NGO. Local farmers were shocked to see some warer created from the fog. We called it 'Fog Harvesting'.

    @alialghail5090@alialghail5090 Жыл бұрын
    • How is this working actually, the fog comes at night? From the sea or what? And is it a constant stream of water or only once in a while? And what is the optimal placement of these entrapment, from the video it looks like the placement is almost random? Of which I guess it is not?

      @doncarlodivargas5497@doncarlodivargas5497 Жыл бұрын
    • @@doncarlodivargas5497 Thansks for your question snd interest. For sure you need to target the streams of fog that usually comes from the sea directions. You also need to plant the harvesting nets on the peaks. Best time of good catch starts 2pm onwards and all night time. Of course one needs to seek help from experts and NGOs that have done some research in this field. UNDPs and GIZ offices should be happy to offer help.

I have never been to Chile or Peru but I knew 40 years ago that this technology was in place in the Atacama Desert for many communities at a fraction of the price. They used galvanised chicken wire which is far more effective at attracting and condensing the fog. As far as I am aware, these were all community efforts and no-one charged anyone for the water therefore no need for high-tech grossly expensive charging systems. The water was shared equitably among all the villagers. Also, the galvanised chicken wire is environmentally friendly .... it is steel and zinc ..... no vast amounts of plastic to cause trouble for the environment when it begins to disintegrate .... which it surely will.

  • I’ve seen numerous videos on this same topic and there is one aspect of this scheme that is never mentioned. Any water that is used to plant and sustain trees in the fog area’s actually has a multiplier affect. As the trees grow, they themselves become water harvesting devices. Helping to capture atmospheric water and introducing it to the local water cycle.

  • This is truly amazing technology. I was impressed by the ideas of the Germans in Korea. We pay tribute to the discovery of human benefit without destroying nature. Koreans are also making efforts to prevent China's fine dust from blowing sand onto the Korean Peninsula by building dams in Mongolia and planting plants and trees to prevent serious desertification. However, I heard that the Chinese are waging war by building nuclear tests, military weapons tests, and American aircraft carriers in the desert. I appreciate this eco-friendly and good idea.👍🎉

  • I live on the Monterey Peninsula along the Central Coast of California. This area gets an awful lot of fog throughout the year. It’s not quite as arid as Morocco but we do get very little rain here. Some spots on this peninsula get under 10” a yr. Like I say, not Morocco….but it’s terribly dry here. This whole area could benefit from this brilliant idea

    @scottmulholland1329@scottmulholland1329 Жыл бұрын
    • Ir seldom rains in the Monterey area, except during the rainy season (typically Nov-Mar),,, although we have been in drought for several years running. I used to go there for work, and remember years when we got thoroughly soaked, If one were to install these fog catchers, much care should be taken over where to install them. Unlike installations in Morocco, Yemen, or Peru, the Peninsula has rather lush vegetation: it has adapted to harvest water from the fog. If you extract too much, or in the wrong places: that can have a negative impact on the local ecology. The resident population plus tourists draw large amounts of water, and a few fog catchers are unlikely to make much of a difference, IMO.

      @philipb2134@philipb2134 Жыл бұрын
    • @@philipb2134 Each year we typically only get 2 or 3 of those storm fronts from Nov-March. Those 2 or 3 heavy rainfalls makeup at least 2/3 of the entire years rainfall. Some years its 75%-80% of the annual total. I think you are specifically picturing the towns of Carmel/Monterey. I should’ve have been more specific- the entire region from Watsonville down to Paso Robles and East to Los Banos is by nature very dry. The entire Coastal region from Watsonville to Cambria frequently gets fog because of the cold water coming up from the (1 mile deep) Monterey Shelf. If you go away from the tourist spots you will not only find many bare and barren stretches but plenty of places to ‘hide’ the nets. A few miles South and East of Monterey there is even large stretches of land owned by the Govt. This could easily be used. Think of the massive size of Ft Ord in particular. There are many locations across the SW of the US that are going to have to come up with long term water solutions. This technology wont solve all those problems but its a good start at addressing the problem locally. Its a better solution than what we currently have.

In India in Rajasthan desert state a traditional technology exists in which the field is ploughed and as soon as fog is absorbed it is levelled. This process is repeated several times and crops like Bengal Gram, Mustard and Pulses are grown with success, in the absence of irrigation facility. Great job.

Water taken from the air at this location will influence cultivation where water was previously not an issue. So you move the problem without solving it, worse, you spend energy to create a new one. But if it generates money somewhere... The earth is already showing you that it is not stable to do so. Growing where there is no water makes no sense. At least not at our technological level, and especially not civilizationally. (capitalist society system assumed without consequences)

Gracias y gracias ❤

Hopefully with this water gathering technique the areas that are lacking will become self sustainable and grow independent of other factions that are power hungry thieves.

  • I was always impressed with the possibilities of getting water from nature, not from the deep soil, but from the atmosphere. Whenever I traveled by plane I could see how enormous is the quantity of water available outside the plane, through the clouds and mist. Now, that techinique shows how to take advantage of that potential in a practical way. So, water to supply the high demand of the world population is not supposed to come from the deep soil, or from the salty sea water, but from above, which seems much more effective and cheaper than any other method for extracting the "precious liquid" from nature. I hope Brazilians learn that methodology so that the arid Norteast Brazil region can benefit from it.

  • I am amazed. I live in the desert SouthWest in Central Arizona. I have been trying to figure ways to collect water from the air where I live. We don't experience much fog where I live. I have tried using dehumidifier to extract water from the air, but to no avail. This system seems to be very beneficial in many parts of the world, and I thank God that he has allowed the technology to bring about life-giving water to so many in need.

    • i think you need to combine something with a roof of solar panels. the solar panels might keep a spot protected from the sun and during the night you might have the lowest temperature there which benefits water condensation. if you make such a construction near a road, you could also harvest enough electricity to have a charging station for EVs. storage of electricity in batteries is still expensive but getting cheaper. latest available are lfp batteries. in two years there will be sodium based batteries available that are 30% cheaper. but it makes sense to park the EV below a solar roof to take a break and charge up and drive when it is colder where you don't need aircon.
