Also when I watch stuff from before about 1998 the game seems so much slower and there seemed to be more space/time for attackers, I know they are more protected now but idk, just looks slower and sloppier. The simulation and diving is absolutely horrendous in today's game no question. As you say just my opinion tho.

I think him and Vidic might have been the last true defenders in terms of no nonsense defending. People mention Ramos and while I'd have him in my team, I see him as a great (not extraordinary) defender who can win matches with his attacking abilities esp in set pieces. Also when I watch stuff from before about 1998 the game seems so much slower and there seemed to be more space/time for attackers, I know they are more protected now but idk, just looks slower and sloppier. The simulation and diving is absolutely horrendous in today's game no question. As you say just my opinion tho.

I think him and Vidic might have been the last true defenders in terms of no nonsense defending. People mention Ramos and while I'd have him in my team, I see him as a great (not extraordinary) defender who can win matches with his attacking abilities esp in set pieces. Defensively, I've seen him make so many 'David Luiz' type errors in El Classicos......
