Absolutely solid, strong markings, hard tackles, leadership qualities, briliant duels abilities(both ground and aerial), put everything for their respective teams, but also intelligent of organizing the defence and even the teammates. We all miss players like them, players who really love their club over anything, are always loved by their fans, and are always respected by the rivals. Legends.

    • I'd also add that Ronald Araujo is making his way to becoming a similar-styled player. I'd agree with the Pique at the end of the video, no one can touch Puyol. Everything he did for club and country? He was one of a kind. Such goddamn class. Araujo is a monster. And he is becoming another of the best. And playing CB at Barca obviously begs the comparison, but Puyol's story, his triumphs in the most clutch moments...I remember that goal against Germany. I was in a bar in Malaga. The entire place was fucking dead silent and so tight for like 70 minutes. And that fucking goal and the goddamn roof was nearly blown off the place. Some stranger tackled me to the ground in joy as I sprinted to the wall, exploding out of my seat when he scored it. Goddamn. That goal was only matched in absolute MOMENT by Iniesta's in the final. Talk about a fucking million person explosion. I was in the center of Madrid. Strangers jumping on my back in the 117th minute or whatever that was. Jesus. That Spanish team was just...somthing else entirely. That whole generation. I was so lucky to be there, we were all so lucky to see that team play.

  • I am an avid Liverpool FC-fan since end 80's, but I must say that when thinking about a captain thats stood out to me in an utmost positive way, Puyol is actually the first captain that comes to my mind, even ahead of Steven Gerrard. Puyol's presence on the field (and off the pitch) and the way he spread his winning mentality to the rest of the players, especially those right next to him, was simply top notch. One other fact about him that made me applaud him even more, was how he didn't tolerate nonsense behaviour from his teammates. There are many examples on how he either pulls up a fake-injured teammate, "kicks his ass" and gets him to play on or when his teammates are arguing with the ref and being stupid, he just shoves them away and tells them to focus on the game. I loved seeing him do that. What a brilliant cap'n he was. A true legend, without a doubt.

    @Shookie@ShookieАй бұрын
    • Yup. I remember once someone threw a lighter at Pique. Pique picked it up and was complaining about it to the ref, who wasn't paying attention. Puyol took the lighter from Pique, threw it, and told Pique to defend as they were defending a corner.

  • Geez and here I thought the Anime Blue Lock was a fantasy towards how players are selected. As a non soccer fan I had no idea. Incredible journey truly an inspiration. Wow! More than an inspiration I just finished the video. What an incredible man. I'll admire Puyol now forever.

Don't worry about fans, the other team, distractions of any sort, ... just play your hardest and your best you can that game at that moment in time, the rest is up to God and will work itself out.. another great video buddy thanks for sharing!

  • Ufff this just gave me goosebumps at the end... Puyol was really unique, so hard on the outside but so soft on the inside, an example in the pitch, don't remember ever seeing him play dirty even though, if he did, he had all the capacities to be a defender to strike fear on his oponents... Amazing player and LOYAL, something very hard to come by nowadays.

  • He's my favourite player of all time. It's impressive, because I was only 10 at the time I saw him play, yet he imprinted his greatness so easily on my young mind that I still remember his playing. It was because of him that a young me chose number 5 in my own football team, and decided to play center back just like he did. One of the most underrated greats, what a soldier.

  • One of the most under-rated defender, he was a beast on the field but a gentle man as well the true definition of a leader never one for the fuss always rallying his team telling them to remain focus on the task.

  • Puyol was one of the greatest of all time. He was an insanely loyal character who gave his all for club and country, and never backed down from sacrificing his body to help them. He also was extremely friendly and would never criticize or punish anyone for hurting him. He was the greatest defender of all time both on and off the pitch, and nobody will ever be like him every again.
