I'm sure you guys all know Jeff and his MMA Shredded channel. And if so you've probably noted his pretty awesome head movement. Today I'm going to give you some tips so you can evade punches like him. I got inspired to make this episode after watching his recent video where random people in N.Y. try to punch him. Check that out if you haven't already: • Asking strangers in NY...

Who's pumped to see Jeff and I collab? You know there's going to be some sparring episodes 🤛😀
Yes🔥🔥
oh that would be great. You guys have such different styles, it will be interesting to see how you adapt to each other
@gabrielvarga Make the video a Sparring, that would be the best first video between you two, very excited
Please make it competitive! we need to see the showdown between high guard vs slipping
Used to train with Jeff at the same gym, he was training BJJ and teaching boxing and kickboxing. Your collab with him will be fire.
First of all, very awesome breakdown! I can't wait to collaborate with you, it will be an honour to get to move with a legend like you. It will definitely be a clash of styles as we are complete opposites! Man, I was already nervous about sparring you, and now that I found out you also studied me a bit, i'm even more nervous! I guess I wouldn't expect anything less from a professional like yourself. On another note, I would LOVE to see you do some street challenges. In fact, id be down to tag team with you :)
you brought the worst of social media into fighting. You are not only a provocateur, but a bad sparring partner with an ego and a mediocre career. Please don't comment here seeking more attention from an actual fighter.
We all will love to see that ❤❤❤
Why don't you have a checkmark
That would be awesome if y’all collab’d on the atreet
@@nokoh He is to cool for school!
Thumbs up for the Jeff Chan Gabriel Vargas collab we all need!
Yesss I was hoping they would eventually Collab or spar even, they basically have opposite styles
But they're but effective so it's cool to see
@@honestlee9921 truee that’d be so cool to watch
Jeff teaches Varga Jeff's double low kick and Varga teaches Varga 's left hook to Jeff. That would be amazing. Haha!
I remember when all these guys (Gabe, Shane Fazen, Icy Mike, etc.) got together and had like a mini-conference. I thought it would’ve been awesome if Jeff Chan was there too.
I can't wait to see you spar with Jeff, those rounds are gonna be so high level
They will be fun.
Hey man if you want to go get crazy out in public, I can help!
1. Lower hands for mobility 2. Moving back to cause chase 3. Cutting angles/circling 4. Closing the distance/stuffing 5. Deep/low head movement 6. Keeping the hands active
You forgot about not keeping your head stationary. Pay attention.
Lower hands for mobility wasn’t even one of the pointers or key lessons. That’s just head movement 101 and there’s nothing advanced about that. He explained that for beginners before breaking down the key features of complex head movement. It was so that beginners would understand the rest of the video but it wasn’t one of the 6 pointers. It’s: 1.) Moving back to cause chase 2.) Don’t keep your head stationary 3.) Cutting angles/circling 4.) Closing the distance/stuffing 5.) Deep, low head movement 6.) Keeping the hands active
He clearly said “the first tip is he backs up a lot” if you’re gonna try and be helpful then get ur facts straight.
His defence is realy nice. But the best part about that video is the smile on all the peoples faces!
A collab between Jeff Chan and yourself would be fantastic. Also, when you have managed to become more comfortable in and around people as you said I for one would love to see you do different challenges and that type of content but please do not push yourself to do that until you feel absolutely ready, anxiety is not fun! Won't stop tuning in for the general tips and advice though! Keep killing it!
I have studied his fighting style a bit. He will be tricky to spar but I have noticed some things. 1.) Watch out for the sweep. He will definitely try this on you since kickboxers tend to have a more up right linear stance. He will lunge his right hip forward and try to throw you off balance with his shoulder and arm. 2.) Watch the low kicks. Jeff is pretty sneaky at landing low kicks from evasive positions then stepping out of striking range. He will almost always try this off a lead hook. 3.) If you clinch, keep your guard up when you part from it. Jeff will sometimes try to land a sneaky high kick when separating from the clinch. 4.) He can punch pretty well while backing up so pressure him with that in mind. He will try to change angles on you a lot. Just like myself, Jeff struggles more against patient defensive people. Use your range, keep him in front of you and dont get flustured if you miss. I think you 2 will have a clinic of a sparring session.
Damn you told him everything dead on point. LOL. This is gonna be hard for me..
@@MMAShredded hey its about learning not winning right? Youd probably fuck me up at least 😂
How to beat him?
@@MMAShredded Maybe you can make a video studying Varga and formulating a game plan now. 😄
@@MMAShredded Oh dang! Sorry Jeff! I didnt think you would read the comments on other channels🤯 Both of you are some of my favorite martial arts youtubers, so I will give you 4 keys to victory too! 1:) Watch out for the lead body hook. Just as you are so good at sneaking in powerful low kicks, Gabriel is great at snaking in his body hook. Use this to counter up stairs. He also likes to throw fake body shots into real ones so be aware. 2:) Review the long guard. This is one of Gabriel`s favorite defensive tactics since it allows him to space you out without backing up too much. While it does grant him some defensive advantages, its not a perfect shell of protection. Strikes that follow an up and down line are effective here. teeps, karate snap kicks and....Hint hint.. uppercuts. He can change it to defend this but it leaves other gaps too. 3:) Spinning back fist. I dont think he will pull this in sparring but he did drop Lersilla with it so its definitely worth watching out for. I would definitely review his fight with Lerdsilla since both of your styles are so similar. 4:) Counter soon and counter often. Gabriel is a very momentum based fighter who loves to stay busy. He loves to engange when you dont want to and he doesnt give you too much free real estate unless you give him a reason too. You have lots of options here. Just dont get sucked into his pace. Ok. Hopefully my karma has zeroed out now. Have a great sparring session you 2! Cant wait to see it!
I'm so looking forward to the collab! Jeff has such an unorthodox style for kickboxing that I think it will be super interesting to see how Gabriel approaches it.
I think a leg kick challenge like you mentioned would be very entertaining for us as viewers, and more normal folks getting exposure to the reality of martial arts is always good.
Yes, the random punch me videos are gold. Would love to see it. Take icy mike with you, he'll do all the talking lol
How have we NOT seen Gabriel and Jeff spar yet? CANNOT WAIT
You and Jeff should collab. And Icy Mike be the referee and punchline joker 😂
Icy punchline Mike
Gonna happen. He asked Gabe to spar and here he is making a video about Jeff’s head movement now. Bet he’ll be on a sparring breakdown soon!
A collab or to be specific, a friendly sparring match between Gabriel and Jeff would be huge for me as someone who had been learning from both content creators. SOmehow pro fighters on KZhead are the most real! These two, Jeff and Gabriel, are both genuine! And I thank them for helping quality Martial arts knowledge.
whoaaa! wasn't expecting that, i really wanted to have cool moves like Jeff and now you're covering it. awesome!!
we love the way you give training tips like this, the fun stuff can wait :D
Awesome collab, we've been waiting.
Really happy to hear that Gabe and Jeff will finally be doing some rounds 👌 It’ll be like Ryu v Ken! 🥋
Hiroki Akimoto is pretty much Ryu.
@@discipleaj if Akimoto is Ryu, then Akiyama is *definitely* Evil Ryu 🙏
I love how you, Kevin Lee, Shane Faezen, Jeff Chan and Stephen the Wonderboy are all cross promoting each others fight brands and thereby giving all of of us a buffet of knowledge and a chance to hear all of our fight coach Avengers Assemble. Awesome.
I love these videos dude, your knowledge is relentless
I been waiting for that collab for like a year now! Please make it happen😭 P.S I hope to see more of a collab with Sensei Seth and Icy Mike too😂
Been waiting for this colab - the 2 only guys I learn tips that actually work in sparring
Very happy for this video I saw the last night and am in awe watching Jeff head movement
That will be the best sparring on KZhead. Two great martial artists, with different styles, and good manners. Just can't wait
I have been waiting for this collab for a long time. My 2 fav KZheadrs's that have helped me the most over the years. Shout out to both of you :)
This dude is just churning out videos nice job man (especially since there all bangers in there own right). God bless ya man.
Been watching both you and Jeff for a while appreciate all the knowledge you pass down in your vids have learned a lot. You guys definitely need to do some collab street challenges!
Hi Gabriel! Your videos inspired me lot, can't thank you enough! I joined MMA gym where now I practice boxing, Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu. I am feeling humble as well as confident. That I have never felt before.
Great breakdown. Your abbility do analyse and split out and describe the different moves is awesome. Please go on with your content. Best wishes from germany
Great tips I will try to implament them in my next sparring , Thanks Gabriel !
I wanna see you collab with Icy Mike, Seth, Jeff, Sweet T & Wonderboy! :D I love how all the martial arts KZheadrs are collabing! It sounds fun! Would be nice if we can also drag Chewjitsu into the mix!
Keeping your head in motion instead of keeping it stationary and then reacting is a great tip. But what about the chances of your head going right into the direction of the punch by accident since your head is moving everywhere which would be a collision and possibly a KO?
Part of the risk of keeping a low guard and relying on head movement. I prefer it though without risk theres no reward. Low hands + head movement/footwork = AMAZING counter opportunities.
Been waiting for this day
The collab we’ve all been waiting for
hey there, Gabriel Varga, great videos and your content is awesome I really enjoy your videos!
Been loving your content lately man. Jeff is one of the OG Fighter KZheadrs for me when I started training. Would love to see ya’ll collaborate. Thanks for all the great videos!
You’re a beast! Would love to see you put yourself out there, the world would benefit
Love to see you get out there. Here's the little push! :)
Great video. Will try those tips in next sparring also.
Gabriel and Jeff's channels are among my current favorites in the space. Videos from Gabriel outside of the studio space would be great.
Thanks, I watched this right after Jeff Chan's video: great stuff, as always. PS: Plz do an 'outdoor' video!!! 🙌🙌
Watching Jeff's video yesterday then yours today made for a great 1-2 combination! For doing public videos I'm happy with whatever you decide.
I can't wait to use this in sparring this weekend.
Thanks, this was a great video!
thanks, that was a helpful explanation
Hey Gabriel, can you do a video on how to watch and dissect your own fights or sparring footage in order to improve? Love your videos and appreciate you taking the time to share your wisdom so often!
I could see a video where you go out with pads and get people to throw a few punches, and then see how you can improve their punching in 5 minutes
I love that these channels are all friends and Gabriel can just make a video piggybacking on Jeff’s idea and vice versa. That idea of having people low kick you until somebody taps out sounds epic.
Best KZhead coach ever
Happy B Day Gabriel!
Amazing in any way :). Because I' m already interested in this tutorial, even better if comes from you and also I was looking for with you both and find this 🤠👊. In the other hand, I was wondering (and searching) a sparring between you two and you mention it. This is just great 👊🔥
This collab is gonna be crazy.
What a great video. Thanke
Love the way my fav martial art youtubers r colabbing w/ each other. Great content from you, hurt n jeff...Nice!
Solid tips
The fact I know Jeff must have given you the okay to make this. Now I'm getting excited. Real fighters with real personality, doing a collab? And btw Gabe I watched a lot of your fights, and I noticed a couple announcers making comment on how chill you are in real life but so viscous in the ring
That’s the perfect point, when you can transition from head movement to high guard seamlessly
Thanks a bunch. I have always been interested in MA since 14 yrs old. I have achieved teaching status in JKD and WC. I have been in enough scraps to know what I have used to win the day is more on par with your fight tips. Which I train now exclusively in my older yrs as I incorporate with my natural fighting abilities. I feel it is more natural for me than traditional MA. Thanks!
😂😂😂😂
I just switched back to muay thai from boxing and have noticed the difficulty in slipping with a high guard. I'm also guilty of trying to slip from stationary. These were very helpful tips! Thanks man!
Get out there, bro!
A suggestion: Do a quick wrap up summary of the lesson at the end of the video. Thank you for the tips!
OMG, now I really want to see Gabriel Varga vs Jeff Chan on youtube. Kick-boxing match, unlimited rounds, battle to the death.
Not only am I dying to see some friendly sparring with you two, but I think a video about gaurd styles and head movement for smaller gloves with both of you would be amazing! Especially because Jeff has expressed a preference for pretty much every gaurd except the high gaurd for mma but you manage to make it work for you in smaller gloves
Def agree, we need an mma gloves guard video with both of them!
Personally the free low kick idea sounded great but you know what it would be kewl to see you out there just spicin things up on da street.
Gotta get in on the self defense championship season 2 Gabriel.
both of u are crisp as hell
We all want this collab
I see what your saying at the end, about the approach either not your "channel" or something you'll do! It's tricky; However, I really think that that *spectacle* is the element that your videos lack, as far as attracting audience goes! Your clarity, forethought and knowledge, charisma-- they're on point. The opening music is just right-- there's just spectacle. Do I want to see if their shins or your thigh gives out first! Abso-- freakin'--lutely!! Then I want to know, *if it's real* and if so, how do I achieve it as well... (and really it's *we* not me) When it comes to the next part, the explanation-- you extremely good! Demonstrate and explain! You don't need to dilute your brand to do it! Keep exploring this, and trust your instincts!
CANADIAN FIGHTERS REPRESENT !!! Can't wait for the collab video boys !
Thanks for your tips on head movement! I for one would love to see you do something fun like going out in public to get people to punch and kick you. Maybe even get people to try to hit you with sticks or pool noodles... That'll be fun!
Tyson's peek a boo allowed him to keep hands up and still have fast head movement using torso and legs.
Happy birthday Gabriel Vargas!!. I know today is your birthday, not to brag about it but I bed that very few people of your fans remember your birthday like I do. Wish you the best in your life including health and prosperity, you are a great role model in what you do.
You gotta go spar with Jeff! I would also really like a vid of you going out on the street and seeing how random amateurs do against your defense or evasion. That would be awesome! 😎🤙🏾
Can you do a video on how you would incorporate head movement with Muay Thai footwork?
Here's a bit of a push to go outside and make that video where people kick your leg to see who gives up first - that would be gold!
It'd be great to see you out in the public doing drills you reckon would make a good video and educate us on combat defence and attack. But what would be even better is if you collaborate with the creators you mentioned (like Jeff, IcyMike, etc.) and make some videos with them out in public or in their fight gyms to also help to educate us and demo some cool stuff!
Really wanna see you on self defence championship
I would love to see collab with Jeff Chan
Team up with Icy Mike. He’ll help you break the ice!
I noticed that alot of guys with good head movement often slip multiple punche to the same side. For example they slip a jab to the right ,but instead of slipping left for the straight they duck it on the same side.
Would love to see some out of the box content. If you feel out of your element get Mike to wingman for you like he did for Jeff. 😄
Jeff’s a mma guy. And he loves his double leg. So it make sense for him to dip
U have video how to fight hands down opponent ❤ This may work in this case? Fighting elusive guy from hands down?
it would be cool if you made a video like this with drills to work on the different parts of this, but great video nonetheless
Can you make a video how to hit or deal with people defending like Jeff? Thanks!
I first saw this on FightSmartTrav years ago where he allowed random people to try and hit him and so I started practicing and got quite good at it. Although it looks like fighters have entered The Matrix, a lot of the head movements are anticipatory as you stay in constant twitchy motion -- it's harder to hit a moving target. That if you slip to the left, then you know that the next punch is going to be directed there so you then bob or weave to the right even before you see the punch coming and usually people will become so fixated on hitting you that they will start chasing your head movement and be half a step behind like how people chase a fly trying to grab it out of the air. The head movement has to have some randomness to it. If you just tick-tock your head side to side in a fixed pattern then it's easier for the opponent to pick up on the head movement pattern and hit you.
Hey gabriel make a video about Joe rogan kicks
Gabriel: you can't use head movement with your hands up Mike Tyson: hold my beer
Ahhh. But he kept his hands by his chin. I mean up UP. Like kickboxers.
There is a huge difference the way fighters who use peekaboo slip and normal fighters who slip
The cool thing is that every time jeff crouch and "shoulder bump" his opponent that's a takedown opportunity if it was allowed. And we know jeff loves his double legs.
Thanks, these all make sense but there's something fundamental missing in how to read the punches or know the patterns ahead of the punches coming and have certain? movements ready to go by instinct. Can you say a little about this. I try this at sparring and just seem to move in to the punches 😂 there is a clip of Fury doing this on the ropes and he's not reacting to each punch he somehow knows what is coming before it comes ?
Honestly, I'd be more interested in seeing you break down Street Beefs with MM than do Street Challenges. Would be cool to see you break down fights
1. Backwards movement 2. Always be in motion 3. Move a lot with your legs (side to side) 4. Dive deep with your head 5. Be very close to your opponent sometimes
Hey gabriel make a video about joe rogan kicks
it would be very fun to see you do these sorts of videos. Not necessarily in the tiktok / clickbaitey style, but rather, with your own way of doing things. You should feel comfortable when doing these videos, they should be fun for you to do first and foremost!
Interesting. One of my instructors criticized me for constantly moving my head just for the sake of moving it. I think he meant that I still didn't understand the concepts so I would just be running into shots that were common punch patterns or that I was being predictable since I wasn't varying my pattern. Yet he still didn't suggest I should constantly be moving my head around.
Can you make video about Regian Eersel
thank you for doing this ... jeff wants us to pay for basic information like this lol
That shoulder bump is a shaolin move (prolly way more ancient in actuality) except when they do it they use 110% force and make enemy slam the back of their head on the ground. And sometimes they scoop an ankle with their hand or both. Or pull one of the enemies wrists down as they do a shoulder bump causing them to fly away upside down.
I would love to see you and jeff spar
