A quick pull with my neighbor. IIRC, a 2006 or 2008 Chevy Duramax, lifted, stacked, weighted and tuned vs. my 2006 VW Touareg V10 TDI with K&N drop in air filters. Both in 4low, VW had all diffs(front, rear, center) locked and at lowest possible ride height (factory air suspension). When the Chevy hopped he broke all the tie rods on the independent front suspension, both wheels were turned inwards and thus putting it back to RWD and it lost. Nothing any of us expected. 550 fp torque
The VW has nowhere near the amount of power or torque as the duramax, it all comes down to the fact that when VW makes a "4x4" they have front and rear locking/limited slip differentials. The chevy is a "4x4" but the rear diff doesn't lock like the VWs and the front is open. So you have 4 wheels getting power in the VW and at most only 3 wheels getting power in the chevy, but more than likely one front and one rear only.

This is really a lesson in AWD vs 2WD
The truck is in 4 low so both are putting power to all 4 wheels. The VW has a much more sophisticated (and expensive) design than a solid axle ladder frame truck so no surprise it won.
@@Teesquared00 pardon my ignorance but isn't awd better than 4wd in these situations always? no transfer case to get in-between the driveline
@@tydatv2674Four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are basically the same thing and both use a transfer case. The small difference between the two is that all-wheel drive is a little more sophisticated and allows the vehicle to be in two-wheel drive unless there is wheel slippage and then the front wheels are engaged. So all-wheel drive is kind of like on demand 4-wheel drive. True four-wheel drive means power is going to all the wheels, all the time. You don't want to use four-wheel drive when driving on the road because it makes the steering dangerous.
awd is just 4wd with a center diff.
@@manitoba-op4jxThat's not true in all cases. It depends on the vehicle. My vehicle has both all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive and uses a transfer case, but it does not have a center differential.
