She's showing her daughter to be gentle with animals at a young age which will be a habit as she ages.)

  • My daughter LOVES cats. Her first word after mama and dada was “meow” 😂❤ I adopted our rescue kitty from my local humane society when I was 5 months pregnant. I saw her photo online and immediately fell in love with her striking green eyes. She’s a calico. I went to the shelter to meet her and she was all over me basically climbing me like a tree and rubbing all over me. She spent her first week at home aggressively loving on us as if to say thank you for rescuing me. She knew I was pregnant and would rest her head on my belly and knead on it. She and my daughter love each other ❤❤❤

  • Julie, my childhood cat was incredibly smart, one night my dad and mom had gone to the movies and they saw this cat, she followed them to their house. We live in an apartment complex and there are hundred of people living here. She followed my parents to their doorstep. My mom and dad put some water and a tuna can outside the door and went to bed. When they woke up to go to work she was sleeping on the doormat. They went to work, came back and she was still there. They took her in, she had pneumonia and they brought her to the vet. When she was healed they have her the opportunity to leave if she wanted. She never left the house again, even after all the opportunities she had. She realized my mom was pregnant before her, she made cookies on her belly throughout the whole pregnancy. When I was born she took guard of my crib and hissed at anyone she didn't know who got too close. When my mom breastfed she would sit on her lap and try to hold me up with her back. Every time someone cried she stood in front of them and watched. When I was a child and I cried she licked away my tears and purred. Every time. She died when I was 8, at the ripe old age of 22. She was the goodest of kitties. I miss her dearly everyday.

I was 6 years old and would push him at round in my pink plastic shopping cart, he would sit at my tea-time table, and crash my brothers poker games in his room. I remember she was pulling his fur really hard one day and smacking his head and I went over and was telling my daughter "no no sweetie we do nice to the kitty" trying to get her to stop roughing him 😆 the cat actually used his paw to swat at me and pushed me away from her then proceeds to lick the back of her head like "is okay baby". Heard this from the old timers way back in the 80's when I was a kid, and it seemed to make sense so I always remembered the warning. The cat didn't mean it, it was just enjoying the warm....but human infant's are so ridiculously fragile! Did you human newborns are so defenceless they can't even shiver to warm themselves! By animal kingdom standards, thats just pathetic lol.

      @kurdaitcha3509@kurdaitcha3509 Жыл бұрын
    • Warmest heating pad in the house, who gets a constant supply of milk. ✨😁 Luna IS very special. So don't think I'm trying to take away from that. But cats will often seek out babies, because they have a constant supply of milk, & smell like milk all the time. And because they are soft & helpless, & fresh, & a constant source of warmth. Also because they have protective instincts & will want to keep the baby warm, & guard them. Mother cats will put up with their babies attacking their bodies & face. They will either get up, leave, or discipline them, when they go too far. So a cat that tolerates an infant's grabby hands , & seek them out, is definitely claiming that child as their own to protect, much like some dogs do right off the bat with a new baby. Dogs are pack animals. If it was a dog we'd say that your family is it's pack. And stray or street cats, though they have to be on their guard, will often seek out cat colonies. So your family is her cat colony. My baby sister is 8 years younger than me. And we always had neutered indoor/outdoor male Tabby cats. (The orange striped kind). Never more than one. If that one died, we'd seek out another one to raise. They were always very loyal. And the one we had while my baby sister was a baby/toddler, would allow her to pick him up by his middle, with all four paws just dangling, & lug him around like that ALL THE TIME. He never reacted retaliatory. Which to me is remarkable him being a male. But they will claim you & protect you, if they feel loved.

I also heard about the cat smothering babies in the 80's, but I don't believe it, I mean it could have happened once or twice but I don't believe it was ever actually a thing. Babies can't shiver per-say but they do regulate their temperature in other ways. I believe it's just down to warmth and comfort, my cats are always looking for the coziest spot in the house and I used to find my Siamese in my babies crib amongst the stuffed animals..

If an African Wildcat stumbles upon an abandoned human baby in the grasslands, do you think it would "nuture" it or attack it? Human beings try place human feelings on pets all the time. The first is ignored and tolerated, the second is punished by a little nip or swat. Those furry little fellows have so much social intelligence. Every child should grow up with a pet, it turns them into better adults.

    • Agreed. I used to foster my cousins, back when their mother wasn’t fit to take care of them, and I had three cats. Biggles and Eden would watch from a distance but never interacted with the kiddos. Eden was a bit of a sass-hole and Biggles(her daughter) took after her. My third cat was adopted after we found her abandoned, fixed and declawed but by no means defenseless. Sweetest lil fat-cat I ever had the pleasure of keeping company. She loved my little cousins(3-5) even when they got a lil wild! The youngest has autism like me, and he doesn’t know his own strength so sometimes he would pull her fur a bit too hard and she would just meow at him to let him know “hey, too rough buddy” 😊

    • @CatSara - It's not impossible. There are triggers other than size; facial proportions, for example (although that probably wouldn't apply in this case since cats are nearsighted), and scent. The baby smells like milk and makes small mewling sounds. It is also largely immobile. It regularly soils itself and must be cleaned by another individual. If the cat licks/grooms the baby in addition to all the above, the behavior very well may be maternal.

It's confusing to the cat that sometimes it's allowed and other times it's a bad thing. It should be eitwhe she's allowed or not allowed. Consistency with animals is as important as it is with children. Tbh I don't know why they just don't shut the door to the babies nursery then the kitty wouldn't have to be confused. She'd know that when the doors shut she's not allowed in there. That's alot easier to learn than she's allowed when they're there and not allows when they're not. She used to practice by looking at the cat and trying to make the K sound, until the word came out clearly. It was not only till later when I switched careers and took a phonetics class when I realized that the K sound is usually developed much later, typically around 4 years old. 🤣 But she was determined! She is now 21 yrs old and her best buddy is another cat we picked off the street 8 years ago.

      @desireeloveros1055@desireeloveros1055 Жыл бұрын
    • @@desireeloveros1055 They did! A small bit of domestication cats managed to do on themselves is that the frequencies of their meows (which are kitten speak) and that of human baby noises are ridiculously similar on average! Normally this mainly affects us humans, but in this case it worked the opposite way too, possibly. But there is also a lot of evidence that cats recognize human babies as our "kittens". In the wild, domesticated cats form colonies where childcare is a shared task, so a lot of cats are also a bit more patient and gentle with the children of their families and might even protect them.

    • Can confirm the allergen part. Had the same cat for eighteen years and she spent her first night sleeping on my small, six-year-old feet. We have been pet free since two years after that. I have always had the occasional contact dermatitis but now if it is is dander season and I spend too much time at a friend's place with a pet or a dog licks anywhere on my face, I sucuum to allergies within minutes. My mom isn't ready for another cat and I am a bit stuck, counting down the seconds I have mooching some furry cuddle time at friends' places before I hit the point of no return. When my brother was born he had a slight dog allergy that we didn’t know about, we thought it was just a little rash from him scratching himself by accident until we realized it was only red after he cuddled with the puppies. Though since then he’s built immunity to the dogs, and it’s like he never had an allergy. He only reacts when he cramps himself into their crates because that’s where dander is more concentrated. Only a stuffy nose.

You also don't freak out over having the kitty near the baby. So many " helicopter parents" would soil themselves letting the cat be so close. Ignorance is a scary thing. That cat was my whole childhood and it was one of the only things that would’ve made me smile after an exhausting/bad day at school and I still remember that it’s favorite plushie was an old llama plushie that my cousin used to own and it would sleep with that all the time so it was basically her favorite thing. My grandmother found her in an shelter near her apartment (I think, it could be some where else) and one of its legs were paralyzed so that’s probably why it was abandoned, it was around a few weeks old.
