Nope it's the other way around. The new place is actually more American because it pushes away from traditional Italian restaurants. The traditional restaurants recipes are from Italians who migrated to America.

Calamari tentacles are better than the rings. They're crispier for one thing, but I also think the texture of the tentacle flesh is more interesting, with slightly more flavor.
