Being allegedly guilty of something means that proof has yet to be produced or found formally guilty by law. So the delivery guy allegedly spitting on the food simply means that his action was not justified by any wrong doing on the customer side. Not to be confused with legitimately. For example if someone kills someone, the news can't call it murder until that's been decided in court, but they can say "killed" because that's a statement of fact, that's not accusing someone of a crime because killing someone isn't always illegal, but murder is by definition. This guy didn't allegedly spit on the food, he did spit on the food, there's video evidence of it, however if he was being accused of a crime e.g. criminal damage, the news would have to say he allegedly caused criminal damage by spitting on the food. Basically they can say someone did an act, but can't say they committed a crime until the crime itself has been proven in court.

It's not a bonus if you work on tips. In the US, we tip food delivery people, and its usually about 15-20%. Although that amount may depend on the community.

I really appreciate living in a country where service sector companies are legally obliged to pay their employees enough so they don't have to depend on customers' tips and you tip only when you want to, usually when the service was extraordinary
That's the real problem here. People are right that he shouldn't have spat on the food, and the man shouldn't perform work involving food, but he is in no way obliged to be grateful for the small tip. He shouldn't have to rely on tips in the first place. Tipping ideally should be 100% optional, but for those who live in a society where workers do depend on tips, it's important to tip decently.
@@zoyadulzura7490 that sounds more like charity rather than tipping. The fact that the working situation has been like this for ages shouldn't make me feel forced to give tips. I know it's rough when you put it like that, sadly the workers have to live with this situation (even though with a strike or two on national level they would probably help themselves a bit), but the problem should be eradicated with reforms not fed with tips. I mean, Reservoir Dogs came out 30 years ago and the issue is still exactly the same. The dialog at the bar could have been shot yesterday and you wouldn't have known. I myself live in a country where tips are almost not even a thing because people get paid to do their job, maybe not as much as they should, but as professionals they accept it. It's obviously a problem of society, which considers normal something that a country like the US, given its reputation, should have never had in the first place
@fp9623 believe it or not, waiters/waitresses preferred to be payed in tips rather than hourly wage. The only people suffering for tips are people who work at Ubereats/Doordash. Which is supposed to be a side job and not a full time one
As someone from the UK, it blows my mind that this is even a thing. A TIP is a bonus -- not something guaranteed. If it was supposed to be guaranteed, add it to the price of the meal. In the UK, we even add the tax onto every single purchasable item. so there is never any surprise in how much is paid/received. The USA is bizarre in many ways, but the tax/tips system is something I can't wrap my head around.

well to be fair, you shouldn't order delivery if you can't afford to tip the appropriate amount which is at least 15% of the total. Not that I'm defending what this guy did, that is not cool at all. Delivery drivers depend on the tips though so go get your own food if you can't afford to tip and you won't have to worry about what happens to your food in transit.

Tipping is merit based which is exactly how food service jobs should work, if you do a bad job you don't get a tip, while doing a good job you get a tip, and the amount is based on customer satisfaction. Legally being forced to pay employees whether they do a good job or not, is what creates sick unhealthy societies where lack of incentive to achieve and improve disappear from people's minds. This is exactly why Europeans are a sheep population with no will power or critical thinking skills. And you heard this from a European who lives in the EU.

Most food delivery orders don't include a tip. I can't believe someone is splitting on a $3.00 tip when all you're doing is delivering the food. A 10% tip for simple delivery is a very reasonable tip.

You're thinking only from the perspective of the delivery guy. He didn't expend his time or fuel out of good will. That's literally his job, he is being paid for his time and fuel to make the delivery. On the flip side, you don't know what's the situation of the people ordering the food. It could be a financially struggling family which finally had the chance to save money to order a tiny meal after a month of hard work. Calling them scumbags for not tipping is verbal banditry.
I work delivery for dominos, I agree! Also take into account distance, quantity of food, weather, and time of day/night. Plus attitude of driver. A short drive, 30 bucks, I would be happy!

Not even your boss can force you to do a dash. It's not always easy but if you do some simple math you can easily figure out what would and wouldn't be a worthwhile trip.

Why do you even tip at all in US? The employer should be responsible for paying the employee, not a customer that alr paid fixed price for the service or a product. If the service or product is super good, like truly exceptional I get it, but delivering food as a delivery guy is literally minimum of work to do, and Im saying that as someone who was delivery driver for summer as a teenager many times. Sure its nice to get a tip for some super complex delivery or exceptionally fast one if the client needed it, but its nice to get it, not mandatory at all and I would nevet even think for acting bad for not getting one

Actually I’m with you - - as some background music sounds awful, is too loud, and/or isn’t syncing with what’s on the video. Occasionally I’ve just NOT watched a video presentation because of those issues.

So many people think that "10% is not a good tip because these people live on tips and percentage has nothing to do with it because these delivery drivers are independent contractors." It's the kind of response you get from people who don't understand responsibility. The driver took the job with all the quirks and catches. That makes them responsible, especially considering that they have the right to pass up anything that is too far away to be profitable. The fault is entirely on the driver as the tip isn't mandatory at all. That's how tips work. If people don't like it they should have negotiated a better wage or found another form of employment.

The wear and tear it does on your vehicle does even come close to breaking even or making any kind of money. I should know. I have an adult daughter who did it with her now ex-boyfriend, and it has cost her so much money. She had a nice bought and paid for car that they tore up and traded it in for a small SUV that she is way upside-down on. Plus, I have to put my own money fixing her car. I’m glad the praying mantis successfully fought off the cardinal. 🙂 I know the cardinal has to eat, but that particular little bug really wanted to live.

Praying mantises are known for eating birds way bigger than them alive, they catch them with their claws and just start eating.. Not sure if a cardinal is one of the birds they can catch and eat though..

Those drivers need to realize we are already paying nearly double the price of the food just to even have it brought to them. So to have extra for a tip now a days is rare

His actions are definitely unwarranted and looney but to justify not tipping someone well just because you chose to get food delivered to you (which is always expensive) is also delusional. If you cannot afford to tip on top of the delivery and DD fees, then you cannot afford to get the food. That is why I just go pick up my food if I am eating outside of home.

If the company is offering delivery they have to be paying their drivers as they are employees for said company. It is not mandatory for me to pay someone extra for doing their job. It is the company's jobs to pay their employees. Just because someone doesn't see their wages as fair doesn't give them the right to demand money from the customer.

It was evident it was water, but you should always dodge a pool of water like that (if it's not dangerous for the other drivers) because you can't see what's underneath, there might actually be a hole under it and break your car.
