There is a great debate within the Cane Corso community, rustic or boxer, which is the best vision for the breed moving forward.
Angela Johnson of Confidential Kennels is an advocate for keeping the Cane Corso, Old School. In her program she breeds specifically to the origianal International Cane Corso Federation breed Standard. Thsi means that she highly praisese the Belmonte and Scandofino bloodlines.

  • I asked the breeder, "Are boxers implemented in your line?" and she & her friends literally attacked me. Calling me passive aggressive & childish for one simple question. A reputable breeder would of answered the question and educate as to why. I have asked other Cane Corso breeders the exact same question and regardless if the answer was yes or no the response was cordial and mature.

    • It's not boxer . They're cross bred with great Danes to up their size . A real CC male only reaches up to 110lbs . Now with Dane blood they're getting these monsters up to almost 200 lbs .

      @ronniejaye1@ronniejaye1 Жыл бұрын
    • The AKC and other official groups are 110lbs male and 90 for females .

  • Fifteen years ago while walking around my barn, I was charged by a wild bore. I would of been ripped apart if not for my 13 year old male Cane Corso Axel who intercepted the bores charge and stopped him just a foot from hitting me. Axel which was sired by Santino de Arlaric stopped that bore so quick it's back end whipped around and took my legs out from under me. I hit the ground flat on my face, with a huge fight right on top of me. Axel pulled the wild bore off of me, and commenced to shredding him the pieces. I remember how the bore tried to cut Axel with his 3 inch tusks, but my old grey Cane Corso over powered the 350 pound bore like he had nothing to offer in the fight. I then pulled my pistol and killed the bore, but another few minutes and Axel would of did it for me. Axel was an OLD SCHOOL CANE CORSO! I agree with this video. I never liked the Boxer types, I would of been shredded if Axel was that type. It makes it easier to breed and show with the Boxer types, but this should not be what is important. Having the toughest dog in the world, with an attitude that lets it take a protective initiative at the blink of an eye is what is important, and needs to be bred back into the breed as a hole.

    • ConfidentialKennels Id like to see what some Cane Corso's look like with boxer in them. I need to see the difference before making an informed decision. Like most dog breeds, they are probably made up of different breeds of dog to begin with. It's good to improve a breed by adding something "sometimes." I will probably agree with not adding Boxer, just want to see pictures. Hopefully one of these videos will show a picture of some. Zeke, thanks

    • If you listened to what she said, you'd know it wasn't the AKC but factions in Italy and Europe that introduced the Boxer and wanted the shorter muzzle. She was also saying that PERHAPS without knowing it AKC judges were encouraging the Boxer version because they had safer temperaments. What she doesn't understand is that temperament and looks don't correlate in that exact fashion.

  • Boxers and bullmastiff were not just bred into the CC to get softer dogs, that could be shown but also to get a lot more dogs. From 300 pups a year in Italy to 5000 pups a year, you can imagine that not only 'farm dogs' were used. And not just Boxers and Bullmastiff but also Presa, Dogue de Bordeaux, Rottweiler, Dobermann, Neapolitan Mastiff, Great Dane, Maremma and even Malinois in some lines

I hope that her Keen eye and choices help preserve a quality standard of the Cane Corso and help avoid the detrimental deviations that have been so invasive and corruptive in so many of the AKC performance breeds. Confidential Kennels is truly top notch quality standard and aesthetic. I really like Justice and Shock, and look forward to seeing more of these wonderful dogs. @ConfidentialKennels@ConfidentialKennels6 жыл бұрын
    • Joe GarP I don't think the Boxer has too long a muzzle but they are athletic with great trim, muscled form. Maybe if also introduced African Boerboel. It takes many generations to have the breed conform to the same look. When Louis Doberman started the breed over 100 years ago in Germany, the Foundation dogs looked scraggly and wire haired. It took generations to blend together the Rottweiler, Weimereiner, Coonhound and Greyhound. Even in 1 litter with the same parents, some siblings can pull some other genes from their ancestors and look different, just like human siblings.

  • Two big points: 1) please name the farmer or kennel where Mr Sottile "found the litter he brought over here" in 1988. 2) i visited 14 ICCF kennels and backyard breeders yards in the mid 90s, from Philly to NYC to NY to Upstate NY. I attended 6 ARBA shows in central NJ. The great majority of Corsos I saw had parallel axes, narrow muzzles. I saw alot of chestnut brindle (commonly seen now in Rottie Neo PIt bandogs and rarely seen in most Corsos kemnels any more). A Iccf grand champ had show winning offspring with Rottweiler coloration. I cant think one ICCF sanctioned kennel that boasted working titles in their litters. Italians refused to send breeding stock over here until Ed Hodas, Mike Ertaskarian, and Shauna from Castleguard were allowed over in 2000 or so. They partnerednwith SACCI, got one of the giants of the breed reconstruction to come over here to judge AND got some Italian stock here, and the breed here changed to what you now see in shows and in protection trials today. I've owned 4 Corsos since 1997. I hate revisionist history I read these days. If you wanna see what those Italians were pining for, look up photos of Neos in 1960s through 1980s. T

So I stepped in and offerd him a home so my biggest problem is not pedigree but working with him and training him 😊

  • I had a Cane Corso pup dumped on me a few months ago... what a wonderful dog... She is 6 months old now.. not quite as big as the ones in this video.... I do have one question for other CC owners... Crop or no Crop... I love the floppy ears. I live in the north east so heat and humidity is not an issue.... Obviously I'm not planning on showing her.. Just a family dog. What are every ones thoughts on cropping? Is it medically necessary? I cant think of why, but I rarely see a CC with uncropped ears....

  • My understanding is that the boxer was introduced into the cane Corso line to help save the breed from extinction and to widen the gene pool, which is obviously important when working with a limited number of any animal. This is reason that ISIS was developed within the zoological communities. As an experienced dog owner for over 50 years I have found that half breed dogs also tend to pick up the best of both breeds. The bullmastiff is a prime example.

  • Super dogs Angela !!! I am looking for a Family protection dog which is alert imposing and strong. Basically staying indoors throughout the day and guard outside at nights. I have a great dane female as of now and she is a super well behaved and surprisingly frearless dog (considering current era Danes are extremely shy). As my next dog confused between Cane Corso, Presa canerio, Boreboel, Bully Kutta. Can you please suggest a better one of these potentially. I stay in India and the climate is a bit on hotter side. Great work once again and all the best..... Regards, Ketan

  • This breed was not intended to be a show dog. To be pranced around a circus show ring. This breed has all the attributes of an all purpose working dog. This breed once could herd livestock be used as a livestock guardian hunt and take down wild boar fearlessly protect the home and give its life for his family while being docile enough to play with kids. WOW and why show them because now your breeding for looks looks looks. A real Cane Da Presa could never be in a show ring. It would be disqualified 😄

    • I wish they never put a boxer in there I’ve breed boxers and love them but that’s a breed all their own and it just down played the cane corps it’s meant to the beast that it is not saying it’s not a good dog it’s probably one of the best but I don’t want a softened version

      @meganstanford5315@meganstanford5315 Жыл бұрын
  • It is a great breed. The bred is great with kids. Very descerning. She knows her stuff and her dogs are probably 3-4k. This bred patrols its territory like no other. Anybody who does not live in the house is the enemy and will be treated as such. But a good cane can discern a non threat visitor in the house. Under extreme supervison tho.
