I've always been fascinated by volcanos. The sheer power and ferocity is intriguing. Mother nature is awesome and fearsome at the same time.

Could and would be way more 'appreciatable' if people didn't live too close to it. Not sure if this is the case but it is most of the times. Unlike tornadoes, they stay in one place, although the power can be unexpectable.
@@DarkForceUbz Depends, there is a potential supervolcano in Yellowstone Park, USA. If that one erupts, it will probably cause massive damage to a really, really big area. But these thingies can also sit there for ten thousand years and do nothing. When it comes to geology and so on, 1000 years is really nothing much.

I was just a kid when Mount Saint Helen's erupted in Washington and it completely blew its top and the entire north side of itself. Our family lives in Oregon and the wind currents that day, carried all the smoke and ash our way and completely covered our city. The sky turned dark and what I thought was snow flakes falling from the sky was actually ashes. When I went outside the next day, everything was covered in a really fine ash and it turned everything to a dull grey color. It was just awful, we could only go outside with a mask or face covering on to protect us from breathing in the ash, so no kids were allowed outside to play and it took FOREVER for all that ash to finally wash away and it really messed up our cars air filters, peoples AC units outside their homes, our local crops/gardens and all the outdoor pets were affected. So I can't even imagine living so close in proximity to something as destructive as a volcano!.... Sending healthy & healing energy to all those affected & suffering from this devastating disaster!... ✌🏼❤🕊

Wow thx for this personal detailed insight into one of the most popular eruptions in volcanology. The part where you said it took FOREVER to clean up the ash and return to normalcy makes me thing about this pandemic. When will thing return to normalcy? It's like the pandemic was one big disaster juste like these volcanic eruptions, but much worse. I really do hope for the best for everyone in this world.
I have ash from that eruption that was on Grandpas car while he was in Packwood during the initial eruption. We didn't know he was in the area until he called and said he was ok.. =)~
There's a prediction that Mt Rainier will be much worse than St Helens for the simple difference that there's so many more people living at the base of Mt Rainier. I live in Northern Washington and I'm sure even we will feel the effects of the eruption, God forbid it happening any time soon.
Volcanic eruptions make the soil more fertile. That makes it great farmland - until the next eruption.
Yep, look at colima in mexico. The volcano has made the land incredibly fertile and amazing to grow any kind of crop with little to no trouble.

Humbling to see how nature can destroy a city just like that, and there isn't really anything you can do about it.
And should be a reminder to people why it’s important to have services, resources and knowledge to be prepared for any natural disaster. In cali earthquakes, florida gets hurricanes and so forth. We live on a planet we not only are misinformed but even when informed choose to ignore for convenience and/or money.

They don’t speak of any reported deaths in this disaster so far... hopefully the lava moves slowly enough to make sure everyone in the area can evacuate safely. I can’t imagine what a horrible way do die that would be

As the 89-year-old woman said, this is the third similar eruption on La Palma in her lifetime: 1949, 1971, and now 2021. Just like Hawaii Island, eruptions will keep happening but people will still live in the danger areas.
The cycle of destruction and rebirth makes for fertile soil.. makes it tough to not have people settle there. Part of the human condition, I suppose.
This weekend should be very interesting as the sun becomes very active in the next 3-5 days..

And where are they supposed to live? You just saw residents asking where were they going to go. And with decades in between each eruption, I can understand why they wouldn’t leave.
Do you suggest they live somewhere else? It’s like people who live in hurricane areas, tornado areas, or earthquake and tsunami zones. It is what it is. You do what you have to do. My family is Hawaiian. It is home.
This is an ongoing disaster. It must be so difficult to surrender your life and culture to a raging volcano. My heart goes out to the beautiful people of La Palma. Estoy rezando para ustedes.

I have always been fascinated by volcanos, mother nature does some spectacular things at times. I feel bad for those displaced and lost everything though. You take a chance living somewhere where there are forces of nature such as this.

Muchísimos Canarios emigraron a Puerto Rico, Cuba y Venezuela. Hay muchísimas similitudes en el dialecto y la cultura. Canarias es legalmente Europa, Geográficamente África y culturalmente tiene muchas sintonías con América

They are beautiful islands Las Canarias, but most carry this risk, if you live there. We often holiday in the North of Tenerife and you can see Mount Teide from the street. Kind of a massive reminder. I'm truly sorry for everyone that lost their homes, its the cost of living on an absolutely beautiful place I guess.

bro I was a lukewarm Christian, but I saw how much worse the destruction sigms of the world get, just like the Bible prophesised like 4000-2000 years ago, you best believe I get back into praying. I see the vulcano from my kitchen window.. I'm just 3km away and my family's house is 1km away. It has been a life changing experience for us all. A true nightmare... 😞
What makes anyone stay and live there if it erupts so often?
@@ciarajeanr 50 years may seem not many years, but only our elders remember the last eruption which was very short and pretty small in comparison. It didn't caused almost any destruction so it was a touristic atraccion almost. The eruptions before that happened when the island was poorly populated and with a very rural lifestyle so the destruction wasn't that terrible and since it happened so many years ago, we don't have videos or many data about it. What I'm trying to say, is that modern life made the valley heavily populated without really knowing that this could happen at this level. This vulcano appeared in the worst place of them all, destroying with the most violence we have known to date. But you should see how much love our people have for this little island. It's our home and everyone is our neighbor. So we all want to put our efforts in repairing our little paradise🙏🏻💕

For the life of me I cannot understand people that leave mascots behind. I can understand a farmer that just does not have enough room to carry all their livestock. But I cannot fathom leaving someone like a dog or a cat (and yes, I mean it when I said /someone/). Like I would prioritize them over furniture, electronics; anything. Also, I am not religious but I respect mother nature as much as possible. Volcanoes are a force to be reckoned with, and unfortunately, sometimes we forget about that, and build on areas that are natural lava flows for them. I wish the best for the people of La Palma. From Chile with the best of wishes and hoping you all manage to rebuild soon.

It's nothing like that... People from the Canary Islands know that they live in volcanoes, not near a volcano, that's something people who are not from here mistake. They say "don't live near a volcano", then the Canary Islands would be deserted because they are volcanoes, every part is made from a volcanic eruption. And please don't say, "then don't live there"... We do not choose where we are born, and obviously not every family has the money to move and transport everything they have to another part of the country. Also the older kids know it's a natural phenomenon, but for 9 year old or something like that, it isn't something they can understand perfectly, they just know the lava from the volcano took away their home. Luckily, the eruption will be officially finished by tomorrow, as it stopped a few days ago and the activity has decrease.

The comment worrying about houses containing gasoline or toxic chemicals was almost as silly as hoping the Virgin would save them. "Oh no!" "There's a can of Monsanto, and barrel of gasoline in that house!"
Not silly. You saw how close to the lava flow workers were getting. The one worker was standing right in front of a house when it collapsed. If there had been something explosive in there it could have taken out that worker and others close enough. And gases mixing in the air and being blown towards evacuation areas could make the air much more toxic. You never know if your neighbor has a freaking basement full of gasoline barrels or propane. Some people keep dangerous chemicals in their homes and garages.
My heart dropped when I see those poor animals cz they don't understand anything and they lost their families.

What pisses me off the most is all the poor animals left behind.
They live on an island and most boats/temporary housing won’t allow animals. But animals have great instincts and search for higher land. I survived a natural disaster as a child (hurricane) I remember that all the horses ran to the opposite side of the island.

what stupifies me is that we, as A Human Race, not only settled next to Active Volcanoes, but then Re-Settle multiple times in the shadoes of valcanoes that have or are erupting, like Hawaii or Pompei, and then we also actively seek to get closer to dangerous volcanoes or geologically active areas like San Fran Cisco, yellowston etc.... Why... I just.. I dont understand humanity....

There is nowhere safe on this planet. Any location is susceptible to disaster. Settling elsewhere won't change much, it'll only be another set of disasters to face.
