Brock Purdy: Running QB for the 49ers in 2024?

Brock just needs to run off instinct and not by design in my opinion.

This will be the first full offseason as a starter for Purdy. He gets OTA’s, training camp and preseason games as a starter. More work with the boys and better playbook understanding. I’m excited to see how the boys play this year. Go 9ers!

49er Franchise saw a lot of talent as a QB in Brock Purdy. So grateful Brock was called to play with our Bang Bang Niner Gang!!

One of the funniest comments on that Pat McAfee interview was, superman wears Prudy pajamas. Lol. That was a hilarious interview. Props to Pat for being a Purdy backer. And same to you David for putting out the stats that show how good Purdy was over his two seasons.

What I love about him most is, he doesn't run unless it's the last option! Head up and eyes down field at all times until he has to run

A designed run here or there to keep the defense guessing is ideal.

Anyone that watched the Purdy vs Oklahoma (Jalen Hurts) 2019 shootout, saw nearly everything he’s been doing in the NFL, especially the running ability. Watch JT O’Sullivan analysis video if you want to see a breakdown of his throws. It really shows who has never watched Purdy’s college film when they act like he wasn’t doing a lot of the same in college.

I think there should be a few plays where if he gets a certain look, he can run and dash for a first down or something like that but nothing crazy

Heard he’s got that elite mindset like Tom Brady did. he’s very cerebral. He will win more than one Super Bowl in this league. He’s definitely top five QB already.

The offensive line has already gotten better. The chemistry has had a full season together now. Whether an offensive lineman is replaced or not, they will be better this season. Especially the way Kyle challenged them at the end of the year... especially in the ravens game.

@David Lombardi, I have been saying this since after the week 6 bi week. Baltimore game proved it, Kyle would not cave from his pass attack. Not even after 4 interceptions, "injured" QB, multiple injuries to the O line. Next year is going to be special and eye-opening. The 49ers are going to be a multiple threat team with their attack strategy. Switch it up anytime in the game, for any reason. I am excited.

I'd like to see a couple designed misdirection plays where Purdy keeps the ball. Purdy keeping the ball even once a game will give defenses one more thing to think about.

When addressing the amount of run vs pass plays in the playoffs you do not address that we were way behind Green bay and Detroit which necessitated more pass plays.

improve the arm strength for long passes. he threw 60 yards but needs for it to be faster. Arm strength also equates to further improved control. He is increasing his endurance which trims down the 40 time.

Can’t disagree more, you don’t want designed QB runs for the most part. You want a top 5 O line and a RB and TE, solid D. You get a running QB and they tend to get injured a lot, I give your Robert Griffin as prime example. Montana almost never ran out of the pocket at the most maybe a couple times a game. You want the QB protected and in the pocket not taking hits.

I agree with you 100% David, the Pat McAfee show is a great platform for any football player in the NFL and Pat stands tall amongst the rest (save this one) but McAfee has ESPN and more followers than everyone else.

Purdy should only be running the ball when he absolutely needs to, like to win a game or in the playoffs. QBs who run the ball too much get injured and miss games. It seems to me that Purdy is always looking to throw the ball, his eyes are always downfield.

Superbowl title is likely in 24. They are adding on to a good team that will become a great team. A little good fortune is all that's needed.

Purdy is too small to be running on zone reads. He will get injured and there’s nothing behind him. Jesus, we’re trying to win a Super Bowl! If we trade Aiuk then we need to fill that hole first with Brian Thomas Jr. With that next pick fill it with the hole created by Armstead at DT. In the second take a Center like Frazier of Sedrick Van Pran, in the fourth take an OT.

I don't think designed runs are a good idea. He's not that big and he doesn't have great speed, even though he's quick. It just takes one wrong hit to wreck a season. With the 49ers weapons, I don't think they need it.

Purdy can move, but he’s not Cam. I don’t want him getting killed just because he can run. Run where you can and where you can protect yourself but please God don’t run him by design.

I hope the fuck not. Get a fucking O-line that extends his time with the ball. I hope Shanahan does not do what he did in the Superbowl and outsmart himself. Keep it fucking simple, Run the ball when it is working against teams that are bad at defending the run, and keep your QB upright and sack-free with a great O-line. Trying to turn Purdy into Lamar of Josh Allen is a recipe for disaster. Running QB's have a short shelf life.

In the SB, Chiefs had a spy on Purdy. That takes a defender away just by chance of running. If idiot Wilks would have done that on Mahommes that could have helped on his runs since Mahommes runs in EVERY BIG GAME!

Hell to the no. What he did last year was enough to keep defences honest, to the point where Spagnuolo had a spy on him in the Superbowl. He’s going to need to look for that in his reads, as I expect other teams will do the same, which makes it 10 on 10. Let him be opportunistic, but he’s not Cam Newton, thankfully.

I really like a QB who has quick movement from pocket he doesn't have to run down field all the time , I like that better than what Colin did was only good in open field seems like a lot of the time he would use yardage unless it was a designed run
