Razer Huntsman V2 TKL - In-Depth Review
** Update **
Razer has provided me with the following details regarding the Gen 2 Optical Linear Switches:
Actuation distance: 1.2mm
Actuation force: 45g
Bottom out force: 48g (Yep, it's confirmed by Razer - my apologies for the skepticism!)
Lastly, these switches are in a "silent" style. I'm surprised because although they are of the "silent" style and feature a rubber bumper, they do not feel as mushy as Cherry Silent Reds (aka Cherry Pinks).

The Keyboard acoustics section of this review is the best I have ever seen and I will be happy to sub and watch all your reviews if you keep it up!
Thank you so much LuminaryGames! More to come in due time, for sure :)
You deserve so many more subs bro ,you content is amazing 🤩,hope you have a great day
Thank you so much!
I love TKL keyboards! Love that patch mat! And that shirt too!
And you know I love you! Haha
@@avgsgn Haha love you too hehe
if you put orings on huntsman te, its a less rattly but slightly livelier hollow version of the v2. plus its way cheaper
The stabilizers in the shift/space bar actually are very nice. It keeps the switches from hitting hard on the release of the key. If you put 2 o-rings on the keys you make it nearly silent. Keys without the stabilizer will still hit on the release.
I personally stay away from adding o-rings because it results in the keycaps sitting higher, as well as a very mushy bottom-out.
Best review of this keyboard
Thank you! That means a lot to me!
Is it just me or the lighting features on the prev gen huntsman is much brighter? also are the keys have a smooth texture like the huntsman elite? the new pbt keys looks a little more textured on the v2 models.
I’ve never experienced any of the previous huntsman keyboards, but from what I hear based on other content creators, it’s the same as on the huntsman TE. To me, they’re textured, not smooth.
Nice video!
I watched a video about the key switch stabs how u can tighten it by just unclipping it and pinch both ends till it touch each other and reattach it to the switch. I tried it on my clicky huntsman mini and the rattle of the switches stabs are gone. It is a bit harder to press but thts good for me since less accidental presses. Oh and lubing the purple switch sounds nice. Its more deep “clack” than pingy high pitch clack. 😃
Interesting but doesn't that cause the wires to be constantly rubbing against the sides of the switch stem?
@@avgsgn mine doesn't rub. Feel free to give it a try and if u don't like it, you can always loosen it up again
@@kreamypie Actually, I've removed all the wires from every single switch. From what I'm experiencing so far, it makes no difference to the performance of the switches. Stay tuned for a video about that, I suppose? Haha!
Thank you Razer! Love those fatty keyboards. Thanks for sharing.
So I'm still confused, the video said 1.2 actuation point, then you said an update from razer says it's 1mm but to check in description where it says 1.2 :D is the description accurate?
Heheheh this is the sort of reaction I was hoping to get by doing that! Cherry Speed Silvers are listed at 1.2mm and they actuate much higher in my personal comparison, as compared to the Razer Gen 2 Optical Reds. Razer states that their Gen 2 reds actuate at 1.2mm Gateron Pro Silvers are listed at 1.1mm Kailh Speed silvers are listed at 1.2mm So... how true are these at all? However the bottom line is that I really don't have a proper / actual / correct way to test this out, all I have is what I've done in my video, as flawed as it may be. Thanks for this comment, though!!
@@avgsgn cant you change the actuation point via razer synapse?
Dang, you're doing keyboard reviews now? Still remember back in the day when it was spinners and nerf haha
LOL keyboard content is few and far between!
@@avgsgn few and far between is still infinitely more than zero haha. Also don't know if you heard, but razer opened a razerstore location in Singapore - might make for an interesting video or a fun trip for you!
Hello, have you tried it playing games? Did they fix the issue being too sensitive, 1.2mm in my opinion is still too short of the distance.
I mentioned that I don’t play games much at all - but from my normal daily usage (which is quite a lot), I’ve not experienced any accidental keypresses.
@@avgsgn Than its not a "in depth review". Its a Gaming Keyboard mainly. And the MK1 Tournament edition was too sensitive. The actuation Point was ok maybe, but the actuation force was WAY to low. If you have a low actuation Point, you need a higher actuation force of 45+gf. With the TE you cant play and you cant type. Its was tooooo speedy. K100 RGb and Apex pro with lowest actuation have the same probs. 1.5mm and 45gf is minimum for smooth use. And they dont fixed the keycap shinetrough and the poor RGB. Razer ads fat RGB, but it looks really poor compared to Steelseries, Roccat or Corsair. In the V2 Analog there is the cheating Led Stripe. And People buy this board for nice RGB also. If you want that, get a ducky without......cheaper and better.
This keyboard suddenly goes into demo mode qnd becomes unresponsive. Need help
Can we change the keycaps to hyperx or Steelseries doubleshot pbt pudding keycaps ?
Yes you can! They’re all keycaps that are meant to work with cherry mx stem styled switches.
@@avgsgn Thanks !!
Does the wrist rest magnet to the keyboard?
Nope, it doesn’t!
Im concerned about the way these switches became kind of "silent" by putting foam into them, do they feel any mushy compared to a cherry mx red?, you didn't point out anything about that in the video and that's the only thing really pulling me back from buying it
It definitely feels mushier than cherry reds since these are silent switches. If you don’t like the feeling of silent switches, don’t get this variant of the keyboard. Hope that helps!
Oh, that sucks. Seems im gonna have to go for either the v1 tkl version or just take a k70 pro :/@@avgsgn
@@HaTTaRequiem Why not check out their Blackwidow V4? I've heard nothing but good things about it!
Blackwidow v4 doesnt sound convincing, but the new v4 75% that comes completely lubed does 👀 @@avgsgn
is there a purple switch version?
Apparently yes but it seems like Razer sent out the gen 2 switches to reviewers.
Which is better huntsman tkl or the blackwidow chroma v2 tkl?
I never handled the Blackwidow Chroma V2 so I won’t be able to offer any insight on that, sorry!
@@avgsgn its okay
The rattling is not audible during regular use, I bought this exact version (linear optical red) and there is no rattling for me and I even use it on a retractable surface so I feel it’s disingenuous to shake the keyboard in such a way and state the keyboard rattles when it doesn’t with regular use. I’m glad I didn’t see your review before buying this because it would’ve deterred me away from buying my favorite keyboard. P.S. I was watching more videos on the keyboard to see if I can find some insights/tricks/tips/recommendations for that inevitable “why are you watching reviews if you bought it already” comment
Hahah that’s totally valid input - Also, I’m like you where I still watch reviews of items I’ve already purchased. Anyway, I mainly type on a wooden desk (that isn’t very thick, just about 1 inch) and I am quite a heavy typer, so whenever I hit the return, backspace or escape key I naturally induce a slight shake into any keyboard I use. And that’s precisely when I hear the rattle.
WHAAAAT, YOU'RE INTO KEEBS TOO?!
psyksg?
Yes it’s me! Hello!
@@avgsgn hi, how’ve you been?
Switches sound mushy and scratchy on the huntsman v2
I have it and they dont
@@Lexweh but it does in video…
It could also be my non-professional audio setup!
@@avgsgn nah i tried in store. Its between mushy and not
@@stig585 In the end, the mushiness is because these are actually silent red switches.
Jujutsu kaizen
One of the best. Hands down.
I had this keyboard and after I tried another razer from a friend I can't understand how brainwashed razer consumers are. You can nearly take every noname keyboard and it feels like razer is cheaper than them. its so fucking cheap manufactured... Especially if you don't know whats under the hood. And seriously who cares if I can faster press 50times a character with my membran keyboard than with the razer one? Maybe there are also good products from razer (few Mouses) but every other brand has this 1-2 good products too for 4x less the price. It's ok to buy one of these good razer products but to be a razer fan is completely laughable.
At the end of the day, it’s the power of branding. On the flip side of the coin, it goes to show that these companies - in this case, Razer - are doing things right since they are able to lock in and keep a hold of these die-hard fans. It’s a good thing that there are consumers who are advocates for certain brands - and it’s also a good thing that there are people such as yourself, whom do not fall under the same category. We need all sorts of different characters and opinions to make the world go round. I agree with you that Razer does actually have good products - the latest one that I personally deem as “good” is the Blackwidow V4, including its price point. That said, I also agree with you that most of Razers products are what I would deem as “overpriced”.
WHAAAAT, YOU'RE INTO KEEBS TOO?!
AHHHHHHHH!
Oh right I saw your name at the durgod fusion group! WHAAAA haahahaha
Hahahahaha that was a long time ago!
