"Hey i'm Plouffe and I own a AW3423DW"
Lol well you can't draw on the Alienware monitor
Well the Wacom Cintiq Pro 17 costs 2700€.
@@MrDiarukia Yeah, seriously, it's made to compete with the Cintiq, not the iPad. It works on WINDOWS as well. They shouldn't have pushed the touchscreen for mac narrative.
Over 1000€. You get great graphic tablets for far less money. That's crazy.
As Maria said, it's not a graphic tablet, it doesn't have the precision of a graphic tablet.
@@asddsa-dy4ne so it is worse than a graphic tablet, more expensive as a graphic tablet. What is on the plus side?
Like what, a kamvas?
This is giving me boat-car feels, where it's like having a combination of a shitty boat and a shitty car. This is a shitty monitor and a shitty graphics tablet combined.
$799? I just nabbed a refurbished UPERFECT 16-inch portable monitor for less than $79
man said bang for your buck when it costs so much to be a second screen with bad speakers and no onboard system like a tablet.
I guess he wanted to make his $ By giving a BS review so That companies will keep sending him their products This is the most Untruthful Review that I've heard about The EXPRESSO.
yup. u can get a Samsung Galaxy Tab S9+ at this price
Totally agree. This is definitely NOT a tablet. It's a portable touchscreen monitor. This would never replace a tablet.
Yep. An iPad with remote desktop for your mac (or even just using Sidecar) gets you WAY WAY WAY more for your money.
@@sumesh-kumar Yea, and you can also buy a mountain bike. Whats your point? A tablet has nothing to do with this device lmao.
$900 for just a 17 inch screen? This does cost an arm and a leg.
Yeah, it'll just cost a kidney and a liver instead.
With 900 dollars you can get a Lenovo Yoga with a touchscreen that has all the capabilities this screen does, but with the whole computer inside
Really bad take considering you can get an iPad Pro and much more portability since you don’t have to carry a whole friggin’ computer…
It's a sponsor video, guys gotta make a living. But yeah, this thing will age like milk.
@@joonglegamer9898 I’m not against it, mind you. Some time ago Linus said they’d call these kind of videos “Showcases”presenting the features they had to offer. This looks more like a recommendation. I’m torn about the title because it doesn’t replace a tablet.
You didn't understand the concept 😂
It's sponsored video so what can u do? But when u think about it, an iPad can make sense but it has comprises to not be a laptop replacement for creatives... yet.
11:38 damage control lol
1,2k$ CAD before taxes, sound like a arm or leg price🤷♂
I am quite disappointed that Maria was visibly not impressed and she even mentioned that it would be better to just have an iPad instead of the computer+display Kombo (at 11:26) and my man clearly steered the conversation into the opposite of what she meant. It's honestly very disingenuous and untrustworthy. It's also glanced over that Maria clearly said the tracking for the pen isn't very good, which immediately disqualifies this product for artists, as the tracking of the latest tablets is pretty accurate. Also 800 bucks is not "doesn't cost you an arm and a leg", when you can buy a tablet in the same price range and have an independent OS on it. I hope you guys take these words as constructive and refrain from such obvious biased product placement where you do not really give an honest opinion.
I agree. It feels like an Unbox Therapy video.
I agree that this video felt much more biased even for a sponseored one. For instance in the colour discussion he says the colour is not bad, when deltaE i over what they themselves call suitable for professional work. This shouldve been pointed out, since this clearly targets the professional artist market.
Yeah, he dodged that one lol
yeah this is one of their worst reviews
Agreed. LTT has proven again that they're not trustworthy. I guess only their techlinked and gamelinked channels are worth watching. For anything else, I'd steer clear of them. What a waste of some of the talented people working at LMG.
I think you guys were supposed to release this video on April 1st...
This video makes even less sense when you consider that the iPad can also be used as a monitor for your Mac with touch pencil support
"color accuracy is not bad" dE above 4, and this product is supposed to be for pro creatives. Anything above 2-3 is considered too uncalibrated for color work, and sure it can be calibrated, but come on! Are we just lying to consumers now?
I kinda agree to a certain degree but he literally said in the video that its good for "most" creators not all. And with the ICC profile they provided the dE of the display would be around 2.5 which is just a little higher than the display I personally use for my workflw.
paid actors
I guess when you get money to sponsor.... yeah, apparently....
The price of it and being called 'affordable and color accuracy isn't bad' are both just stretching the truth to bullshit.
I disagree. Outside/portable environments is never a good place for color accuracy. It being good enough is fine for its usecase. Drawing tablets in general arent accurate. You would have a refrence monitor on the side at your main set up for final touch ups. The price just kills it though.
I like Plouffe, but he makes this seem like a better deal than it really is. Bit of an sour aftertaste left if you consider the referral link.
he just said outright lies all the way through the video and you only realize them when you use professional grade artist stuff yourself
i dont even like plouffe
same @@anonymouscommentator
Bruh, this video had#ad written al over it. The parts where you can see them draw is laggy as all hell
1000%. Even him watching youtube and the latency with pressing is TERRIBLE
Also that stand is wobbly as hell
For that price I rather save up and buy a Wacom screen
Or save a buck and get a huion or xppen
It felt super forced, like Maria was trying to state whats good and bad with the tracking i was waiting for how she feels it compares to the ipad pro or whatever she uses but she was cut off every time. Does it have a battery? What do the type C ports do? What is the competition (other than an ipad since its only a screen)? Does it have a speaker (why are there those huge bezels)? Is it not scummy that the necessary accessories are sold separately? Are the prices mentioned in the end including the accessories? So yea feels lacking but i did enjoy what Maria did to Riley.
"wow you hear 17.3 inches and you don't think it's that big until you're holding it in your hands"
😅😅😅😅😅
That's what she said...
It feels like everything Plouffe says is just spinning problems into making the sponsor look good. "The pen isn't very accurate" "It's great for taking notes!" "Great portable second monitor that doesn't cost an arm and a leg!" costs an arm and two legs I basically can't trust anything he says at this point
TBH regardless of sponsor shenanigan, I think you can't really trust whatever Plouffe says. There never is a lot of substance with him, it is mostly about the superficial, the looks and whatnots. He can be entertaining but for the most part I find his videos always lacking...
Man is a "keyboard enthusiast" that thinks Cherry MX is good. What do you expect?
@@AlexanderEinoder I'm not a keyboard enthisiast, I own two keyboard, both use cherry mx switches. Both are stock or whatever you want to call them, nothing special. If I were too look for more of a professional (custom) keyboard, what switches should I look for?
@@fillezzo I'm not an expert myself, I'd recommend watching some vids by chyrosan22. The whole scene seems to be about covering up or altering the sounds of the switches which I think is a consequence of cherrys having a poor sound to begin with. Old Alps switches have a dope sound and feel and some newer optical switches are pretty decent. I think it's important to think about what you actually like about mechanical keyboards, what sounds make you feel good? Thockiness might not be the right direction
Buyer beware; I few years ago I bought the two 15" screens. I had a problem with my order and their customer support was extremely rude.
What is even the point of Labs if you're just going to skip over their results in a sponsored video?
What did they skip?
@@Jj82op Not a literal "skip", but at 7:20 they briefly show the results for color accuracy and gamut coverage. Usually they explain what the numbers mean, more than "It's not bad."
@@jonathanfung4028 I just assumed that he didn't know the exact numbers at that moment. I don't think it's a big deal

I got a portable ~15" external 4K monitor for ~$129 shipped. USB-C powered and mini HDMI. Obviously a laptop screen slapped into an aluminum frame, but incredible value for money. Only 60Hz, no clue on color accuracy, no touch, and speakers are a joke, but it gives SO MUCH real estate and flexibility. It had one of those pleather folio covers with it as a kickstand. The extras the shown product has aren't really worth an extra ~$600. The stand is the only notable feature since all of the "graphic work" elements were pretty much shot down by Maria along with other commenters. It's so gosh darn expensive... 4K/120 monitors with the same or better color accuracy (HDR 1000) run $600 on sale nowadays too. Point being, it's an awful value proposition on every front. Apart from being 4K, a used iPad / cheap drawing tablet does everything it does and more.
First LTT video I've seen in a while that made me uncomfortable in the sense that it seems 100% paid for. I get the sponsored videos, but isn't LTT supposed to only talk up things that are actually good whether they're sponsored or not? Someone approved this sponsorship before testing it seems.
You can write about it on their forum, they usually listen to the feedback
Just read the reviews Burns thru power usually 1.5 hrs And The speakers are really tiny So it sounds Tinny Price $999. You will need a Stand $99. Expresso Pen $89. Expresso Charge $199. Expresso Case $69. Comes out to Almost $500. Not counting taxes but NOT an APPLE Person? U Won't Be Pleased
This felt like a shameless ad
This is a catastrophic miss made even worse by the fact that Maria literally came on and told the truth before being paraphrased to completely gloss over her actual expert opinion :/
So it's not a tablet . It's a portable touchscreen monitor
They didn't claim it was
@@noredine the original tittle did and mentioned in the video

@@michaeldyer6378 Thanks! Everyone should read this as warning.
and that's the whole thing that labs should've done for graphic tablet, but ofc they skipped the labs data because it made the sponsor look so much worse than anybody else. Edit: We revolted enough and they changed the title! Don't buy a tablet...buy a monitor to haul around with your large laptop and charger. Bad take.
This is the most useless advice I have ever gotten from Shortcircuit. Buying a device that's just a monitor. It can't replace a tablet at all.

I would buy an iPad Pro rather than that thing, and I have one, loving Procreate and the Apple Pen is just that good. I don't see why people would buy Espresso. If you guys want a drawing display or drawing monitor, highly suggest either Wacom, Huion or XP Pen.
It's pretty sad, but I appreciate the reviews where they call out a bad product for what it is, hope they would have done that here.

you mean the samsung tab s series or the phones?
@Ikxi . Galaxy tabs would be way better value. screens have better pressure sensitivity. than this thing. They include the pen with better line accuracy and you still get second-screen functionality. At least i know you can with PC. ITs a WIN WIN
@@michaeldyer6378 and its an OLED thats way brighter and more color accurate. Plus its a tablet PC on its own.
Pen tracking isn't too good, and it's got nothing to shout about with colour accuracy. These two points discount this product for most professionals / artists. Price too ... shesh ... get an iPad with an Apple Pencil that's actually accurate. Can even connect as an external display on your Mac ... so like. Value wise. Get a Tablet lol. *Dont buy a tablet, buy a second screen - yup. total sense. All of it. the entire video. ggwp. 🙄
ok i prefer my second hand ipad. This is just a small portable monitor with touch.
Oof had to check twice if this was an unbox therapy video.
Sooo if you want to interact with this for drawing.. you dont have gestures?? Then you pretty much have to bring a keyboard as well with you or at least a macropad. Being able to zoom, rotate, flip quickly is important but i cant imagine a good spot to have the macbook just for the keyboard.
Cool, another crazy expensive device from Plouffe, dont buy a few hundred dollar tablet, buy this for only 3 times as much.
$900 for a portable external display? Bruh, buy another laptop at that price
A tablet or a portable screen? If it's just a screen, it's expensive.
Delta-E of 4 in the srgb space isn't great, is it?
I think I may choose the acoustic version 📒 📝
Sponsored short circuit videos suck. I don't want to have to mentally factor in how honest the host is being. I like these people, I want their real unfiltered opinions. Otherwise what's the point? Waste of my time.
im like if one of the selling points is "its a touch screen" yea, a lot of products like external screens are these days i mean personally i bought the galazy tab s9 ultra as a media tablet and i could not be happier, even for drawing its okay, and oled, might not be like creator accurate for drawing but i mean it wasent designed for one thing only its a bit of everything, and i mean for something that thin the speakers are incredible
Title is misleading. This isnt a portable monitor - its a Wacom Cintiq clone graphics tablet. Wacom has been the standard here forever and their pen interface looks a heck of a lot more responsive. I'd expect a portable monitor to have HDMI, audio support, and an anti-glare display - I certainly wouldnt buy one without.
i dont see how this is a good thing to get
LTT got paid pretty good to release this video
I use my Huion tablet as a second screen and as a drawing tablet when traveling with the laptop something I like about this one is that only need 1 cable to work instead of a dual cable for the laptop and the energy plug, it saves some cluster and was considering this product until I saw the lack of accuracy on that Photoshop practice, would keep an eye on the brand for future releases.
please just get a wacom cintiq instead.. the brand in this video is awful for artists
you forgot to link the color calibration file.
Added to the description, thanks!
As Linus has said before, "There isnt a bad product, there is a bad price". For 1000 Euros this is horseshit mate
it would've been nice to compare the setup you demo'd to a macbook with an ipad in sidecar, if that's the use case you're highlighting. does the extra size make it worthwhile versus the integrated ecosystem, how does the stylus hold up to the apple pencil, etc etc.
wtf lol that price
Bought a used samsung tab s7 fe with cracked screen + keyboard for like 250€ and it's working great The thing in this video.....
Question: what is the compatibility of the stylus with android or windows based operating systems and wacomstyle pens?
this is so cool !!
If you want a tablet for art and design get a $500 XP Pen Magic Drawing Pad. The name is meh BUT $500 12.2 for easier travel Android tablet Expandable storage Comes with a stylus Its built like their graphics tablets, but runs on android. So you get that same response you would on their other products Did I forgot to mention its 500 dollars?
$800 bucks lol... that schizo level of absurdity for what the item is, a portable monitor.
I think the only benefit is it seems to be powered off the laptop or a battery instead of needing additional power cable like most pen displays. That said, appearance wise it looks a lot like the Samsung Tab S8 Ultra I just bought, without the internals that makes it so handy for drawing without cables in the way.
On the topic of _iPad being a phone:_ take a look at *duet display.* It makes your iOS device do this. You can also use the Apple Pencil with _all the precision,_ use gestures and it can do it all *wirelessly.*
I thought LMG would do better than this after the GN controversy. This is just blatant pondering to the sponsor. Also twisting Maria's words to make the opposite point of what she was trying to make was awfully rude. To her and the viewers.
1-2 pound stand YOU DON'T WANT THAT IN YOUR BACKPACK my laptop is 2kg, that's heavy for me to consider taking my tablet with me instead
Feel like youre better off just getting a tab s9 and using it to mirror windows
1:45 was about as far as I needed to go when the price flashed up on the website.
I just got a Self-Harm warning.... this is gonna be goood.
What would be a good tablet to work on CAD software, i asume CAD wont run well on something like tablet but if you can run it on a desktop and remote connect the tablet would that work?
I've tried running Onshape on Ipad and Android tablets before and it is really unproductive compared to the good old mouse and keyboard. I am guessing this would be worse since you wouldn't have the gestures you have with the ipad os and android app of the onshape or any other cad software. You'd still need to use a keyboard for them.
Never used Autodesk and im not sure what level of precision you seek, but any Android tablet with SuperDisplay and some sort of decent pencil input would most likely do the trick. Samsung Galaxy Tabs are great because they use Wacom's EMR with the SPen and Superdisplay translates that imput really well, I can use the S9 Ultra for drawing and vfx work without any issues. I think you can do pretty much the same with an iPad onto an iMac, but the apple pencil is capacitive, like the one shown in the video, so you gotta charge these. And of course, any graphic display from wacom, xpen, huion, etc are great options for more serious professional work.
I really like the android ones But Google Tablets Let Google know What you Are looking for In a tablet. Size, Price, Speakers, Color etc Good Luck!
Who is this product for?
Obviously this was sponsored and that's totally well and good. Yet it should be the policy that sponsonred videos doesn't mean automatic endorsements. Other commenters describe all the ways this feels disingenuous. Not sure where the disconnect happened but this isn't a good model no matter how much the sponsorship was. Good video except for the unrealistic spin
they've done sponsored videos where they point out flaws but here.. yea...
Yeah... this felt like a bit like sucking up to the sponsor. an overpriced screen with sub par performance. If a sponsor doesn't like the review, they should make a better product 😅
This + Mac Mini will be good combination
Looks like a great product for someone out there I just have no idea who that person would be also damn is that thing expensive, for that price it really shoud have an oled display
what kind of title is this? don't buy a tablet, buy this and you will have a useless display without operating system 😢
While I'll agree with most comments in saying that something marketed towards artists and designers probably shouldn't be reviewed by someone who isn't either of those things. Commenters who also aren't digital artists are making the wrong comparison between a display like this and an Ipad. I would like you guys to point me to the nearest 17" or 20" ipad. Going from 11" to 17" is GIGANTIC. The real comparison for this product are other drawing tablets. A Wacom with similar functionality costs well over $2500. But compared to a Huion or XP pen display it's a bit closer but those other ones seemingly have a better pen than this display has
Plouffe was someone holding you at gunpoint for this sponsor? You're smarter than this man. Literally nothing about this is OK. The price is ridiculous, the color accuracy is a joke, and even Maria said it wasn't accurate with the stylus... The Auto Rotation looks like auto rotation from 15 years ago... Do better man.
The take was so bad they've changed the title from this: "Don't buy a tablet, buy this - espresso 17 pro"
Just a note you can literally just use an iPad Pro for an external touch screen MacBook Pro Display like wirelessly or wired I believe. Also like this thing with a pen is going to be the same price as an iPad Pro which seems a little crazy for a monitor. Even the smaller touch screen versions like the 13" and 15" or what ever they are like $500 still which seems really really high. But the non-touch screen one is like $219 so I guess that the touchscreen costs a lot to put in there lol. Also the Pro is like $799 or something insane and the pen is $90 as well as the screen protector is $60 for some reason.... It's really cool and nice for creative work but like a Wacom tablet or an iPad would prolly do the job better at similar prices and with more support for them later on.
as somebody who has 5 portable monitors now I am so far impressed with the espressos. I wish It had one more USB-C port and a better cover and the touch access to the settings is a little touchy. 2 out of my 5 are espressos as I couldn't decide on the 15 or the 12 so I got both (ouch). The smaller one is a nice size and stays in my bag with the bigger one available if I want more space but travels with another computer a small form factor mini Computer I use for OBS playback and a virtual mixing console a full blown i7 system that can runoff of a battery. I definitely recommend getting 180° USB-C cable to wrap the cable back underneath and behind the screen and out of your way I picked up a 3 foot and 6 foot extension.
this is a tablet made for artist, and in that sense it's overpriced and has wayyyyy less features for the price than any other majoy actually trusted brands for artists
The formfactor is carzy good and the build quality looks really good as well. However seeing that wobble in the line is such a bummer. If they can solve the wobble in future devices then I'll get one no questions asked.
2:34 "through whiteboard collaboration tools like Miro, Figma..." *laughs* "...and Conceptboard"
this as a 2nd screen/tablet is like saying buy the remarkable for note taking
why so overly positive? Every fact you state about the product is just not good compared to other alternatives, but you keep stating 'its not bad' or 'its okay', when in reality this seems like a poorly executed product. Seems disingenuous.
It's really sad that this was sponsored and that they could not give their honest opinion on how bad this is as a product.
Pretty heavy to carry around. My laptop weighs about 4 lbs (xps15), I'm a tech contractor and once I have all my cables and portable network test equipment in my bag, I don't want to add over 5lbs for a second display that doesn't even have a battery (so it drains my laptop battery on the go). Idk. Seems like it doesn't fit into a market. Too heavy to be portable, too flimsy to be stationary. Dang, that price though. Nope.
yea way too heavy my laptop alone with 2 bottles of water in the backpack can be quite heavy, so this is just a nope
Maria is a ray of truth in an otherwise mediocre ad.
Just ordered.
I feel like this one might cause some internal discussion as to what should be accepted as a sponsorship. This was very awkward to watch.
