Mayor of London Sadiq Khan illuminates Coventry Street to commemorate Ramadan.
Joined by broadcaster Adil Ray and Rahima Aziz from The Aziz Foundation, the switching-on ceremony took place near Piccadilly Circus in central London.
These lights, adorned with Islamic designs and "Happy Ramadan" greetings, will brighten every evening for approximately 30 nights until the celebration of Eid Al Fitr in April. 🌙✨

Be concerned and focused on being alive in Ramadhan so that we may reap it's reward by doing obligatory worship as well as voluntery worship and keep far away from sins....so that we reflect, self evaluate our belief, knowledge and actions and become a better God fearing knowledgeble educated Muslim.

  • Come on people please don't be kill joy. I know it's hard to find happiness in anything with what's happening now. But those kind of symbolic events are good thing for muslims. At least to form a sense of community and a way to defend their identities in countries where they're the minority, it's just meant to make people happy. If you live in a muslim country, you know people celebrate the arrival of ramadan. What matters is that we respect its core.

  • Have a great Ramadan to all who take part. However let's be sensitive to the fact this country is a Christian country. It's Easter and our celebrations shouldn't be overlooked. This is such an important time in the Christian calendar and London is our capital and ramadan is not a festival we celebrate so this really isn't acceptable. I think that it's very sad we are having the Islam religion forced upon us and our politicians need to make a change.

  • The ones saying we dont need this is not thinking about the children...YOU are looking at it from your old aged lens...Our children needs something to enjoy and look forward to as well to keep them loving their Islam. So many people wonder why the children grow up and turn their backs on Islam stop taking the joy from them...Its only lights...We all as grown ups know what is going on in the world and we will also keep that in our hearts,charity,prayers,and minds....Having lights not having lights is not going to change what is going on...Let the children be children the halal way enjoying Ramadan🎉
