It’s quite interesting how this is basically the most disturbing scene in the entire film and it doesn’t even involve the Grabber
Right
@@lwdrd Uhhhh a lot more harmful to mental health? Ummmm idk about that. They’re both pretty traumatic. I get where you’re coming from, but I think it’s a bit of a stretch.
RIGHT. For real.
@@lwdrd ???
too me the most disturbing scene is the grabber sitting upstairs shirtless waiting to beat him, that or the “i just wanted to look at you” part
Madeleine (Gwen) actually said she lost her voice by the end of this scene. That shows just how much emotion she put into this role. I hope she gets more recognition in the future she deserves it.
I hope they gave Maddie some tea with honey and lemon to help her throat!
She should definitely get an award for this.
She was good, he wasn’t. Makes this performance look stale and like a performance 😭

finney screaming in the background was so scary because he felt so bad for his sister and didn’t wanna watch her get hurt
Hi
This is the moment I and my whole family knew she’s a star in the making. Everyone’s acting in this movie was really on point, but her’s was out of this world. Some of the best acting I’ve seen right here.
I thought the same. Finn’s actor too. We’ll be seeing these two a lot in the future.
Yeah surprisingly, most of the time kids acting is pretty bad, but these kids were really good at acting
Absolutely took my breath away. She is incredible.
For realll
When I first saw this scene I said "that was really real" I was blown away by the acting of this girl. The context of the scene is terrible but her acting really sells the whole thing 10/10
Her dad should've been killed
Insane acting from the little girl who I think was 12 at the time. This scene felt too real. It made me feel uncomfortable, sad, and angry. Fantastic.
Rob zombie once said “art is not always supposed to be beautiful” while filming the sexual assault scene in devils rejects.
I felt these three emotions, plus absolute _disgust._ Acting has me IN it, bro.
She is a phenomenal actress

This scene made me cry, probably the most disturbing thing and part of this movie. Really felt bad for Gwen lol even though it’s just acting. She really nailed the part!
The exact same thing happened in the 1997 made for TV movie "Before Women Had Wings" where Glory Marie (Ellen Barkin) did the same thing to Bird (Tina Marjorino)!

I had a full blown panic attack during this scene. I was sobbing for a solid 2 minutes. The people around me tried to console me then they started crying. I never knew how bad my PTSD from childhood was until this scene. By far most disturbing and difficult things to watch in this movie.
Really spilled your heart out huh..

I felt that...had a whole "that's so Raven"flash back to when I used to get my ass beat like that🥲
A lot of people don't know why the father is pissed during this scene, but it wasn't that she talked to the Detectives. He's pissed cuz she's becoming more like her mother. In a later scene, after the main kid is kidnapped, the father tells his daughter that she has the same powers as her mother, and the mother was driven mad with her powers and she took her own life. He tells her he doesn't want the same thing happen to her, and it'sone of those "this is for your own good." It's still VERY messed up, and this is still very hard to watch, but it does paint a picture of why the father is like this.
But he doesnt have to beat her, he could do literally anything else
There are other ways to work on that
The father looked like he was about too cry which also hurt me I'm traumatized of this movie
I came from an abusive household with alcohol and drug addictions and this scene broke me. I just want to say to anyone who’s gone through this or something similar, you’re not alone, you are loved, and you have a purpose greater than what you suffered. I can say personally that the addiction I witnessed and the abuse I experienced, made me a better man, and equipped me to be a good caretaker and father. I learned everything NOT to do from experience, and just being able to make a kid smile, and feel loved and appreciated, makes it all worth it. You can’t change what you went through, but you can help others who went through the same thing, and comfort them in a time of need. Much love to everyone out there who experience domestic violence and my thoughts and prayers for your lives and you’re future.
It’s because there mother di3d and she was getting dreams and she di3d because she was having dreams like Gwen so if u watch the movie u will understand.

The worst part is that some of us can relate to this scene
Yup. I remember turning around and seeing my baby brothers standing in disbelief while I was getting my shit rocked. I ran away at 15 and never looked back. I did always feel guilty for “leaving my brothers behind” but after I left, they never hurt any of us again.

I came across the audio in a random reel on ig and looked it up here and now here I am sobbing in the middle of the night. It’s astounding to see such impactful performance at such a young age. And it’s heartbreaking to realize that this is the sad reality for so many kids all over the world, due to deep-rooted mental health issues that we fail to address, allowing them to remain taboo. At what cost??!!
At the end of the movie the dad was so happy to see Finney again but at the beginning this guy oh god-

Acting is off the charts in this scene. Such a gut wrenching thing to watch.

I feel horrible who are actually going through these type of situations. My heart goes out to anyone who has been through this or currently is experiencing this.
This scene alone has me fully convinced that she is among the best child actors working today.
This scene was so triggering..it reminded me so much of my dad and the cries she had..talking through the cries and pain in a pleading voice..fuck..that was hard to watch
Meanwhile my family is being stereotypical saying that this is black thing 🤦♂️ anybody can whoop they kids though
@@lildurk3004oh yeah, everyone can beat their kids. Maybe because in black families it’s more known I guess?! (I don’t mean that in a bad way at all either) I think they speak on it more..But most white families try to hide it I feel. Especially if it’s the father who does the beating. Idk..Either way, there’s no reason to beat your kid so much to where they are so afraid of you, that it’s uncomfortable being around you. A lot will argue that spanking can’t hurt, and maybe some light spank would be okay..but I have nerve damage from my abuse so I’m all for keeping your hands tf off your children.
@@lildurk3004I also will say, when I hear black people talk of how they got hit and beat on, my heart breaks because some are made to believe it’s normal and it shouldn’t be normal. No kid should have to go through that. Some parents abuse their power as a parent
Madeleine Mcgraw played the role of Gwen perfectly!!! She is such an incredible Actress!!

i’ve cried like this but was never hit or beat that often as a child, it was mostly threats or insults
The way she says “my dreams are just dreams" made me cry a Lil bit ngl, out of context it sounds different
I watched this with my dad just about a year ago. Being someone who knew a lot about the bad things in the world because I had multiple nurses in my family, this hit HARD on past me… Even though I’m still very young It was really sad, but it was a great movie. I get told I’m very mature for a child a LOT because I grew up in a family full of adults, second youngest being old enough to drink. When I finally realized what was happening I was shaking. Great actors.

Something that I really liked about the movie is, I understand, that people would be quick to write the father off as just an abusive unfunctional tool. But, it shows tender moments where he truly seems to care about his children, as well as insinuates how he is broken from their Mom's departure and the dreams that he couldn't understand and she likely couldn't explain but they terrified both of them. This scene is more then just some brainless alcoholic beating his daughter, it comes from fear of losing her and Finney, and in a twisted sense, love.
That’s what j thought. I never really considered him to be abusive. It just seemed like he was grieving the death of his wife the wrong way and was so desperate for Gwen to not do what his wife did to the point where he thought he needed to get physical to prevent it from happening
@@superjackster0165 well no…he was definitely abusive mentally and physically. However he seemed to truly care for his children. The type of person to believe in “tough love” however love should never hurt.
Yeah he’s not pure evil. You can see the remorse in his eyes, but actions define character either way. That being said, he sucks.
@@bertram5806I'm pretty sure that was the only time he hurt gwen. Yeah it was so very wrong off him, he had an alcohol issue and probably wasn't the best father. But you can clearly see that he was grieving and he cared so much about gwen because he didn't want her to commit suicide like her mother did. He obviously loved and cared about them but he didn't know how to show it.
@@elley06.x he was abusive mentally…mental abuse hurts the most because it’s not like you can put a bandaid over your bruise..it sticks with you forever. Being an alcoholic in itself is abusive when you’re a sole parent. I’m not denying that he loved his kids..I’m simply saying that abuse should not be justified with love.
