In Theaters June 24
www.theblackphonemovie.com/
The phone is dead. And it’s ringing.
Director Scott Derrickson returns to his terror roots and partners again with the foremost brand in the genre, Blumhouse, with a new horror thriller.
Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.
Starring four-time Oscar® nominee Ethan Hawke in the most terrifying role of his career and introducing Mason Thames in his first ever film role, The Black Phone is produced, directed, and co-written by Scott Derrickson, the writer-director of Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
The film’s screenplay is by Derrickson & C. Robert Cargill (Doctor Strange, Sinister franchise), based on the award-winning short story by Joe Hill from his New York Times bestseller 20th Century Ghosts. The film is produced by Derrickson & Cargill’s Crooked Highway and presented by Universal and Blumhouse. Jason Blum, Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are producers on the film, which is executive produced by Ryan Turek and Christopher H. Warner.

One of the best horror-thriller with an emotional touch. This movie is quite unique cuz it's horror-thriller where there are both a serial killer and ghosts. I like how the story isn't just about making people scared or feeling goosebumps but it also has character development and a family story which you can relate to. There are several touching moments which makes the movie stand out from the rest of this genre. Also love the performances by both the siblings actors. I swear once you get to the part where the boy is kidnapped, you'll be hooked to your seat.

@@freezingcold3702 it’s based on a true story
ok so I have some theory about Finn's mother. so we know how Gwen has those dreams and how it is shown that her mother experienced the same thing, and it's likely it was passed on to her. well I seen another theory that it also sort of passed on to Finn, and that's what allowed him to talk to the other victims, because he asked Billy did the phone ring for any of them, and he said that it rang, but none of them heard it, implying that the ghost kids tried to save the others, but they weren't able to communicate with the dead, unlike Finn. billy also mentions that the grabber himself hears it too, but pretends not to, so if this theory is correct, how can the grabber hear it? well (and this is just a theory) if you look at Gwen's dreams and Finn ability to communicate with the dead, they all relate back to the grabber. Gwen has dreams about the grabbers victims, and Finn can talk to them, so there must be some connection. and also, the grabbers really name is Albert Shaw, and in the books, Finn's full name is Finn Shaw, not Finn Blake. maybe Blake is his fathers name, and his mother's is Shaw, meaning that she is related to the grabber, most likely a sister, because the it's never mentioned in the movie (I haven't actually read the book yet lol) that he has any other family other than Max, but he still proably does. so if Finn's mother is the grabbers sister, and she has the dreams, and the grabber can hear the phone, it's probably either started with them or was passed down to them. max may be able to do something too, but it might be somewhat traumatising so he dulls it with drugs, kinda like Klaus from the umbrella academy. and to be honest all of them probably have some trauma, proably to do with whoever raised them. like you don't just raise kids and one grows up to be a drug addict, one grows up to be a killer and also (if my theory is right) one kills themselves. it's also mentioned that the grabber has lived in his house since he was a kid, and is familiar with the phone and how it doesn't work, ok it's really late I'm just gonna finish this tomorrow sorry for any spelling mistakes
Tommorow never comes
Wow you're cool. Didn't think of it that way
I just found out Joe Hill (the author) is Stephen King's SON. While i was watching the movie 15 minutes ago, i noticed a lot of similarities with king's style. Psychic kids with powers passed down from a parent that passed away, villain that is also supernatural making both the protagonist and antagonist related as in "narratively" not biological. As i see the how much time was remaining in the movie, i was wondering if there would be a cliff hanger at the end to make room for a sequel and extended universe because there's no way the movie would've ended without explaining the mother + why there's even supernatural stuff happening in that world. Then there's that scene when she's on her yellow raincoat, in the rain, alone, and I'm like "oh she's about to encounter either the grabber or the ghost kids, just like Georgy in ITChapter 1... And she did. So predictable 🥹
I agree with your theory. Both children inherited their mother's gift to see and/or hear ghosts and it saved Finn's life.
They literally showed the whole movie in almost 3 mins.
Maybe, they've made the movie in three minutes.
I turned it off midway cuz I could already tell the spoilers were huge in this one.
Idew2 c it nomore now ik he gone Get out

Not really
Something about this is touching. The scene where the boy is practicing hitting with the phone and the ghost is there with him was pretty cool, but for some reason the idea that these kids were there to walk him through and help him succeed where they failed really hit hard. It was like they were his guardian angels.
made me want to cry a bit to be honest...because you just know, if the kid doesn't make it, he'll help the next victim like the kids....
What happens to the kids in the phone if the kids escape/ the dude stops kidnapping
Y’all twisted…..
What you are describing about the missing dead kids teaching Vinny (I think that's his name) how to escape through the phone, is like what if the Ghost children from Coraline are giving her clues and ways to get through the challenges to retrieve their eyes.
you talk too much
I think what made this movie so enjoyable for me was the fact that the characters are actually smart and not the common horror movie character type. I was genuinely so happy when both Fin and Gwen made smart decisions instead if making dumb ones that could've gotten them killed. Spoilers ahead, don't read if you somehow haven't watched it yet. Everything Fin did was just smart in general but I really gotta applaud Gwen because when she found the house, she got back up and rushed home to call the police. In a different horror movie, she would've barged in by herself. So props to The Black Phone!
My absolute favorite movie of all time! Ethan Hawke was electrifyingly SCARY and the kid who played Finny and the kid who played Gwenny absolutely KILLED IT! Every actor in this film killed it! 10 out of 10! BRILLIANT!!! 👏 👏 👏

If I was personally charge of making this trailer, I would have kept the concept of the kids behind the phone out of the trailer. The main kid getting kidnapped by a magician with a girl getting dreams to help him is already an idea that captures attention. The kids behind the phone could have been a neat twist.

A suspense thriller . I cried ,laughed, and routed for the kids. Movie was great. I was on the edge of my seat and the last telephone entire scene ran chills through my body. The villain was creepy / scary/ and played his role intensely with agonizing sadistic terror. Momentarily I felt I couldn’t take the movie because some times it felt slow but picked right back up. A roller coaster ride. Every time the phone rang my chest was beating . Every time something didn’t work for Finney my palms sweat and I’d feel like I was there in the basement with him. All the kids were convincing and did some good acting. The end is satisfying to watch and I would have like to see the cops be less of idiots. The cops suspicion through out was really low of the sadistic actor brother. This movie had me too much on the edge , very wild and my emotions were on a roller coaster ride .

I have a feeling this will be more psychological than traditional horror.
Psychological horror…IS TRADITIONAL HORROR. Horror is psychological

english: my favorite movie. it immerses you in the story in an incredible way, it's not a horror, but a suspense, it leaves you curious until the end and it has some scares, but nothing too much. Ethan's performance (grabber) is impeccable, and Mason Thames (finney) has become my idol, this boy has a lot of potential for his age. the recording is great, they record everything from every possible angle, which makes the film even better. what i'm seeing is a lot of people saying that the trailer showed the whole movie, i saw it in the cinema and, believe me, it doesn't. so watch it before you judge, you won't regret it. portuguese: meu filme favorito. ele te imerge no conto de uma forma incrivel, não é um terror, e sim um suspense, ele te deixa curioso pro fim e tem sim alguns sustos, mas nada demais. a atuação do Ethan (grabber) é impecável, e o Mason Thames (finney) se tornou meu idolo, esse garoto tem muito potencial pra sua idade. a gravação é otima, eles gravam tudo em todos os angulos possiveis, o que deixa o filme ainda melhor. o que eu estou vendo são muitas pessoas dizendo que o trailer mostrou o filme todo, eu vi ele no cinema e, acreditem, não mostra. então assistam ele antes de julgarem, não vão se arrepender.
Too many trailers are setup like highlights of a film rather than an independent project entirely where the objective is less about impressing and more about peaking an audience's curiosity. I know that sounds obvious, right, but this whole trailer should've ended at the 1:38 mark, right after the boy picks up the phone and says "Hello?". At that point, we already know the phone isn't plugged in. We know what's happening is at least partly surreal or imagined, so why go all the way and show a whole group of ghost kids complete with a training montage? Now anyone who's seen this trailer will basically go into the film having already watched the entire storyboard in HD.
"ghost kids complete with a training montage" Omg this is exactly what I was thinking 😂 u have such a way with words lmaoooooo 😇
Yeah, I hate trailers like this. It's like the person who cut it has no idea how to actually sell the Movie without showing us every beat, I don't know if it's to draw an audience in or if it's a request from the production company but far to many Film Trailers do this now and it kinda sucks.
fr, thats exactly where i paused it bro
Yes! I say this all the time. I want to be left wanting more with a clever sneak peak....not shown the cliff notes version of the entire movie.
❤️
imagine picking up the phone and you hear "Hello, We've been trying to reach you about your cars extended warranty"
Or even scarier than that if it was some dude with a Indian accent telling you that you owe a past due bill 🙄
Bwaahahah!
Lol

The answer IS: The Daily Double (*clapping*)
BLUMHOUSE: "Here's our new trailer for The Black Phone". CHANDLER BING: "Can you SHOW me any more of the movie!?"

Watched this movie last night with my husband. Thank the Lord we have Ethan Hawk, David Arquette and the writers and producers of this movie in Hollywood. Take the lead on great films. Please keep making them. Ya'll are taking the place of those already gone. The next or already top dogs in Hollywood. Please keep up the phenomenal work!🥰🤩❤🙏 We'll be watching your next great flicks!
Eery, creepy, scary, emotional, happy, sad, 70s 80s nostalgic, very deep psychological thriller horror movie unlike any other. Lot of good ones but wow this is one of a kind.
Ah this point, EVERY TRAILER being released, pretttyyy much tells us the ENTIRE plot💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀

I mean I don’t get why people watch many trailers for a film? I only watch the first trailer for every film and it has work perfectly. The less the better.
THIS WAS SO GOOD JUST WATCHED IT JUST NOW AND IT HAD ME CRIED A LOT . and Props to the actors they Did amazing especially the kid who played finney And The sister who played Gwen they're so talented 🙌
Give the director an Oscar! Great job Scott Derickson
This could possibly be the movie that puts Ethan in the forefront. His movies are a hit or miss but this is going to be insane!
About time someone acted on revenge
He was great in the before sunrise trilogy and Training Day
Hit or miss? Hahaha. How about Training Day? First Reformed? Dead Poets Society? Brooklyn’s Finest? The Kid?
I like all his movies
training day, sinister, the purge, reality bytes, white fang, alive. dudes one of the most successful actors in the world i wish i was hit or miss that way
When the trailer pretty much shows you the whole movie.
I was just about to type that lol
I hate that so much. Its like that recent virgin mary statue horror trailer.
m.kzhead.info/sun/oL6inNtpbXxpa6s/bejne.html
Exactly. I had to stop watching it. Who the hell cut this trailer!
Just like Halloween kills did you even need to see it
It is a good movie. Suspenseful, creepy, few jump scares. What makes it better is the creativity of it. Everything adds up and leads up to something. You find yourself trying to figure out how to escape with the character as if you were with them yourself. If you are a fan of those old escape room computer games on the early days of the web, (when newgrounds, mofunzone, and addicting games was the best) you’d probably enjoy this.
There’s a possibility for a prequel or spin offs. The mother’s past. The Grabber backstory. But I doubt it could surpass this one. It’s so good.
It's looking like a great year for horror. This looks great. Ethan hawk us criminally under appreciated in my opinion.
He is underrated as heck.
So when does it come out
@@cactusmalone I agree for the most part, but the scene in Gattaca where he berates his "superior genetic brother" was awesome.
The only reason I'm watching😍
how is he under appreciated? he's a very famous actor with a ton of recognition for his work. he's been nominated and won many awards (4 Oscar noms alone).
It's ironic that Hawke says, "Wanna see a magic trick?" because that's the problem with 3-minute trailers. Audiences want to know just enough to pique their curiosity, just like wanting to see a magician. Instead, a 3-minute trailer shows us the magician, shows us the trick, and explains to us how they performed the trick.

This movie was FANTASTIC I gotta say one of the best I've seen in a while. I'm not a big fan of horror but this movie was seriously crazy! The child actors did great and I like how this shows other problems than kidnapping, like bullying, abuse, and so much other stuff. Great movie 10/10 recommend!
This movie and the character will become a franchise. I absolutely LOVED it!!
I actually have high hopes for this. Ethan Hawke looks like he’s gonna kill this role!
This is is the first movie trailer I've seen in a long time that actually made me super interested. And I'm not even remotely a horror fan
"role"
Bacon or sausage?
@@bilinasmini3480 Same here coz I guess it has an element of crime thriller or detection sorta story in it maybe.

Ethan Hawke is a seriously underrated actor. Sinister was one of his best performances and an overall heart/gut wrenching scary movie. I hope this one doesn’t disappoint and hopefully will have a positive impact on the horror genre
Sinister was one of the best horror movies of the past decade as far as I’m concerned right up there with Hereditary

This is so far best horror movie i have watched in past few days. I am big horror fan. Also fan of blumhouse. But this is some extraordinary movie which deserve a recognition in horror genre. I was so hooked throughout the movie that kept me on the edge till very last moment. Great acting. Great screenplay.
The Grabber: wanna see a magic trick? Joker: this is a man of culture

One of the best movies I have watched recently. 10/10
Went & saw this last night & absolutely loved it! It did a great job in setting a creepy tone & making you feel uneasy from start to finish. It definitely kept me on edge. It’s not a typical horror movie littered with jump scares. All of the actors did a phenomenal job especially Ethan Hawkes performance. From the atmosphere, to the acting, storyline/script, visuals, it was all great. It did a great job at making me feel like I was in that decade as well. Beautifully shot. I highly recommend this movie. Definitely worth a watch!
Ethan Hawk, the main kid, his sister, and that karate kid. Hawke usually plays the same basic good guy. Hollywood typecasts. This job was phenomenal.,
