Welcome to another Don't Starve Together guide! Today we are rushing the ruins as Wormwood, one of the newer character additions to Don't Starve Together. Wormwood has the ability to plant seeds anywhere in the ground and regains sanity from planting crops and trees. His major unique characteristic is that food does not affect his health, either beneficially or adversely. So we can't rely on blue caps to heal Wormwood during a ruins rush. Join us as we dive into the ruins on Twitch and learn a few lessons about rushing the ruins as Wormwood in Don't Starve Together!

I had started a run then regenerated due to funky worldgen. Firstly, there were zero moleworms in the starter biomes and pig king deciduous forest (including around the glommer statue) which I've never seen happen, then we found the pseudoscience setpiece sitting in the middle of the lichen field. It was going to be an accurate representation of the typical ruins experience so I decided to start over.

She Sells Seashells went live in April 2020. An Island fragment of the moon has left a lonely creature stranded. Is it friendly? Time will tell. Throughout 2019, Klei released a series of game updates available to all players, under the single thematic focus entitled “Return of Them."
"Hook, Line, & Inker" will be remembered as the big fishing update. We finally have the tools we need to go sailing and fish around literally anywhere in the ocean. This update added over a dozen new ocean mobs, three new crockpot recipes, and tons of new craftable items and structures. Most of these new additions are tailored toward the goal of dramatically expanding the fishing experience in DST. So stick around to the end while I attempt to cover everything!
Charlie’s machinations have come to a head as she turns her attention towards the skies - and the mysterious entity that awaits there. Our Survivors will be forced to contend with terrifying monstrosities beyond their comprehension, and yet, there may be a silver lining: their minds and horizons will be expanded under the sublime light of an ancient moon.
Here is an overview of what was added in the first update, Turn of Tides:
Added a new multiplayer-centric boat mechanic, where players can build and deck out a boat for multiple survivors to travel together on
Added a new Seafaring crafting menu
Added the Lunar Island
Added Enlightenment
Added 3 new Lunar Island biomes, along with new creatures, objects, and craftables
Turn of Tides focused primarily on building the fundamental tech and infrastructure for Return of Them. Since then a significant amount of content has added to both the islands and the sea.
Don't Starve Together is the standalone multiplayer expansion of the uncompromising wilderness survival game, Don't Starve. Now including Reign of Giants; adding new characters, seasons, creatures, biomes, and Giant new challenges to Don’t Starve Together. Cooperate with your friends in a private game, or take your chances with strangers online. Work with other players to survive the harsh environment, or strike out on your own. Do whatever it takes, but most importantly, Don't Starve.
Also, little tip, the absolute easiest way to get sanity as Worm, is to get a Spiky Bush. You do the same with it as with the sapling, only Worm won't actually lose any sanity from digging it up, so you can get sanity faster than with a sapling.

@@JazzysGames I actually learned this from Slasher's video, "Can you beat Don't Starve as Garfield". I don't play as Worm, but I guessed why not share it with people who haven't watched the video, and like playing Wormwood.
@@dazoul5459 actually that doesn't work in DST, in don't starve solo it does, that's why slasher use the technique, but in DST he does lose sanit fom digging up the spiky bush.

@@JazzysGames you could however, although wasting an inventory slot, get as many seeds as possible, each give 10 sanity and that adds up fast, even just 10 can have you getting back half of your sanity, which can be helpful, although it wastes the possibility to get crops early on, but since you'll most likely leave near winter its unlkely you would've had even a single harvest anyway.
As a Wormwood main who has never rushed the ruins.... its time to ascend.

I love playing as Wendy in DST and would be thrilled to see a Rush guide for her, if possible. Her damage penalty may hurt, but her sister sure helps a ton for monkeys! Free food!
Not really much of a difference. Her damage penalty is negated by the fact that Abigail's buff makes it so that her damage multiplier is ~1.1x, slightly higher than average, plus abigail damage.
Thank you for this, the fur roll strat was amazing for my Wormwood ruins rush. Back on surface day 9 with epic ruins loot! Next step is scienceless!

Great run! I never would have thought to take wormwood into the ruins for these reasons. I don't play wormwood, but I have a friend who loves him, and this will definitely help us when we play together!

Very informative. Never been the best at rushing the runes so this is pretty interesting
My little tip is that if you bring a stack of pinecones with you, it's plenty of sanity that doesn't spoil unlike sanity food. 40 pinecones is 400 sanity, enough for two full restores, which is pretty good for only requiring one inventory slot. It helps to gather 60 all at once, then plant 20 to fully restore your sanity again. Or just gather 40 and nom green caps or something. Also, have you considered using a log suit, storing it in your backpack, and simply dropping the backpack before combat? It's not going anywhere, and you can always pick it back up after.
A: Log suits are more expensive than FB helmets, and yes, its a hassle especially in a place as dangerous as the ruins. Also you could get sneak attacked since you have very limited vision, and can't put on the log suit in time. B: Pinecones are ehhhhh. In the ruins its a detriment, because you'll be wanting to grab every bit of nightmare fuel you can.
Hey, I've been using the fur roll a lot, it's cool to see someone else using it :) When I play Webber, with the loads and loads of food, I like the fur roll a lot, not only for the ruins!

Really only as wormwood because its a time consuming and impractical way of healing. Better off using pierogi and blue caps
@@gosaelius8135 if you're rushing tho, you may not have time to prepare these things or gather the materials, necessary. It just depends on circumstance and if you know you're in a safe position to do it. Sleeping is actually pretty useful, people are quite literally, sleeping on it.

If you have roads, a magiluminessence and a cane, you can sidestep dragonfly’s first attack. Literally, make sure that when she is about to attack you walk straight to the left or right, and you dodge her attack since her movement direction is locked during her attack.

@@JazzysGames Yeah i really like using him, my only problem is the lack of skills for combat, i have a hard time trying to fight even spiders or waves of hounds, its quite hard to counter that using Wormwood health issues and even i public servers i often put my friends in danger because of this..
Berry use his brambles, they are amazing AOE damage. Remember to have you and those aground u use the bramble armor while doing so tho! The AOE thorns can easily kill players and destroy other armors
It sucks that he's a bad character overall though. Instead of Wilba, who has an interesting transformation and actually has benefits, or literally any of the other Hamlet characters, we get this plant that's essentially a living log farm... Why, Klei.
Bramble husks, unlimited living logs, plant seeds with no expensive farm plots, immune to lureplants and sea weeds, extremely cheap sanity restoration, can eat red caps and raw monster meat all day. Pretty nice collection of benefits if you ask me.

At 8:57 you say "I'd rather save the [thulecite] club for future fights with bosses that don't move around as much." This sounds like a good idea on the face, but actually matters less than you might think. It's unclear if it is intended (I don't think it is), but the shadow tentacles only attack once each, so the boss moving around really doesn't have a huge effect because the tentacles spawn, attack almost immediately and then just sit there doing nothing. As a side note, contrary to what is listed on the wiki, the fact that shadow tentacles only hit once each means that the thulecite club always does less damage than a dark sword (excluding wes/wendy), doing effectively 66.3 damage on average compared to the dark sword's 68.
That's good info. In my last Ruins guide I did discuss the club versus the dark sword. For me the biggest benefit it has over the sword is it's 150 uses versus a dark sword's 100, so with a regular damage modifier you will eventually do more damage with a club because it will last much longer.

If I remember correctly, you're right about the monkey inventory. They do have one, and need food to fill it or, if there's poop on the floor, they can grab it and then throw at you. But if is food, they'll eat and then have poop.
Their eating animation is pretty cute tbh

Imo, best Ruins rusher's are still Wolfgang and WX, but I would admit Wormwood as 3rd best
as a worm wood player i would sugest using a full bottle of formula to get your bloom phase started, in 3rd form allows you to wear a piggy back without the speed down, but use formula once every 2 days, to be safe use it once a day

No the black day meter happens when you are not under cave light (no natural light from the surface)

Can you rush the ruins as Webber please? Maybe like this with the livestream, Webber has low sanity, but spiders are neutral to him, so it would be a different expirience.

Any tips on fighting bee queen as Maxwell without Bunnymen? I have beat her no cheese before but I am worried about the 75 health
So...I just streamed a ruins rush as Maxwell then died while fighting BQ. Surprisingly, the health was not a big issue (blue caps are great for Max), but I didn't prepare enough armor. I'd probably try for 5-6 beekeeper hard next time and maybe some log suits too.

Question: how come in no speedruns the speedrunner is not attacked by nightmare creatures while cheesing the guardian? How to avoid this? Just cook blue shrooms?
Well I try to restore my sanity before going into the labyrinth because of the reasons I discussed. So nightmare creatures are not generally an issue during this fight for me. You could cook blue shrooms or green caps if you find any. Or just kill a shadow before going in.

This won't work for us we grab all the gears and wires so not enough space for that much supplies.
I actually brought back a few wires and gears so would not be sacrificing any additional inventory slots if I wanted to bring back more of those.
