Yes. He allegedly asked to go back in to the game.
Steve Mason was very sick, so that's why he didn't start this game. It was definitely something floating around the locker room because it was reported that Neuvirth wasn't feeling well at all before the game started, but he had no choice but to suit up and get to the net, thinking, hoping and praying that he'd be able to fight through it. Turns out that as soon as he went into the typical goalie stance during the time of the faceoff, everything just went dark, the lights got blurry, and boom. He fell. This was taken from a press conference Neuvirth gave upon being released from the hospital. I think it was just a bad sinus infection, which can feel like death itself (speaking from experience).

5:13 It happens quickly, but when the goalie drops, you can see the closest ref skate towards him. The ref only sees him out of the corner of his eye, and he begins immediately skating towards the goalie, but doesn't look at him. His eyes stay on the face-off. Weird, but something about that split second screams professionalism to me. Like he'd seen goalies pass out many times before. I would have stared in shock for a second, wondering if it was a joke.

Well hell, no sense in finishing the video now.
I love when the opposite team doctors help him
LoganEspo why? To the doctor it is just someone in need of medical attention.
LoganEspo Drs take an oath save life’s doesn’t matter what the situation is doesn’t matter about teams for them it’s an oath
LoganEspo same
Lol... Does this really need to he said? As if a doctor would consider not helping and letting someone die, because his loyalty to his team would be questioned.
LoganEspo 😂😂 what is supposed to do taunt the mf while he’s ko’d?
The reaction of his teammates when he fainted was honestly the response that really warmed me
Agreed, and the fact the other team rushed over to see what was happening
having a guy fall like that for no reason, everyone was thinking heart attack
If this were playoffs however, I bet it would be very different.
@@flapawangatang6209 i doubt that with every fiber of my being.

The respectful silence is deafening. Greatest sports fans are hockey fans👍
dav rogrz I think that’s a human thing regardless of sport
As if people are gonna stop caring about a human being because they're on the opposing team...
Umm the philly flyers started booing when they were losing on the same day they did a minute silence for an old coach who died not classy at all.
KingDrifterz it's Philly they can't help it
@@cobrak1ngs yeah, I think this appears positive cause it's the Flyers goalie. Had it been Schneider, we may have heard some "Boo's" but I hope not.

You totally should

@@limitless4249 innit. These people act like it's an achievement that they hope he's okay because they support a different team or something
This is a reminder to all of us that it's just a game, and there are things that matter more than that. I can't even imagine what his family felt when they saw it happen. I hope its nothing too serious and Michael recovers soon.
Neuvirth made a full recovery. He's actually been playing quite a bit with Elliot injured.
Poor guy :( I know it happened a few years ago, but I still wish him all the best

this was recommended to me after jay bouwmeester just collapsed on the bench

i watched that last night!
I had no idea they had to revive Bouwmeester. Jeeeezus....glad hes doing better
I remember watching this live. Been a flyers fan my whole life and it was heart stopping not knowing “did our goalkeeper just die?” I saw him moving and i breathed a sigh of relief. Happy to know he was okay.
Year late but yeah can’t imagine seeing the goalie just collapse. Super scary stuff
Wayne Simmons got so scared he almost fell himself. Thank goodness Neuvirth was okay.
He turned quick to go help the doctor
I hope he feels better. Great to see the flyers and dev's doctors coming together to help him. Events like this show how great the game is
Why i love hockey, not only did his own team (of course) jump in reaction but the other team did as well.
Man every sport has these moments. It's not only hockey
So relieved he's alright. Feeling for him, I almost collapsed after my last game - I wasn't planned to even play, was battling the tail end of an infection and our starter told me an hour before the game he wasn't coming and neither was his backup. My blood sugar crushed during the game and I couldn't even undress by myself. It's so scary when your body betrays you. I can't even imagine how bad it was for him, not even getting off the ice under his own power.
You know what I like about this sport the fact that if something serious happens on the not only does the respective teams trainer go out on the ice but the opposing teams staff respond to in the moment they’re not enemies or opponents they’re just fellow human beings
Randy Lehey fair enough just saying it’s extremely good sportsmanship I mean opposing team medic don’t have to come off the bench but they do
Hey-o, Penguins fan here, I know we're intense rivals and shit like that, but I sincerely hope that he was okay. It's _never_ okay when _any_ member of _any_ team just passes out like that. Stay strong, Neuvirth. You're a Flyer, and an Eastern Pennsylvanian.
Still young. I wish him all the best. from Russia.
Scary shit! I'm not a Flyers fan, but this brought tears to my eyes. Even two years later, I feel so bad for him.
Yeah it's horrible for a young player like him to have to deal with something like this ik this was a while ago but it still is sad to see
It’s great to see the other team being concerned and worried, waving in doctors , and even having the opposite team’s doctor attend to the goalie. Amazing.
Man ever since Jiri Fischer's heart attack I always imagined the worst when seeing these things happen. I remember seeing the footage of Fischer's heart attack and I was shocked. Scary shit. I hope this guy is ok and cleared to play again soon!
TurbanatorGamer or when Rich Peverley died on the bench and had to be paddled back to life in the hallway connected to the dressing room
sublime3784 so he lived?
Yes. He allegedly asked to go back in to the game.

So did Jay Boumeester
It was anthrax
It was a quick relief when the Flyers got Anthony Stolarz at the next sudden call up by the Head Coach while Sitting at the bench. Thank Goodness Michal is alright at the time. Yeah. those Goalie Uniforms do weighs a lot.
@@tinotse2007 I don't follow hockey it isn't very big here. How many goalies does a team have on their roster.
@@drmayeda1930 Normally on any Hockey team their,s 2 Goalies . Just sometimes Coaches bring in a 3rd Goalie for Emergencies. Should the Starters or the Second guy gets injured. But in every NHL Teams have 2 Goalies.
@@drmayeda1930 All NHL Teams have 2 Goalies
I remember him from his days in the echl with the stingrays, he was a really great guy and a very talented goalie. I wish him the best of luck.
Silentman 77 where is he now
I'm so glad they showed the bench reaction a second time after the 1st one got cut off. Amazing.
I gained a lot of respect for the Devils' franchise from this. To see their trainers run out without hesitation shows how much of a family the NHL is. Same for the Devils player who motioned for the paramedics to come.
It is really nice for the NJ Devils player to like wave his hand for help.
Its always terrifying when stuff like this happens in any sport. Glad to see how fast the players and staff reacted in both teams.
say what you want about NJ, and i’m not a devils fan, but the fact that the medical staff came out is so respectful. i love this side of the NHL.
Seriously hoping that he's okay. Hope he's healthy and everything's fine
Well he still plays for the Flyers so it's debatable.
Did you even watch the video

That is awesome that both trainers came to help him out great sportsmanship hope he ok
Pens fan.. I actually teared up
Jeremiah Gerhart I teared up too! It's so scary, hopefully it's nothing serious.
@Cheyanne Elizabeth rivalry's don't matter when it comes to a player's health besides Crosby but when a player especially a young one gets seriously injured or just collapses on the ice it's a huge cause for concern and most fans forget about that entirely
Good for ref St. Pierre for noticing it immediately
I watched him play in Hershey. Many times....and THAT is pressure. You got to have it wired together to play where you are expected to win. All the time. Every time. And he was great.....we invented the "Nuevy" chant.
I love seeing the Devil's trainer out there and even Devil's players called both of them over. Seeing two rivals care about each other's safety shows how much of family the NHL is.
I love how even the Devils players and doctors checked on him.
you cant help but feel for this guy hoping hes alright no matter what team you cheer for
I'm glad to here the respect of players and fans and coaches thats hockey
A game is just that a game. I can't stand the Flyers as I am a devil's fan, but when it comes to this kind of stuff sportsmanship and respect take precedence.
@Nice Day stfu fuck you too
Wayne Simmonds full on almost broke his leg after trying to turn around to help the doctor on the ice
It’s so nice how teammates help other teammates so quickly
its good to see the NJ trainers and docs were concered hockey is a amazing sport
I love how everyone comes together in moments like this truly amazing :) even though a horrible situation but he's ok as of 2018 haha

@@UngasBungus69 If he was sick and playing in net it was probably from dehydration from the sickness so it was dehydration.
Nothing hurts more than amazing goalies and players getting hurt 😭 I wished the best for him
This has to be up there with the most classy opposing team and crowd reaction I've ever seen. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE being silent and respectful, only waiting until they know he's okay to cheer and only sparsely at that so he gets his bearings. That and his teammates jumped up just as quickly as the ref who noticed. That is a team who will do anything for you.
Crowd wasn’t for opposing team. Game was in Philly.
It's real funny the first time I watched Michal was when I saw this game live at a restaurant. I thought oh god is he alright? Still to this day he is still my favorite player of all time. I even got to see him at the flyer's carnival last year it was amazing!(not trying to drag) Some people say he is bad or that he should get traded, but I think he is just perfect being his 'little' czech self!
Unrelated to the injury, but I thought it was funny how Simmonds nearly breaks him leg after hopping on the ice.
I thought he was gonna fight someone
wayne was concerned for micaeal , they're like brothers when teammates..
AfroJumper He cant skate
looked like simmonds straight up panicked. completely worried and unable to decide what to do
AfroJumper me to
So glad he was ok, also was heartwarming to see how clearly affected the crowd was as they went totally silent as well as both teams reactions. Events like this make you realize it's just a sport, even if you love the hell out of it.
wow this was so scary. Man I am glad to see everyone coming together immediatly to help him

Очень порадовала реакция команды... Вот, что значит, один за всех и все за одного Надеюсь с ним все будет хорошо
Just shows the amount of respect the players have for one another. That was scary as hell
I hope . you are doing well . dear NHL warrior. at the end of the game. much love and respect for all this talent man on the ice.
Simmonds nearly broke his ankles trying to get back to the bench to help the trainer
For once the two teams are getting along, I love watching hockey and seeing two teams talking or at least not arguing
Life has a way of reminding us it's just a game
i hope he feels better with prayers
awe I loved that the other team helped!
5:50 Wayne Simonds nearly fell on the ice
Hockey is such a mature sport. In the end, they are regular people and want to aid others, even when they are on the opposing team. This is why I play and watch hockey and it’s my favorite sport, like when you play 7 tough games and you lose, they always will be happy and respectful and wish them luck
I remember this game like it was yesterday it was my first game that I ever attended in person and it didn’t disappoint
Who still watches this in 2020
THIS IS PART OF THE REASON IM LOYAL TO HOCKEY. COMING TOGETHER AS ONE
Toby Arguello in any sport they do this...
There’s a lot of shade thrown between different teams, but I’m happy to see that everyone drops the act and comes together to help someone out when it’s needed
They all showed such genuine worry on their faces. ❤️
Anytime a Professional Player Collapses during a Game is very Scary & Shocking. In Michael Nuevirth Case. He would be Alright. Assumibly Coach of the Flyers said to him. Michael go home & Rest. The Team will play in your Absence. Get well.
he was sent to the hospital...
That is absolutely horrifying. All is fine and all of a sudden, down he goes. No contact, nothing. At that moment no one knows anything which is scary. Even when he's on the gerny, he's still not right.
Best of team work on both sides love it guys hopefully it happens to all teams doctors on both teams every game
This is why is love hockey , no matter what team your on everyone cares about each other no matter what !💯
People don’t realize this but the goalie is the hardest job on the ice imagine having to be constantly aware where the puck is while bending down and also if you let a goal slip in imagine how upset you feel with yourself...Also no breaks on the ice the entire game
Lol it's not that hard

Hate to see stuff like this happen, but I love to see the quick response time, and the assistance from the medical staff and players of the other team. Regardless of where you are at in the season, it's still just a game, and these guys are still only human.
I remember watching this game, and I was extremely worried for Michal... Definitely a super tense moment.

50 lbs of equipment - that's how much on average an NHL goalie wears. I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often. Glad that he's okay.
Is he OK now? This is very scary and also very sad. I got a lump in my throat watching this. It's good how both teams care, though. That's really good.
