I spent a year creating a difficult climbing game inspired by the rage game Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy. I am a big fan of Bennett's work! Ever since Getting Over It came out I was sure countless similar games would pop up, but I was disappointed to see this not materialize fully so I took it upon myself to create this game, hoping to contribute to a "Foddian Type" game genre.
It's hard to condense a year's work into 15 minutes, there are obviously a million things I could have mentioned. I included the parts I found most interesting and I tried to focus mainly on the design rather than the super technical bits. Feel free to hit me up on Twitter or join the Discord if you have any specific questions about the game :)

I've been doing programming from age 10 to 26 as a hobby but am missing some critical core math skills as I find myself hung up on math-related issues during almost every project, despite feeling like I had a pretty solid understanding of math through school. It's the engineering side of things I'm missing and I know it. I have raspberry pi's and arduinos but know how to do almost nothing with them even though I've made entire working MMOs in javascript. • I appreciate your practical approach of making a game that doesn't take itself seriously, and using pre-existing resources to lesson the workload. I tend to do everything from absolute scratch and have a perfectionist complex that prevents me from getting things done efficiently. Like, the stupid way the guys arms flaps in the water to "swim". That's what makes a game fun.

The way you struggle to understand the controls in the first playthough and the way they just seem to click once you've made it to the top is just fantastic. • one year for so much ideas and models and solutions all by yourself (I'm guessing?) is pretty damn amazing, the game looks very fun and yes I would say that the obvious similarity between this and "getting over it" is a good if not great trait, the idea is still unique even tho it looks similar, but all hyper realistic/realistic games look similar too right, I say job MEGA well done

  • You know i would be completely fine paying for dlc for this game. Like some new levels, or even maybe, like a co-op racing mode would be dope to challenge friends to see who is the fastest or even have a map where you have to trust your companion to make it to the end. This game has so much potential. i can't wait to see what the future holds.

I’m working on my first proper game that I’m gonna release on steam in large part because you’ve been a great inspiration. The looks you’ve given me and others into your creative process have been endlessly helpful. Thanks so much for that and keep up the good work.

  • You made a phenomenal game! And it's even better that I can see how the sausage is made. I ended up clearing it in about 4 hours and was smiling the entire time (except for maybe some of the hour spent desperately trying to figure out how to consistently jump for that one section with all the big jumps just above a large lake. Very rude, but it prepared me well for later when the consequences increased.)
