Hey RobTop when is save on exit checkpoints?

Hello Rob
“So, the first thing I did was that I made a programming language” How dare you say that so casually
As a dev, it's harder not to make your own language. It will be a nightmare for anyone that works on it in the future. At some point requirements will change and the limitations and shortcuts you've made to make some tasks a trivial oneliner become barriers and additional problems you have to work around to actually accomplish that slightly diffetent thing than the language was designed to do. Your language probably won't be any faster neither in running code nor writing it. The problem is, once you know "enough to be dangerous ", writing your own domain specific language is not that hard. Writing a general purpose language isn't hard too, but to make use of it, you'd need to make a lot of libraries to do anything, that's just too much work for most devs and there's no clear goal like for more domain specific approaches. Anyways, for this purpose (describing geometry dash objects) it is okay as it is a tool for a specific one job and nobody will have to maintain it later. In a job setting, making your own non-standard language is more of a crime than anything to be proud about (or job security).
Meh... 5/10 comment, could be better...
CS majors all have to do it for a class
I also disagree with the child comment. DSLs are a fantastic way to do things and, when created carefully, can actually be loved in job settings and greatly reduce effort for entire groups of devs. They are a layer of abstraction like every other tool, and that comes with every cost standard to new abstractions. The trick is balancing the cost of the abstraction to be less than the value. Writing an entirely new mostly unfamiliar syntax to make arithmetic easier? Bad abstraction (probably). But, example, hooking into the python parser stack to make a decorator that adds the ability to easily turn any class into a reactive ORM for data streams using 95% the same syntax, but now you can also get streamed fields and version the class so that you can make custom migrations using Python object syntax: worth it entirely and it's definitely a DSL because it uses modified language semantics. The point is to balance the cost of learning the abstraction against the benefits of what it unlocks. Sometimes a full language *is* worth it, but, that's often when the problem domain is so complex that the savings of learning the language reduces complexity more than it costs. I'm assuming that the dev for this level understood the complexity requirements better than some armchair dev here. The ability to hook into all the info a full language provides probably greatly reduced effort to write a gd object "compiler" because of the available semantics and ability to define the problem more directly

OMG, this is simply AMAZING. An artist will never be satisfied with his own work, but everyone else can look at it and tell from miles away it is a masterpiece. NEVER look at this project with regret, what you did is amazing. The end result is something out of this world, the way you ended everything was not rushed and you did not cut any cornes to make your vision come to life, and it did. You can always go back to it if you want but look at what you made: - You impressed a whole community, one made out of a lot of dedicated artists and amazingly talented people, not only any community - You learned a fucking ton about 3d Rendering, copilers, data structuring and more - You showed an amazing portifolio of, not only, how smart you are, but also how good you are at problem solving, any game engine's software engineer dreams he could have something so palpable to put on theirs CV, I would recommend you to any studio I work, this can literraly carry you into a high paying job, if you ever wish to go after it. - You put it all into a well paced, funny and really well edited video, documented your work and have it all in a easy to digest 25 minutes "document" - Aaaand... you made the game creator, the god of your community, apologize to you for the pain he caused xD... Spu7Nix, you accomplished so much, actually you inspired me to not give up on some projects im currently working on, and Im sure I'm not the only one. i just want to mention that i LOVE how this video is structured. the way that you voice this video in an "exaggerated" manner, explaining every step of the process of creating the level, while you felt like your sanity was slowly being lost, made me feel quite uncomfortable while watching the video. it really hits when you return back to your regular voice at the conclusion of the video, when you're reflecting on the past two years of creating a geometry dash level. honestly, really well done.
I will never get tired of videos like this, because back in the day youd see so many people stop a project like this due to the difficulty, but these insane geniuses manage to bring up problem after problem, following it with “so I developed a programming language” or “so here’s the insane workaround I came up with that can never truly be explained to the average viewer”
Mann.. You have done a great job. I'm sorta in tears because of the impression you made. Maybe its just a geometry dash level and you have made fun of this fact for the entire video, but I think its more than that. You have used your physics, calculus, programming languages knowledge to make something. Something, that is eternal. And all the things you have done for this level - are you sure, that all that energy you have put is wasted? I think no. You managed to do something, that everyone thought is impossible. In other fields people get a Nobel prize for that. Yes, you haven't got the money but its not the only thing to measure succass. You have the appreciation. I have been really inspired by the people, that use science on practice. For many ones calculus and physics are just problems on paper, they don't actually feel the science. They don't actually imagine how the world is connected with itself. That all the mathematical and physical models are just special point of view on reality. And you did it. You managed something, that not every university is there to offer. Even if no one else understood the real enthusiastic effort you have made and you think, that this level is worthless piece of shit, just remember, that at least one person appreciated you(at least!!!). Not only your efforts, but you too. Like a person you have probably gone through horrible times during working of this project. Nothing is forgotten. No one is forgotten. Holy shit the EDITING and NARRATIVE of this is amazing!! Why aren’t you a director of a famous indie documentary by now??
im new in the community and i tought the story of geometry dash has ended, but im really suprised to see a mind blowing level that maybe change geometry dash forever, keep it up 👍🏻
I've been around a while, and I will say that every year or two has a mindblowing level that, for whatever reason, often becomes a notation in the history book of this game, overshadowed by top players beating something ridiculous or by the return of somebody that played in 2014 or something. The level before this one "HOW", was the original 3D mindblower, and it really made a difference. Now, it's just taken for granted. Someday, this level will be too, overshadowed by a video game recreation like the FNAF level or somebody finally making the OSU! port into GD that has been a meme for years.
@@PORTALIAN_Deathstep man i cant imagine what level will overshadowed this
What was looking like just a video about a process of creating a level turned into a video which describes real life horrors like pressure from public, pressure from lack of time, and regret. Greatest twist in history of a game about a square jumping over spikes
You know it’s crazy how the level is made when Sputnix’s voice goes into decent madness as the video goes on.
Grammar 💯
I can really relate to this video. I have Never played the game and I know nothing about programing but I think I have had these thoughts and feelings. This video is a masterpiece. It feels so honest and true. I hope I can achieve this with my art as well.
It's videos like these that rekindle my passion for programming.
