At some point i was thinking "that's it, this guy is finishing the whole spoon with that axe"
😀I know, I thought the same. Axe carving skills-exceptional!
Love the knife and love the carvings
No abrasive paper =master at work. Great demonstration of technique.
He's a fecking master. Those angles are so fecking hard to control
That is a work of art in the shape of a spoon 🤩
Absolutely beautiful spoon. Thank you!
I’d love to see his sharpening process/method.
Max’s awesome as usual!
Such a pleasure to watch this process, a huge reminder of how far I have to go and the inspiration to keep on keeping on!

Not a how-to, but for someone looking to learn the craft past the basic knowledge you captured some great knife strokes. I found it super useful 😁

A beautiful piece of wood,i am satisfied with the outcome🎯🍺👍
Bello! 😍👍
Omg, with my 6th spoon done. I have a long way to go. That and actually working with green wood would help. That way so beautiful.
Salam sejahtera Dylan..
Cooool ;D
Amazing video same as Maximilian’s work 👏
Thank you! That's great to hear!
Ooooo...it's beatiful work...Do you work with undried wood from the forest?
So skilled. But I kept on thinking, I wonder if he can whittle up some bandaids.
If you have a link for any of your tools, I’d appreciate it!
I like the axe your using. Which axe is that?
Nice. What a beast of a sloyd knife too, it looks massive and sharp as fook
What kind of hook knife are you using for the “bowl” of the spoon?
Thank you. Nice work. What wood have you used? Gracias. Bonito trabajo. ¿Qué madera ha usado?
it seems to be beech wood!
What hatchet are you using?
Hey buddy, where do you get your carving tools?
What kind of wood is that?
What type of axe was that?
I follow You on Instagram, I love your work! I'll try to make one like that on futere. Regards from Argentina!
Thank you! Have fun making one!
Great video. Very relaxing, thank you for posting. Was that the Journeyman you were using or the Wayfarer?
Great to hear you enjoyed it. If I remember correctly, Max was using the Journeyman.
Thanks. I thought so too, they both have a similar shape.
I learnt a lot.Thank you.By the way what tree did you used here?
It looks to be European beech (Fagus sylvatica)
👍
what is the tree you use
Who needs chisel sets when you have a supersharp handaxe?
You make it seem so easy. Im butchering a piece of wood and finally ready to dig out the bowl and its way to hard. I cant get the knife in.. is my wood to old?
what wood are you using?
You should be carving green wood ,
Great video, of an artistic endeavor. What a coincidence to find this one day after I ordered a “spoon-carving for idiots” and two days after subscribing to Dylan’s channel! What type of wood was it? Here in Shimoda I have a lot of beech and citrus (orange) which seem like they would be great for this pastime.
Thanks for your comment! This wood is spalted beech. Have fun carving your spoon! I'm working on one right now as well!
What type of wood do you use?
Cedar I think?
beech wood?
looks like it indeed!
Buys a 2 dollar wood spoon at the store. Starts cutting into it. We are the same.
What kind of wood did you use to carve in this video? And, don't lie either. :)
It looks to me that it is beech
@@marr123n We'll never know for sure though. I need to put "beech" on my to-carve list.
@@MorrowSind definitely! It’s my absolute favourite to use! Lovely wood for sure
Is it plum? No?
no, it seems to be beech wood, spalted which makes it so dark

At 1:59, I like this technique but I would pull my elbows in, feet spread, and lean my body on it, rather than use feeble and possibly tired arm muscles.
I feel ashamed of my spoons haha
It's all progress! It can only get better!
Was ist denn das für ne Axt
Not a single movement that wasn’t needed. It’s as if he knew exactly what wasn’t the spoon and how to remove it
ok i give up...
Almost triple 6 likes lets gooo \m/
Big deal. Everybody carves spoons. How about carving a fork?
