You can buy this wooden Dragon→ en.mokuchotakaba.com/product/...
I am selling wood carving chisels from the same manufacturer as the ones I use on the website. I am gradually increasing my selection.

A dragon relief is created by partially attaching another member to a thin plate.
Even those who are engraving with a hobby that can not spend money on material costs can make thick sculptures by adopting this method, so please refer to it.

  • When my Dad was stationed in Misawa, I remember we had to take a Japanese Culture class in elementary school on base. We had several options to chose from when it came to creating Japanese art and I chose woodcarving. I made a bass fish and I truly enjoyed the process. There's nothing as satisfying as watching your piece come to fruition.

  • This really is KZhead content at its very best. Now, I get to see something that’s so different from just what is shown around my neighborhood or immediate area - different even from what I see in my country! And it’s breathtakingly beautiful! I was fascinated throughout the entire process, and feel so lucky to have this amazing craft I had barely ever considered be shared with me! Thank you so so much!

    • Yes, it is a nice change to see actual talent on KZhead. This platform is flooded with mediocrity and garbage. Seeing a fellow artist who is exceptionally gifted, is like a refreshing breeze from Autumn's Breath.

    • @@theshadowsovereign8914 With absolutely no disrespect intended, I'm going to have to disagree with you. KZhead is definitely full of plenty of things that are not to my taste, but that doesn't detract their value to someone else. It's not my place to judge, nor was I even asked to in the first place. I was mostly speaking to the phenomenon of the internet introducing me to something extraordinary created on the other side of the world that I never would have been exposed to otherwise. His work is truly breathtaking and I was blown away by watching it unfold!

  • Beautiful work. I am a woodcarving teacher always in search of new techniques and inspiration. This video has done both. It gives people a very small idea of the time it takes to create hand carved pieces. Art like this is expensive, because of the time and skill of those who make it. I was looking forward to buying some of the gouges you were using. Then I realized the yen to USD conversion = $75/tool! I guess I will just stick with my Pfeil (Swiss) gouges and won't be adding any Japanese tools just yet. Thanks for sharing your art.

  • Every time I watch a carving video. It makes me want to run into my own workshop and get to carving! No matter who I watch , I'm always reminded of the wonder of working with wood. , there is something magical about the process. Truly love your work and the medium. The feel of knife to wood , the sounds of the cutting , so immeasurably enchanting . , And the balance and flow of your work. ,your beautiful clean lines , the inverted and outer rings of water and dragon.. Truly a stunning piece ! The torture is really horrible however , in that I cannot find similar hand tools here in Canada as you are using , I've many the tools I need and make use of . However many the chisels you are using I certainly would find more uses for ! Many such are exactly what I'm looking for , of which the quality and designs are not found here . I'm currently working on a piece where I've been wishing I had more fine and smaller bladed chisels and gouges with the designs you have present . . Both the shape of the knives and handles I know can result in greater control . Can you sir ? ,recommend a company of which I could look into sending a request too ? I would appreciate this . I have to say again that this was a real pleasure to view you at work! You make me wish to be finished my current projects so I can get to new ones ! However I'm not one to rush my process. Masterfully Carved ! I thank you for sharing and inspiring . You have reminded me the quality of attention needed to carve. And the need for attentive completion and quality if clean cuts. I am grateful .

    • The carving tools I use are made in Japan and most of their makers are small sole proprietors. As far as I know they do not sell online so it is difficult to buy from overseas. You can sometimes find old used carving tools on eBay, so please check it out. Older carving tools generally cut better than modern ones.

  • I was just recommended your channel and being me I couldn’t pass on watching it. Beautiful work. And very calming to watch. This might be an ignorant question to some, but as I have no clue of the ins and outs of this art, how does one rectify mistakes, for instance in a particular peace with so much detailed, if maybe one went in a deeper than expected/wanted, would you change the design or just work around it? Or is the another way if maybe the mistake is severe enough?

    @nandiieftyl9951@nandiieftyl99512 жыл бұрын
    • It depends on the case, but basically it is handled by changing the design. If the mistake is too big, it will go to the trash.

  • My Grand Father used to make things out of wood, if you couldn't find him in the house he was at the back of the garden in his shed wood working. There are not many artisan's in the world today who can do this kind of carvings. The Japanese people hold on to many traditions which i think is a great idea. New equipment and laser printing, 3D image printers make things much much quicker but for this man doing wood working and carvings are part of his heritage. honestly i prefer the old ways of carving this is a magnificent piece of art. I love Dragons and to see ancient carving that blow your mind on how they did them. this is magnificently done and done the old way. A very talented artisan indeed.

By the way, the dragon design in this clip is very beautiful, and the dragon expression is very lively, it’s very important to show that expression for a mythical figure in cravings. After we settled in California, my father continued his work for local temples and restaurants in Southern California, that’s when I got older, and helped him design the dragons for his work. My father retired about 20 years ago, and passed away about 11 years ago. I see my father as a legend. I now keeping his craving tools, as I also retired last year as an aerospace engineer, I may be picking up my father’s craving tools, to start my own craving work. I will be watching your videos.
