A dragon relief is created by partially attaching another member to a thin plate.
Even those who are engraving with a hobby that can not spend money on material costs can make thick sculptures by adopting this method, so please refer to it.

¿Qué madera has utilizado? Gracias. Saludos desde Argentina
Ah yes i know exactly what that means
😢😢
When my Dad was stationed in Misawa, I remember we had to take a Japanese Culture class in elementary school on base. We had several options to chose from when it came to creating Japanese art and I chose woodcarving. I made a bass fish and I truly enjoyed the process. There's nothing as satisfying as watching your piece come to fruition.
You experienced wood carving in Japan. Making things is interesting. Thank you very much for your interesting story.

Do you know how much it can be sold for?
This really is KZhead content at its very best. Now, I get to see something that’s so different from just what is shown around my neighborhood or immediate area - different even from what I see in my country! And it’s breathtakingly beautiful! I was fascinated throughout the entire process, and feel so lucky to have this amazing craft I had barely ever considered be shared with me! Thank you so so much!
Thanks for watching. KZhead really is revolutionary!
Yes, it is a nice change to see actual talent on KZhead. This platform is flooded with mediocrity and garbage. Seeing a fellow artist who is exceptionally gifted, is like a refreshing breeze from Autumn's Breath.
@@theshadowsovereign8914 With absolutely no disrespect intended, I'm going to have to disagree with you. KZhead is definitely full of plenty of things that are not to my taste, but that doesn't detract their value to someone else. It's not my place to judge, nor was I even asked to in the first place. I was mostly speaking to the phenomenon of the internet introducing me to something extraordinary created on the other side of the world that I never would have been exposed to otherwise. His work is truly breathtaking and I was blown away by watching it unfold!

what I love most about woodcarving videos, is how detailed the sketch is, only to be carved away in seconds :D
Beautiful work. Keep carving, you definitely have the heart hands and eye for it. You are gifted. Major respect 🙏
Your dedication, carving skills, video editing and the music, all masterfully put together!

Excellent!! I used to do some wood carving when I was younger but my hands won't let me anymore. I sculpt with clay a bit now it actually makes my hands feel better, but I miss it thank you for putting your talent on youtube for others to see I enjoyed it very much it ment a lot to me, may you be able to work your magic with wood for many years too come. Stay safe and God Bless.
This man leaves absolutely no room for mistakes… Straight Master!!!
The carving that was done was simply amazing. Every detail, the pride taken ,and most of all the results. Beautiful work.

Your 3d spatial awareness is awesome. Even after you carve away the drawing you know what to do and redraw it again over the unfinished parts. Really awesome job.
Thank you

Highly respect your skill and master woodcarving craft. Stunning and beautiful work sir!
Thank you👍👍

Wonderful! I remember as a child having been tought woodcarving with my grandfather, the pleasure of the blade movement sensation, and the satisfaction that comes with the wood slowly becoming the desired shape (I was carving an angel). I wish I have enough time to do it again
Just incredible. To see bits being drilled out then slowly becoming fine details. Amazing talent 🥰
Thank you👍👍👍👍
So glad I was recommended this channel. Not only is your work beautiful but it was very relaxing to watch. Might I make one suggestion? Don’t add music. I enjoy just being able to hear the sounds of the cutting. Thanks and keep it up.
Thank you! And, many people say do not need BGM, I will not use BGM from next my video.
Very relaxing to watch !!!???
Sounds of cutting and the breath to remove wood dust. xD
I agree, no music, or not that kind of annoying music
I didn't need the sound of the "music" OR the cutting or the blowing off of the shavings, so I simply turned the volume down and enjoyed the video....simple!! Beautiful job!
This woodcarving skills are outstanding! Great job man and greetings from Germany
To see a carving so exquisite come to exist, little by little, starting from just a few pieces of wood thrown together, is just priceless. Some of the best of content one can find on KZhead. Thank you.
Thank you for watching. That's a tremendous comment for me!
My favorite traditional Japanese wood carving tool is the power drill.
I just love the artisans with the old school hand tools & all of the fabulous highly developed skills that it takes to maneuver around & achieve the effects of light & shadow that really make a fine carving !!!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
I absolutely love the depth in this carving
Thank you!!
Beautiful work. I am a woodcarving teacher always in search of new techniques and inspiration. This video has done both. It gives people a very small idea of the time it takes to create hand carved pieces. Art like this is expensive, because of the time and skill of those who make it. I was looking forward to buying some of the gouges you were using. Then I realized the yen to USD conversion = $75/tool! I guess I will just stick with my Pfeil (Swiss) gouges and won't be adding any Japanese tools just yet. Thanks for sharing your art.
Ah! The use of the "feets" to secure one's material whilst keeping the hands free to work their magic...the sign of a truly accomplished, and skilled craftsman. Bravo, my good man. Most impressive, most insightful.
You are right, and the use of the feet is important👍
Modern translation ( like how you hold that there with ya feet) lol jk
As much as the art, the quality of the tools used was just as impressive. Altogether just amazing.
Thank you😁
I know right! I love nice very sharp tools. The carving is nice too :)
It's a wonderful blessing to witness this creation be brought to life by such skilled hands. Thank you for sharing your artistry with the KZhead community. Stay safe and be well.
Thank you for your kind comments.
What an amazing and beautiful piece of art. The time-lapse of the creation was one of the most incredible and interesting videos I've seen. I will certainly look closer at this channel.
Thank you very much. The pace of posting videos is slow, but I hope you enjoy them.
who could dislike a video like this? its exactly what it promises and still managed to further impress me with the detail and craftmanship of this piece.

What an amazing work. I love the way you used the grain of the wood to show the curves and directions of the carving. What is the wood you used please? Fantastic video, thanks
Thank you so muchg👍 This wood is cypress.

Just wow, that is a gorgeous drawing of a dragon
Gracias. Se subirá un vídeo mejor.
Beautiful work and a pleasure watching you carve in such amazing detail. Thank you ( ... but please consider changing the background music. It really does not match the theme of the piece or the methodical work required to produce such a beautiful piece)
This was so incredible and beautiful, it actually got me emotional. Amazing craftsmanship!
Thank you!!
Every detail is very meticulous, showing perfect skills, congratulations
Absolutely stunning in all its glorious beauty. So amazing to watch. Such a talented artist. 💜
Thank you so much👍
Something tells me that using a drill isn’t traditional 😂. It’s stunningly beautiful. Great job! I wonder what it would look like with a light stain and polyurethane
Thank you for sharing your work. Your patience and skill were wonderful to watch.
Thank you for watching!
Your cutting knives are exquisite and razor sharp. I was wondering if you could make a video at one point of your Japanese sharpening technique, which I'm certain is also a long held traditional and rare art. Thanks for showing us your work, it's truly inspirational!
Thank you so much. I already have a video on how to sharpen, but it is in Japanese and there are no English subtitles. I will try to make a new video on how to sharpen again.

Every time I watch a carving video. It makes me want to run into my own workshop and get to carving! No matter who I watch , I'm always reminded of the wonder of working with wood. , there is something magical about the process. Truly love your work and the medium. The feel of knife to wood , the sounds of the cutting , so immeasurably enchanting . , And the balance and flow of your work. ,your beautiful clean lines , the inverted and outer rings of water and dragon.. Truly a stunning piece ! The torture is really horrible however , in that I cannot find similar hand tools here in Canada as you are using , I've many the tools I need and make use of . However many the chisels you are using I certainly would find more uses for ! Many such are exactly what I'm looking for , of which the quality and designs are not found here . I'm currently working on a piece where I've been wishing I had more fine and smaller bladed chisels and gouges with the designs you have present . . Both the shape of the knives and handles I know can result in greater control . Can you sir ? ,recommend a company of which I could look into sending a request too ? I would appreciate this . I have to say again that this was a real pleasure to view you at work! You make me wish to be finished my current projects so I can get to new ones ! However I'm not one to rush my process. Masterfully Carved ! I thank you for sharing and inspiring . You have reminded me the quality of attention needed to carve. And the need for attentive completion and quality if clean cuts. I am grateful .
The carving tools I use are made in Japan and most of their makers are small sole proprietors. As far as I know they do not sell online so it is difficult to buy from overseas. You can sometimes find old used carving tools on eBay, so please check it out. Older carving tools generally cut better than modern ones.
@@JAPAN-WOODCARVING yes , some of my favorite tools are the ones I received when first starting . And many such, similar makes are not as good at keeping a working edge.
I was just recommended your channel and being me I couldn’t pass on watching it. Beautiful work. And very calming to watch. This might be an ignorant question to some, but as I have no clue of the ins and outs of this art, how does one rectify mistakes, for instance in a particular peace with so much detailed, if maybe one went in a deeper than expected/wanted, would you change the design or just work around it? Or is the another way if maybe the mistake is severe enough?
It depends on the case, but basically it is handled by changing the design. If the mistake is too big, it will go to the trash.
Oh I see. Thank you 🙂
As a woodcarver myself, this is amazing. Your skill puts me to shame. Much respect!
😄👍
That was an absolute pleasure to watch. Your skill in creating the varied texture is priceless mate. Thanks for sharing. Take care as Nd keep well.

Beautiful work by a true craftsman and artist.
This came out insanely beautiful 😮. Well done 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you!!
A stunning piece! How long did the piece actually take to make? And what wood was used? It looks like a type of pine, but I can't be sure. Thanks so much for sharing this! Really beautifully done.
Thank you very much. The production time is about two weeks. The wood is cypress.
Wonderful craftsmanship - the result is magical!

@@JAPAN-WOODCARVING you’re welcome 🙏
The sculpture already lives in the wood, only a master knows how to remove the superfluous. My deepest respect for their skills.
Thank you for your comment!
Beautiful work. Great video. Love the format. This was fun to watch.❤🎉 What kind of gloves is the artist wearing? Those look easy to work in. Thank you
Exquisite!! I really love watching you work out your vision 👍

No music next time no sped up scenes, just skip ahead. The carving is the best sound! Great work!
My Grand Father used to make things out of wood, if you couldn't find him in the house he was at the back of the garden in his shed wood working. There are not many artisan's in the world today who can do this kind of carvings. The Japanese people hold on to many traditions which i think is a great idea. New equipment and laser printing, 3D image printers make things much much quicker but for this man doing wood working and carvings are part of his heritage. honestly i prefer the old ways of carving this is a magnificent piece of art. I love Dragons and to see ancient carving that blow your mind on how they did them. this is magnificently done and done the old way. A very talented artisan indeed.
Thank you, and I'll do my best to produce pieces that have value that 3D printers don't!

Wow. Amazing. What type of wood is that and how many hours did it take you to make it? Also what are those chisels called?
This is cypress, and about 2weeks. Cisels is called 'Nomi' and 'Chokokuto' by us.
Amazing work. Where can I get those chisels, any links? Thanks and do keep carving.

Watching you make me miss my father. He was craving for statues for more than 60 years, he learned from my grandfather whom came from Guangtung China in 1889. Their work can be found all over southern Vietnam temples mainly in the Chinese districts or where most populous Chinese are. Hat off to you Sir.
I want to be like your father and grandfather, I will make more woodcarving work in my country. Thank you tell me nice your family's story!
@@JAPAN-WOODCARVING I will certainly be waiting to see more of your beautiful work. By the way, the dragon design in this clip is very beautiful, and the dragon expression is very lively, it’s very important to show that expression for a mythical figure in cravings. After we settled in California, my father continued his work for local temples and restaurants in Southern California, that’s when I got older, and helped him design the dragons for his work. My father retired about 20 years ago, and passed away about 11 years ago. I see my father as a legend. I now keeping his craving tools, as I also retired last year as an aerospace engineer, I may be picking up my father’s craving tools, to start my own craving work. I will be watching your videos. Take good care, have a wonderful new year to come!

absolutely incredible, beautifully crafted. brilliant concept. beautiful piece of art. may i ask why you did varnish or rub with wood oil? it would so enhance the chiaroscuro of the curvings. (i’d love to be able to have one of these. 🐉
So what's the 'traditional' name for the cordless electric drill-driver? ;-) Kidding aside, this is really remarkable work. It's always an amazing experience to watch someone so highly skilled executing a new piece. Full props to your skills and thank you for sharing this on video.
I guess "伝統的(Japanese language)" and "traditional" slightly different nuances. Translated into English, though, it would be "traditional".
Wow, that was very enthralling to watch! Very nice detail and time spent! I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to learn that and successfully put it into practice. Well done.
Thank you so much!!
