Viking Ship Drakkar Miniature - Popsicle & Bamboo Sticks Tutorial
Hi guys. This is a video tutorial about how to make a Viking ship (Drakkar) out of popsicle and bamboo sticks.
Drakkar was the ship which prevailed on the northern seas during the first millennium, travelled from Scandinavia and floated over the waters of Iceland, Greenland and North America.
We will need:
• Canvas
• Toothpicks
• Bamboo sticks (1 mm) for the oars
• Bamboo sticks (2 mm) for the deck and the hull
• Bamboo sticks (0.12 in - 3 mm) for the mast
• Twine (0.4 in - 1 mm)
• Hardwood sheet for the deck
• Popsicle sticks (4.5 in - 11 cm) for the supports of the deck and the dragon’s head
• Popsicle sticks (6 in - 15 cm) for the keel, the stern and the prow
• Popsicle sticks (8 in - 20 cm) for the shields
• Wooden cubes (0.4 in - 1 cm) for the supports of the deck

Wish my hands could do that. I used to be a mechanic. I miss working with my hands and welding. Used to modify bikes for disabled riders some too. Trouble is my hands don’t work too good anymore. Nice work. I always admire work done by hand.
Reminds me a lot of what I used to do in my childhood. Gives me an idea of what to make. Although most major nations in the medieval period did build naval vessels. But naval warfare then was centered around boarding the enemy ship.
Started watching at 2am in an insomnia spell and was enthralled, then the green tape hid all the skewers and I kept saying "Why did he do all that work to just hide them???". Turns out I was irrationally mad over painters tape. LOL Great job!
Me too!!!😁
Well, thanks for giving me an awesome idea for something to do with my daughter . Definitely won’t have the same fit and finish as this, but I think she would have a blast.
So, did you build your little boat with your daughter? How did it turn out? Inquiring minds want to know!!!😁⛵
Wow that's scary but impressive. What an undertaking. The sheer work you put in is incredible 👏. Not a corner cut. Ever piece was build and shaped for a specific purpose. Well done
Thank you !!
Amazing work. Details amazing. Love your work. Thank you.
Beautiful work!
You are the boss in simplify processes. Kudos!
Πολύ δυνατή δουλειά! Περιμένουμε τις επόμενες κατασκευές σου!
I am happy there was no superglue in viking times or we would all have spoken norwegian. Also I will never look at bamboo sticks in the same way as I did before this video. Great stuff.
Perfectly executed with the skills of a _CRAFTSMAN_ and the patience of a _SAINT_ Well done! 😎👍🏼
Thank you very much !!
@@MagicStick Instant sub for you 👍🏼
the music alone deserves a thumbs up!!
No, but taste is different. ;-)
Wow, That is an incredible build.
Thank you
Indeed
I make combat-ready viking shields for reenactors and I loved the detail on yours, they have the same paint as my own personal shield.
Wow!!!! That is so cool. Nice job.
Awsome craftmanship you are and srtist.
Great craftsmanship! Amazing. I was only dreaming of making a greek warship with popsicle sticks like this. Didn’t even think of studying about the structure and rigging, though.
Thank you. Stay tuned because a greek ship is coming soon
Que belleza!!!! Dios bendice tus manos!!! Tus trabajos hablan de tu paz interior GRACIAS XMOSTRAR LO QUE HACES!!!

GOOD JOB, MASTER! THANKS FOR VIDEO!
Beautifully crafted. I wish i had a ship like that 👌👌👌🎖
It's good making gear from what you have on hand
The craftsmanship is very flawless. I'm again inspired of your work.
Thank you !!
Oh Wow! ...Since the beginning of the pandemic I have been building the ships "The Black Pearl" and "Queen Anne's Revenge" based on plans, scenes and images, although it has been difficult because I cannot dedicate myself full time due to economic circumstances. This art is majestic and I would like to be able to dedicate my full time to it.
Lindo ...maravilhoso....parabéns....continue....arte é arte...
That is an amazing build! Thanks so much for sharing!
thank you
I just completed a double-hulled Polynesian voyaging canoe (48 inches bow to stern) from scratch and hand milled and hand carved all the wood and was trying to figure out how to make the tillers and oars.....and here you are with the bamboo sticks which I also use in my projects! Great job and thank you for the inspiration.
My brother was a sailor in the French Navy, posted in the South Pacific in the late 60s. He brought me back a beautiful little model Polynesian outrigger made by locals. It's name is "Bora Bora", like the island he bought it on. It's one of my prized possessions! Cheers!
Great job. Congratulations.
What your doing is fantastic.Popsicle sticks and narrow wooden dowels to build a model Viking ship from scratch.Great imagination and wonderful craftsmanship.I really enjoyed your video, thank you for sharing!!!
Τhank you my friend !!
amazing job! :O just gotta say though, never heard skewers referred to as barbeque sticks before.
that's is a awesome build, really really nice work ;-) please make a viking longhouse, that would be pretty cool. many many thanks for showing and please keep up the good work.
Thank you. The Viking house is in my plans
I have seen such a detailing of miniature viking for the first time. Keep it up. Your work is wonderful.
Τhank you
Una joya, pero, también, un alarde de bien hacer y paciencia. Me quito el sombrero. Un 10 👌 👍 🇪🇸.
Gracias España
Beginning with the main deck instead of the keel and ribbing makes the whole project much easier. Counter-intuitive to what I have seen most of the time. The ship type makes it possible so I guess a Drakkar is probably the most beginner friendly project for an aspiring age of sail modeler.
Thank you
Una bella obra de ARTE. thanks for sharing
👏👏👏👏👏👏Espectacular el trabajo y dedicación.
Very, very nice!!! Excellent video!!! Thank you so very much for making and sharing this!!!!

I'd sand down the skewers oadd filling inbetween first - so it look more plank like. Totally thorough 3 day project. He's not shilling! Free info.
Master work with minute details and accuracy.
Τhank you !!!
Friend can you please share drawing of this, project
I didn't use any drawing except the deck. You can find one easily at the net
Extremely impressed. I build models all the time, especially sailing ships clippers, wind jammers Galleons, fighting sail . I will just have to do do some research and get supplies and build a few big frigates . I have to keep my mind busy or I’ll go bounce off the walls. Great video show a some more please?
Thank you. Honored
Couldn’t see where this was going until 12:20, but now I’m impressed!
Whew! Thought that pencil was going to be dangerous-good thing you wore protection 🤪

Trutly an impressive piece of work. I've ordered some soft wood, and I will try it myself next week. With a few differences of course. I will use these long coffee sticks, instead of skewers for hull.
Send it to my IG (description)
