[Update] Follow up video on settings: • Apple Vision Pro: Work...
The big question: is the Apple Vision Pro worth it for remote work?
How much is the Apple Vision Pro? It starts at $3,499. That's expensive, yet still more affordable than the Apple Pro Display XDR, which starts at $4,999.
www.apple.com/apple-vision-pro/
Here's my follow up video on display settings: kzhead.info/sun/q9aHZNtln4CqbIk/bejne.html
Finally, can't wait for people to start making more "working with the Vision Pro" video. I was searching for them and taught it might to to early to find one of those videos then I found this. People want to know what to use it for not just what it can do
Paid video.
No need. It’s so tiring on your eyes that it’s unusable for long periods of time
I used it for 6 hours and am still recovering after 2 days
This turd of a product is going to die fast, don't count on it :P
I'm disabled and looking for ways to work from bed - this may just have solved the problem. Thank you!
"free-range worker" is a hilarious term
Good old grass fed, never frozen free-range worker
Free mason?
He's an organic, free range, grass fed worker
Slowly but surely turning into the ppl from Wall-E 😅
My thought exactly 😂
I'm thinking "Minions".
@@stopgeorge you're right!
It's obvious that Apple should have prioritized productivity as a critical feature of the Vision Pro from day one, enabling a multi-screen workflow. For example, users should be able to open multiple apps and windows within those apps on the main desktop view, as the leading computing is done wirelessly. I hope that a firmware update, Mac software update, or the next iteration of the Vision Pro will provide such a feature-rich experience. Imagine opening Final Cut Pro with the monitor on one side and all the editing tools on the other, so there's no need to switch back and forth between the two workflows. It would be even better to move some favorite tools in spatial space in front of the video as we make minute adjustments.
I think it's a feature that's definitely going to be there
I doubt they didn’t consider this, so maybe it’s something they’re planning to include later and it wasn’t possible to deliver a smooth experience while streaming numerous Mac windows as of now?
+ 8k instead of 4k
From what I have heard, it has something to do with the VP's rendering ability. They prioritised the display's clarity, which is rendered in VP rather than on the Mac, as is the case with Airplay. I am surprised they didn't dedicate a chip for this so as to boost performance, but I suspect this will be a significant feature of series 2. Unfortunately, Apple loves to gimp its products to elongate their release timelines... You also have to consider that if Apple decided to focus on screen sharing, it could have been misunderstood as a glorified monitor and not a new kind of 'spatial computing'. In that sense, they have bolstered themselves from that. However, unless Apple is able to bring the performance of a Mac to the VP, it is going to be limited to iPad-like capabilities which sucks.
Everything it is on one visionOS update
In addition to the 4k macbook pro monitor, you could also use other vision pro native app (microsoft word, excel etc) in other windows
Been watching these avp vids all day and yours was the best quality and most calm and honest presentation,in my opinion, very well done.
true but he never talked about anything other that working from your laptop nothing else
@@cesramm1120Congrats, you figured out the entire, and clearly stated, point of this video.
@@cesramm1120 thats... literally the point of the entire video
Agreed!
I love the “calm” (but clearly psyched!) enthusiasm in this video 🤩 Thanks Brian! Would love to see a followup of you trying more stuff out and simply reacting to it. Let us live vicariously through you! Greetings from the currently AVP-less UK!
You can AirPlay from your Mac to your Vision Pro for audio playback
that answers my question
finally someone who uses it seriously. thanks for this amazing review!
Awesome demo! The bed/lying down work case sealed the deal 😎
Great point its versatile where you can use vision pro anywhere beach, office, hotel, in another country. With a better display that iMac desktop display with allowing u to use multiple screens and enlarging each in thin air. Absolutely revolutionary especially as the tech gets better and the headset gets lighter
I like the Apple Vision Bed concept 💪 you are awesome
Hands down the BEST video I’ve come across on the Apple Vision Pro! I’ve watched all the ‘well known’ KZheadrs and this video of yours crushes them all! You really hit the mark in terms of answering the burning question of using this for work, especially for editing in FCPX. Hope to see an even more in depth, deep dive on using FCPX with AVP. Subscribed! Thank you for sharing such informative content!
Totally. The high end KZheadrs don’t have normal knowledge worker jobs. I use two computers and three screens at work at my office, including a 43” LG monitor. I could seriously see replacing that whole setup with a Vision Pro and a MacBook Air, and I can take that setup with me wherever I go.
I believe the blurriness you’re talking about is foveated rendering. It only sharply renders what you’re looking at, which is perfect for VR, but for us on a screen looking at a recording it is a bit odd, we can see where you’re looking.
Yes...
That looks spectacular ...amazing! I was debating if I would get an Apple Vision Pro. However, after watching your video, I am definitely getting one. Thank you for posting that video. Greetings from Australia.
I'd be wary, not all the reviews have been so uncritical of the headset. It does seem like it has many of the shortcomings of a first gen product which he fails to mention
100 percent . I’m in Australia too and I can not wait . Thank you too . I’ll be getting this ASAP
If you want it for work then maybe it is worth it for you. But the FOV is less than the Quest 3 FOV, which is disappointing for something that costs $3000 more.
@@dtz1000well I own one and it’s not that critical as people make it out to be, you forget about the fog pretty quickly and the display clarity is just night and day compared to the quest 3
@@its_Vlad I don't think the FOV is critical either, especially when the display panel is that good. It's just too expensive for me and it's not Steam compatible. I can wait six months for the competition to release their own micro OLED headsets for less money.
Thank you, Brian It is probably the most useful review on KZhead with all the use cases I really wanted to see about
Thanks for this practical use video. Thats why I bought it. I look forward to using it with my Wacom tablet. My physical monitors are 49” Ultrawide so this would be most beneficial on the go.
This is so cool I love this Apple Vision. It's kinda like when you feel it and see it it's like a dream.
As a remote worker, I REALLY appreciate your story here. My AVP arrived on opening day. I own an Apple Studio Display. You may have inspired me to create a video comparing my Studio Display to the AVP. BRAVO, Brian!
Do you find it too heavy to work in?
Thank you, this is exactly the type of use case I've been wanting to hear about. Is the Vision Pro capable of being a full remote work-from-anywhere device.
Great review! How’s the Vision Pro for colour accuracy? Can you actually trust it to do video or design?
Bruh, this is the best video I’ve seen on the Vision Pro. You spoke directly to me. Great work!
Deamn this looks crazy I want one and it is. 🔥🔥🔥. The only downside. They should of had add the latest M3 chip
So cool, nice vid man! Thanks for sharing
Excellent video, exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Remote IT engineer, thinking of how this device can streamline my workflows. I look forward to your follow up videos.
I'll be looking forward to hearing your update about this is a few weeks. subscribed!
Seems like a great work environment. Can you install any of the apps you have on your laptop, that you use for work like maybe zoom, on the vision pro?
I appreciate a review that starts with one sentence long story short in the instead of ending with the conclusion
A few things: * Foveated rendering only renders sharply what you're focusing on as your peripherals don't see hi-res. This is a big part of how it's so fast. * Thank you so much for doing a practical use video like this! Comparing it to a pro-level monitor makes total sense. * Is your house an A-frame? It looks like it from the inside and, either way, I gotta say; nice house!
Can you close the MacBook lid? What about connecting hdmi simultaneously with using the headset? What’s the frame rate like? Any latency issue?
I use parallels on my mac to work on a pc for my work, so even if you need to work on a non mac and have your company control your pc you can still use the vision pro for work.
Good review! Looking forward to hearing more about how the weight works after more use.
11:45 It seems to have quite aggressive dynamic foveated rendering. Makes sense as running panels like that is not easy. This is one thing i was curious about, do they use DFR or not.
Best review for the reasons some of us are looking at reviews for, hands down !
I’m so glad I got the 14” MBP Max M3 instead of the 16” now. I edit/colorgrade all the time & the smaller screen was harder before, not now.
Great video! Do you think it’s doable to get work done on it without connecting to a Macbook? Like maybe just using an Apple magic keyboard and mouse and no laptop… That would be the real game changer for remote work or else it’s just another thing to have to set up. Edit: I bought mine for working during travel. I use all Apple products except Macbook (I use a windows laptop)… I have an Apple magic keyboard, but now I’m worried I’m going to need to buy a Macbook too now to really get the full benefits of remote working…
Is possible use like 2 or more monitors? As a developer it is essential to be able to use 2 or more monitors not only to have a large screen in front
Can your laptop be put in clamshell mode while casting to the Vision Pro? How close do you have to be to the laptop/ how far away can you be from your laptop?
One of the best videos I’ve seen on the product so far
I think the ergonomics that virtual displays provide are worth the extra cost, especially if you're used to using a laptop without a monitor set up.
Thanks for this topic
Great review. This is genuinely game changing stuff. I’ll be waiting for the 2nd gen but wow count me in.
How do you get pro-level processed audio into the Vision Pro to use with Personas? Couldn’t Personas be implemented on iPhone & Macs? Can you use your Persona in Zoom, WebEx, Teams, Slack? Can you use it on those apps running on your Mac? When will Vision Pro support multiple macOS virtual monitors? Is Immersed going to be the way to do this?
I'm building a cabin in the woods, on a lake. The views are stunning. I've been working remote for 25 years in my own business. I had always planned to seamlessly transition my work from home to the cabin all throughout the year, but this takes it to another level. I was looking for this EXACT kind of review. I think I'm going to take the leap. Brace yourself for pictures of me, sitting on my lounge chair, on the dock, in my bathing suit, with a Vision Pro strapped to my head, and my laptop on my lap. It's the ultimate re-invention of work. And then I can take this virtual office into the car (if I'm not driving), on a plane, to my bed, to the deck, or back to the dock. One question ... I wonder how Vision Pro works with Zoom?
Best video I’ve seen. Please do a follow up video ASAP on weight.
Great vid. My only reason for buying this would be for productivity with my workspace. Single mac view is a bummer but im sure multiple windows will come and then im sold. This seems promising
68k views so far! That's incredible. Keep posting Vision Pro content!
I like having the main screen connected to my Mac and put safari, Apple Music, Notion on different windows to the side of me using the vision OS apps. This was a great review I don’t know why more people are not making videos on this.
exactly what interests me, and with nuances that others don’t talk about.
thanks for the video on the topic. i wonder if zoom has an app that can you use the virtual you in meetings 😀 this will be amazing once theres some sort of virtual keyboard.
Can you do dual screen with it? How many "monitors" can you create using the laptop + vision pro?
as a radiologist it would be great to report RM imaging! how's the quality: sharp and clear? thanx
You should be able to change output sound to the vision pro in the sound settings on the expanded display from your macbook
Can you do a video on: productivity apps (zoom, any others), how do you record what you see on apple vision pro.
Great use of the Apple Vision Pro. Can't wait to purchase one if it comes to australia, although there's a few things i'd like to see added to the Vision Pro that in my opinion would make it better! 1) To have 2-3 external display extensions from a mac computer, opens up professional multi-screen workflows and applications 2) To be compatible with a Mac Mini, apple vision pro would be a fantastic multi-display with e clean desktop 3) To have menus appear on your hands when you look down at them 4) To work better in low light situations, from what i've seen you need to be in a well lit room
Yep, same here. I’d want some ability to create multiple displays and arrange them how you want. Then it becomes very compelling in small workspaces.
I was surprised he didn’t show this, but besides the mirrored display, you can actually open 10 separate safari windows/apps and use them with the trackpad and the keyboard of the MacBook; which you use to mirror your display.
I just ordered the dev kit right headband with usbc I hope it add some external device capabilities
Great perspective. This review was different than the rest - authentic to real world use 👍👍
Thanks for the useful review! The value add for me would be large or multiple monitors to see multiple files while I code. I use Ubuntu so I don’t know if this is possible yet. Also I don’t think I could get past the fuzziness outside the field of view.
You should set up the Persona system and experiment with using the teams or zoom ipad app to still have your webcam. It's a incredibly compelling use case.
It's a bit disappointing that it currently doesn't support multiple monitors or at least an ultrawide monitor. I and most people I work with uses at least 2 monitors, often 3. 1 large 4K monitor at 16:9 doesn't quite cut it. I've tried using a 50" 4K as monitor and it wasn't nearly as good as having 2 x 27" 1080 monitors even if the resolution ok the 4K in theory should be almost equivalent.
will it work with mac mini
For someone with Lazy eye,If you have lazy eye, you can change settings to use your one eye to track and point , you won't be able to see 3d well like normal site & if you switch eye it will try to focus
Is it actually possible to use vision pro as a laptop only with a keyboard and mouse? Without a macbook?
It’s awesome to be excited about this new tech
Congratulations for making a really functional, product and interesting video that really helps, I hope you have many views.
Really awesome review man. I started to regret working with Microsoft XD after watching
These headsets are just a bit too heavy for this use case. A few versions down the road when they are just a pair of thick glasses.
Thanks for making this video. This is exactly why I was so excited about this product. Its my ability to work from it. I dont care about most for VR sturff out there.....the Apple Vision pro is just different. Glad im not the only one buying it for the sole reason to work from and maybe watch some content with during down time.
The micro oled display is just low volume and expensive right now that Apple threw everything they can on this device. Whereas, the glass implementation by Xreal and Rokid is the most sensible where it allows passthrough for cheap and without the huge weight and huge cost. During pandemic, I got an idea what if I replace my TV as monitor with VR. During my search, there are indeed people who used VR for remote work but of course no one did it permanently for many issues.
I totally agree with you.and very few reviewers have put it in the way you’re saying it. I think maybe a Magic Keyboard and might be enough for some tasks? But with a MacBook I would need a second screen that’s the feature that is missing perhaps. Multiple screens not only from Vision Pro but from the Mac or allowing to combine the MacBook screen with the virtual one simultaneously because anyway the Mac screen is good? But yeah i know a better solution would be multiple simultaneous virtual screens from both Mac and vision
You can use your laptop and have the volume come through your AVP, you have to go to settings then go to sound and click on the AVP
Can you have more then one Safari window in the Apple Vision Pro
I use Remote Desktop app to connect to my windows machine from my Mac. I’d like to see someone try that
Hey man, thanks for the review. What happens when you're not on the same WiFi as the MacBook? Are you able to connect to it? If so, is it fast enough?
They have to be on the same wi-fi.
So can you create additional extended Mac screens to simulate more than 1 monitor? That I could see is compelling.
Not currently. However you can open other Vision Pro/compatible iPad apps in their own separate window. So as developers start to bring their apps over, you can have them all in a separate window along side the virtual display. And your keyboard and trackpad work across all of them, not just the virtual display.
I wonder will it let you connect to apple tablets
Love the Apple HiFi. I still have mine.
That's really cool review! Like it
Can u change the resolution of the Mac screen? Having an 8k 60 inch screen will be nice. But this is not possible without loosing quality. Also 4k@120hz RGB 4:4:4 use about 26gbit over hdmi 2.1 how can this been transferred over WiFi to the vision? So what whe see are always not native! Onother thing: Don’t buy the Apple Display XDR, I had one. It’s too small and does have the dirty screen effect!
Brian, question: when you get full immersion mode, can you still see your keyboard and computer? Or you have to dial it back down? Does it detect what you are working on (say you have a non-laptop keyboard around) or you have to dial down immersion ? In Meta Quest 3/Pro, you can using custom passthrough to keep being 100% immersed while working and seeing your hands and keyboard (I am using custom software, xsoverlay and steamvr for this), I am considering the value proposition, if it can actually do that it's a major selling point.
I can see my hands, but not the keyboard or computer with full immersion, so need to dial it back a bit. Hopefully they improve that!
@@BrianFrey1 Thanks for the feedback! That's unfortunately a bit of a deal-breaker for me, but they could solve it fast if they implement a simple app in their app store that automatically acts like a Meta portal. If I had more time I'd try to see if their SDK allows for it... If any dev out there wants to investigate that please let us all know!
@@whitecanid8938 curious why that’s a deal breaker?
Thanks for great video. Does it connect to iPad Pro please?
No. But it can run most iPad apps natively.
Any thoughts on Vision Pro vs. Xreal Air, Viture, and the like?
I have Viture and have seen people withthe VIsion Pro struggle with having something like a youtube video playing while they walk around. It seems it stays in place unless you hold it and "carry" it with you? I was walking my dog today and watched a video for work very well with the Viture. That being said, they're still very different products and are difficult to compare in my opinion. I'd compare the Vision pro to my Quest 3 before the Viture or Xreal Air. Won't be long before they have this for the Apple masses starting at $1500 with some features removed. Casey Neistat said it best, "this will be the worse Vision Pro Apple ever ships". Of course that makes sense, so this price is crazy for what you're getting right now for the average consumer IMO.
For the price... I was hoping to been able to have at least 2 or 3 monitors available, that was a missing opportunity for Apple. The weight is not a problem, I use a Quest 3 which is about 100gr less but I'm using an extra battery so it's probably the same weight now.
Man it needs hdmi or some sort of video input. I wanna stream my PC games on it!
If they can make use the f multiple Mac monitors then it's a killer feature . Maybe that will be the next 4000 usd upgrade next year
I totally agree with the premise of this video. Nice work! However, the only limitation, which isn't that bad, is that the amount of "pixels" for the mirrored desktop display is 2560x1440. That's not bad. I currently have the Apple Studio display which can be 5120x2880. I love all that pixel real estate, but it's almost too high for the 27" screen size. I wish the resolution was larger for the VisionOS desktop mirroring. It'd be really nice to have 5120x2880 in the VisionOS to scale to any size, taking advantage of all those pixels. But 2560x1440 is not bad, it'd just be a couple notches better to have the option for more pixels on the mirrored desktop in VisionOS.
My remote work Mac setup uses three 27” monitors so VP wouldn’t work for me. Also, my Mac VPN apps and remote-control apps don’t run on VP.
How about Remote Desktop connections?
Thanks for doing this specific type of review! Do you know if it requires wifi for the display streaming, or can the VP connect to an MBP via ad-hoc mode or something? Does anyone else feel like if a lot of people are using this functionality on planes the amount of traffic/noise over wifi and bluetooth is going to be crazy and the quality of the connections will be compromised for everyone?
It’s ad-hoc, just like Sidecar (which I suspect is a byproduct of the Vision Pro’s development).
Thanks for the video! How’s the interaction with Safari in VisionOS working? Is it possible to move objects in browser by hand? Is that possible to draw something by a finger?
Yes. It can detect “taps” and “touches” as if you were using an invisible iPad. I mean it’s possible in that the system has the input for it, but I probably wouldn’t try to draw on it though. Then again, I’m a terrible artist and without that haptic feedback you’re sort of moving blind. But it’s perfectly functional for navigation.
Someone mentioned it on another video but headless MacBooks are about to become a bit more popular as pairing them with a Vision Pro seems like a perfect combo and MacBooks with broken screens go for cheap.
Does every app inside the mac (like slack, teams. Xcode or VS code) stay in that single window? Can’t we take it out and place it outside like photos app ?
No. It is just streaming the Mac screen
The viewing experience had me sold since the keynote, I really wish that by the 2nd Gen version that they create a wireless bridge/dongle that you can connect by HDMI your devices that can take advantage of that headset display. Imagine playing PS5/Nintendo Switch on the Vision Pro? Waiting for that day 😤😤
probably the best vision pro video out there
Several of the apps you brought up n your Mac are actually available as apps. You can open up more apps and save the Mac for the more powerful applications that don’t operate well as apps and it would allow you to have more windows.
Wondering why the picture quality low or just the recording low quality? It’s not that quality and shaking alot
I really want to see someone try Jump Remote Desktop and connect to a windows PC
Wanting to find a video regarding lens fog, I find it a big problem on Quest 2. Does it have lens fog when first being put on?
Whether or not the lenses fog up has to do with the fit of the headset on your face, so it’s different for everyone. I’ve never had anything on my face fog up, from safety glasses to VR goggles, but others have it constantly. You’ll have to try it for yourself.
