  • It's probably been said a million times before , but the main problem with guessing the ELO without knowing the time control is that 1500 rapid is the equivalent to something like 1350 blitz and even less in bullet. So in game 1 Levy really isn't far off at all if he assumed it was blitz. Really, Levy ought to know the time control before making his guess.

  • Two corrections for you: First, the 2.f4 move order is still the Grand Prix Attack as demonstrated in Hodgson and Day's book on that opening circa 1980. Second, Bc4 is the optimal placement for the bishop when Black commits their d pawn too early with ...d6. If they don't commit the d pawn before White moves the bishop, THEN it is best to play Bb5.

I used to just play rapid until 6 months ago when i was stuck around 1300 and decided to play some bullet for the lulz. After over 1.5k bullet games I ended up at around 900 elo where i still am today (peaked at a bit over 1k though). I then went back to rapid and peaked ~1600 and actually stayed there longer than i thought i would but dropped back down to 1500 recently. so yes, I usually only play rapid and not bullet and my peak rapid rating is 1600 but that doesnt mean that my bullet rating in the video was total bs. id say over 1.5k games is enough for 900 to be pretty accurate.

Range: You start in like that you'll get clocked. Start out. Find range with the in with jab steps. Drill that a lot first. Proper shoes would help. Power: It looks like you are timid. Using all arms instead of committing with the body. That hook is your power. You step in correctly but gave up. Put your weight in by pivoting hard. Stance looked good and basic ideas were there. Most players didn't know the line, take the free pawns which then allows white to be super aggresive on the queen side, while maintaining a strong centre. It's a cross between the Wing gambit & Smith-Morra gambit.

If 2...axb5, then 3.Rf4 and I don't see how the player with the black pieces is supposed to stop 4.Rh4 and then checkmate on h8 right afterward. There is a way to interpose a move that stops white from playing .Rf4 (.Qh6 first though, like he said in the video) and it's ...e5, but now .Bc4 and to .d5 next (.Bd5) and the bishop sits in this little nook left after the earlier ...e5. • I’m curious if anyone else has the same experience as me. I’m over 1800 rapid and can’t even crack 1600 blitz, even when I play 5+5 which is very similar to the 10+0 rapid that I play. I’m not sure if it’s just a mental thing for me or if there is a gap there for everyone else. The 1500 rapid player in the first game for example, would then be around 1300 blitz, which would make much more sense. Maybe I’m just going crazy though. Thoughts?

    @evanmuir6586@evanmuir6586 Жыл бұрын
    • That's opposite of me, I play at 1600 blitz, but rapid and classical progressively get lower. I do analyze but the moves are mostly instinctual and only rarely do I find an actual better move with more time (I'm quite sure and stockfish agrees that there are better moves but I just don't find them) so for me the longer time controls only help my opponent.

  • At 2:30 after Bg4, pinning the knight to the queen, it seems to me that the mistake was playing Qd2. I hate playing h3 to "kick the bishop out" because, although I like when the bishop takes the knight (I take back with queen creating a battery on the f-file) and I like when the bishop retreats, BUT I hate when the bishop sacks on h3 opening up my king. I get into this position all the time. What is the correct way to handle it. Perhaps stopping black from playing Nd4 in the first place?

    @tylerharrington4515@tylerharrington4515 Жыл бұрын

  • I'm 1500 and I hang pieces like in Game 1 all the time. That's why I'm not higher. Edit: Honestly, I think Game one is a perfect representation of chess at that rating. If you don't blunder or miss "clear ideas" like Rg6, then you're playing at a much higher rating. At 1500 all you need to do is try to win a pawn and trade pieces to win the end game.
