  • My mom measured my brother and myself on the inside wood trim of the closet door. My parents sold their home when I was grown. A couple of years later I realized the measurement of our heights was gone forever. Its been 39 years and its the only thing I wish I had from my childhood. I say all this to remind everyone to put your kids heights on something that can be portable from house to house ❤

    • Same here, except we did it with our kids. We actually had to paint over it to sell the house. I never had thought about putting it on something moveable because I never thought I'd move. 😢

    • Oh, I feel this! We, stupidly, measured our 5 kids on the side of the fridge we got as a wedding present from my parents...20 years later we had to upgrade and sold the fridge...I have soooo much regret about that one...

    • My gram did it on the wall next to the pantry and then painted the kitchen but left the marks and painted around it lol. I’m a graphic designer so I designed a chart for my son and printed it on fabric so I can take it wherever we move. I like that it’s fabric because I can fold it up to move.

  • I have a peace plant that has never had more than one flower at a time. So I bought some fake peace lily flowers and stuck them randomly in the pot. Not only do they look good enough to fool a casual glance, but they inspired the plant. Right now it has three of its own flowers. Also, I have a vase my husband made in art school filled with blue and white flowers that match my livingroom. For Valentines Day, I ditch the blue ones and add real red flowers. For Memorial Day and 4th of July I add the red flowers to the blue and white ones. Much less expensive than buying all reals.

    • I have many real flowers in our garden and sprinkled within some fake ones. The fake ones have our neighbors always taking a second look. One of our neighbors loved the idea of adding fake flowers. They now have added a few to theirs.

    • Make some kind of note for the back about where the items came from. Instant heirloom. My maiden aunt collected dolls her whole life. She had so many of them, but nobody was interested, because they were "grubby." Well, yeah, she'd had them on open shelves until she'd gotten newer ones, then they went into old suitcases. I took as many as I could get to before the house auction guy got hold of them. I learned how to restore dolls, bought acrylic cases for them and made a bio about her for the back. Everybody got them for Christmas that year. I love it that Aunt Margaret won't be forgotten.

  • I wanted a wooden map on the wall but decided instead to frame a cheaper 2'x3' map on foam core board. I use push pins to mark where friends and family are. It is my prayer map. I stop and pray for countries in the news or folks in harm's way (e.g. from storms), etc. It is not the beautiful map on the wall like you have, but I wanted a prayer map, and now I have one.

  • Our local fire department, which is a volunteer one, has three women on it. They are various ages and at least one is more a medic role, so it's not over until it's over. I always tell people to never screen yourself out and it is not the end, but sometimes just a chance to reflect, rebuild and start again. Good luck. You're starting the process is more than most do. Wishing you continued success.

  • It's so crazy you're talking about fake florals. I live in Florida and you'd think with all the rain & sun it would be easy to grow stuff here. NOPE! So I ordered fake plants in Amazon and if they look real enough I am planting those puppies in my front garden bed! All my parents and grandparents have/had green thumbs & I could kill even plastic pants. 😂 Your urns look beautiful!! Also I'm so impressed with you trying out to be a firefighter. Good for you!! My parents raised me with that mentality but I've been burned by reality. Hearing you say you looked around and realized you're out of your depth but you're going to keep going as far as you can is one of the most badass and awesome comments I've heard from someone. • I have a wall ruler!!! I need to repaint the numbers and measurements-I used tempera paint instead of like a white oil sharpie paint marker or a more permanent paint. But I have my kids’ measurements on them from their birthdays every year for the last 17 years. Each child is a different color. And they remind me if I forget to measure their height. I LOVE the idea of adding grandkids to the measurements, too. I’ll have to do that when I have grandkids.

  • OMG I was just looking for simple-ish home DIY projects. It’s like you read my mind!! 🩵 Another idea - Get a 5x7 frame for each family member & print off the state they were born in (like the old school, atlas type state map) & put a tiny red heart in the city they were born in! We’re a military family & everyone was born in a different state. It’s a super simple project & looks great in my entry way!

  • Hi Cas! Great project ideas. Thanks. I am glad that you got a little reality check about the fire fighter thing, however, please don’t let the age thing stop you. I was an older woman when I started. Older than you. The physical conditioning is very important though, so lift weights and get your body in shape. Just a note…sometimes people will “look” in good shape but have no endurance so don’t let how people look deter you. Go for it!

Thank you for sharing such fun, easy, beautiful ideas. 💜💜💜 A quick easy way to clean artificial plants 🪴 and 💐 is to get an aerosol can of the cheapest can of hairspray. I had a gallery wall in my kitchen for many years. It got tiring to look at so I’m down to fewer frames. I’m going to wallpaper one wall in my bathroom makeover this summer! • Great self-reflection on your firefighter journey, Cas! *And* I'm confident you can figure out what you need to do to achieve your goal, even if you don't get there right away. I just went through something similar. I auditioned for our symphony chorus without doing much prep, after 15 years of not singing. The audition was terrifying. Thought I wouldn't care if I didn't get in. Turns out when I didn't get in I cared. A lot. So I got a voice teacher, practiced, and when auditions came up again I did the scary audition and risked rejection again ... and I got in! It's even more meaningful to me to be in the chorus because I had to work hard for it. 👍🏻

  • If you have some crafty family members, recruit them to help! My kids and I just made some wall decor this afternoon. We painted some box frames to look like the shoreline (with two shades of blue-green for the water and a tan/sandy color for the beach) and then glued on some seashells we had collected from the beach on top. Each person had a different technique for the painting and shell arrangement, but the colors and overall theme tie them together really well, and I’m pretty sure it only took about 30 minutes (minus waiting for stuff to dry). 😊

  • I’m doing week long projects. I’ve just made a skinny bedside cabinet on castors so I can move it easily to make the bed, a large firewood box on castors for winter (I can wheel it to the front door to fill instead of having wet feet on the carpet and reduces slipping on floors) and also making a wood shelter for the garage so the wood is dry before bringing it in and it’s closer to the front door. Also made a long desk for my bedroom and put shelves underneath for the modem, power board, keyboard, etc. Doing these has made me feel so much more in control and calm in my home knowing I have exactly what I need, in the size and shape I need. The other year I made custom boxes for under my bed which held nearly 3 times the amount the nearest tub container size. Game changer for Christmas decor. Also put DVDs and CDs I’m keeping into plastic sleeves o take up 1/3 of the space they did. 😊 I’ve photoshopped old family photos of architecture and landscapes for art and framed them for art. Took out all tech in them and people, made them either black and white or watercolour so they look timeless and have variety. They look awesome. Most have cheap frames, (larger ones are custom) with custom mats.

  • Cass, I really LOVED this one! Well, I love them all, but this one really struck a chord. First off, I love watching all your DIY ideas, but never feel they're for me. Maybe because my house was always such a wreck. But you've helped get almost my entire house back under control (except hubby's office), and now I'm wanting to pretty it up. I plan to try ALL your ideas! I really liked the rope wreath!. But what really touched me was the fire fighter story. I'm in my late 60's and my body has betrayed me, but I used to do crazy delusional stuff, too! Like sky diving over Okinawa. When it was time to jump, the island looked like such a tiny target surrounded by water as far as the eye could see. QUITE exciting. You go for it girl!. What I can't understand, though is how you're willing to run into a burning building, but you won't jump out of an airplane???? Love you, Cass. You keep doing you.

  • I am a rock hoarder. I have a rather large collection of both special specimens and the little tumbled rocks that you can get at just about any national park souvenir shop. What I started doing for both storage and decor of the tumbled rocks is to fill up pretty jars with them. They add a nice bit of color and interest to many parts of my house and they don’t take up much space. For the special ones, I mount and label them inside shadow boxes with clear covers to protect them. Some contain lots of specimens and others contain only a few. Like the jars, they add color and interest to my plain white walls and neutral furniture. To be honest my house looks like a geology museum, but I’m pretty happy with that.

  • Your firefighter story is so fun! Here is my delusional story: I tried out for cheerleader in high school and it was obvious that only those with tumbling skills would make it. Well, I got it in my head that if I wanted to be a tumbler bad enough, I could overcome 17 years of inability to do the simplest thing. I couldn't do a basic cartwheel. I wasn't even close! A friend tried to help me for several hours. All I did was trigger a sciatic nerve issue and I could barely walk for a week (and it comes back on me occasionally). I still tried out and waited all night for the current cheerleaders to show up at my house and kidnap me (their way of letting the girls who made it know). They didn't show up! I had even cleaned my room! I went to school the next morning and was mortified that the girls who made it had been kidnapped and I wasn't one of them! Delusional! But I have 2 granddaughters who can tumble, so I didn't pass my tumbling disability to all of my posterity!

    • Oh my goodness, so glad you didn’t do it!!! The miracle of life is to love life, please try to do everything possible to love life and little things in life and avoid everything that wants to convince you otherwise. Everything that wants to convince you otherwise shows you it’s the wrong path, the wrong thoughts, the wrong approach to life. There will always be solutions to everything, even more than one usually, we just have to find them. But most of all - find those things and moments that make you love life! All the best for your healing and thank you for staying alive!!!!! Stay alive, for sure it will all become better again, for life goes in waves!!!

    • Whatever it is you're going through, there's always light on the other side. Sometimes it can be hard to see the path through the darkness, but you just have to keep trying. You WILL get through it. If you're ever feeling low, you can call or text 988 in the USA for a listening ear and a helping hand. Stay strong. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

  • Love the wooden wall map! I will be purchasing that today. LOVE...LOVE...LOVE... especially marking where you have been! SO cool. Love your channel. I incorporated these little tricks years ago to keep the house clean. I had 4 kids at the time and I immediately came to the realization that they out numbered me! Each of the kids had a task on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Things like cleaning the baseboards, vacuuming, wiping down the light switches and door handles, dusting... those tasks that don't take long and relatively easy to do. I had a schedule on the wall where each child knew their task as to not have them arguing on whose week was what.

  • Seeing your growth chart made me smile. My mom marked my girls heights in the inside of her hall closet door all their lives. My father just sold the house this summer, Mom passed away 8 years ago, and we took that door down and brought it home before the house was sold. I’m taking the door knob off and it’s becoming decor in my craft/play room and we’ll mark my grandchildren’s heights too. I do love the idea of using thrift store art to make new pieces. We’ve lived in our house over a year and it looks bare. I do have a gallery wall of family pictures and a poster size print of my favorite family photo from the shoot we did last spring but not much else. Shelves might be next. You always have such GREAT ideas and your energy is contagious!!! You truly are my favorite KZheadr!!!

  • You so can be a firefighter! I joined when I was 45! Busted my chops learning everything that I could. Went from being claustrophobic to crawling through tubes BLINDFOLDED carrying an air tank on my back breaking down walls and going through a maze.So yeah you can! It’s all about what you want to do not what others think you can’t do. Also I drove semi’s too. 😂 because I was told I couldn’t do it! Bah showed them!!!

  • Regarding firefighting: somebody has to drive and operate the apparatus (fire truck), and in many volunteer departments, those people are often the people who may not be able to physically do as much, but they are absolutely essential none the less.

  • Thank you for your inspiration. Your videos have helped me so much. I have always said if I can't do it right I'm not going to do it now so I just put things off until I have time. I have been taking care of aging family members and now that they are gone and I have more time on my hands I'm ready to do all the things I put off, but at the age I am now I can't do as much like I used to. The other day I started cleaning my bedroom and I could hear you in my head saying just do what you can just dust, vacuum, or do anything, you don't have to do it all at once and it kept me going until I finished it. So thank you again for all you do you are great!

  • All learning / training is useful Cass. New knowledge never goes to waste. Maybe Firefighting is for you or maybe the whole process is to lead you to another path yet unknown to you. Let your strong desire guide you. You'll figure out as you go what is right and what needs a course correction. We don't know what we don't know. The drive is obviously strong - that says something. See where it goes. If it's meant to happen, it will. Your enthusiasm is infectious! In a good way ;) You are absolutely inspiring P.S. Just for fun, do a Myers Briggs Inventory test. The full 800 questionnaire. It is a useful tool to help you see what jobs / careers you are not only attracted to but which ones suit your personality.
