  • I'm pretty sure the people you bought the house from had to disclose if the house ever flooded and it sounds like they had to have an issue also. Definitely worth checking into. Of course weird weather events are unpredictable.

    • Yes about needing to disclose. In the U.S. you would have recourse against the seller to cover some of the cost to remedy, i.e. french drain. Not sure about Canada. Good luck, Cas, with figuring out a solution.

    • Wow! In the US it’s illegal for the developer, seller and realtor to fail to disclose something as consequential as flooding on the property. That cannot have been unknown to the property developer. It would result in a huge lawsuit here.

      @marygueldenzoph7317@marygueldenzoph73178 ай бұрын

    • They bought a house in a floodplain. This is not an issue with the house; it’s with the location which they were aware of being a floodplain. Anyone buying in a floodplain or anywhere should have emergency preparedness plans. It’s unfortunate that Cas went through this so quickly after buying the house, but hopefully they will be better prepared if or when it happens again.

But someone I know with multiple degrees and a prestigious career told me she was thinking of cleaning for money when she retired because she LIKES it and wanted something to keep busy and make a little extra! Mind blown! ; - D I also have a friend who finds cleaning satisfying who supported her young kids while she was in college by cleaning houses because it was flexible and paid better than other jobs that don't require a degree. You never know if paying someone to do what you find difficult might just be an important blessing in their life!

I would see if you have such a document with your paperwork and/or if you were supposed to have such a document and contact a lawyer and possibly your realtor accordingly.

    • Angela Brown’s channel has THE BEST videos on cleaning blinds and cleaning baseboards. She has lessons for 1st time, deep clean and then maintenance cleans- so you don’t have to do deep clean.

    • Get a TineCo vacuum mop- you mop and vacuum at the same time. Say you spill a bowl of milk and cereal- just pull out the Tineco and it’s vacuums and cleans it all up and the same time. The Tineco will tell you when the brush roller needs cleaning and when the clean water tank is empty and when then dirty water tank is full. It works on all types of floors just not carpet. PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS so you can maintain the machine to last the longest. I have the top model 7S Pro- it cleans right up to the baseboards on each side of the roller. it has quick 3 minute self cleaning cycle for the roller and tubes and a big 6 minute self cleaning cycle. It’s cordless and lasts about 45 minutes per charge. It gives you a visible ring that changes colors to let you know where the unseen dirt is and will automatically increase cleaning power. You still have to empty clean the dirty tank. I also extra clean the roller and roller cover- I have dogs.

      @Mushkiepotamus@Mushkiepotamus8 ай бұрын
    • I also have one of these and it is absolutely amazing. Why do your floors twice when you can just do it once. Also so much cleaner. With a mop you are just moving the dirty mop around and it spins so fast its so much more than one pass over with a mop. The best invention ever.@@Mushkiepotamus

But after having my kiddo and running my business at home etc it's not working at all, I try to start and get derailed way too quickly either by my own lack of focus or by my kiddo, or whatever random life thing that comes up and then it gets completely dropped for too long until repeat yikes lol!

It cleans as a wet dust cloth as well as the micro fiber cloth for windows, mirrors and I’m sure it would work for glass shower doors. I don’t have glass shower doors so I can’t say for sure. Nothing compares to cleaning windows and doors with them. You just use water and no product. Try them, you won’t believe it! My husband is always the skeptic until he cleaned windows with me.😁

    • I don't think FlyLady fits in just one category. She has daily stuff which is more of a flit around cleaning what needs to be (hot spots), in some ways she has tasks by assigning each day a task, and then the zones are monthly for the deep cleaning. I personally don't like the FlyLady system because it about killed me when I had 5 little kids. I felt like all I did was clean and change diapers. Now the idea of doing her system is still overwhelming. I have about 15 minutes then I have to rest for 2 to 3 hours. If kids didn't do the dishes, then I do the dishes in that time. In my second 15 minutes, I get to work on whatever "weekly task" I have up next. If I'm lucky I get a 3rd 15 minutes to work in a zone decluttering or deep cleaning.

      @SheilaEnglish2@SheilaEnglish28 ай бұрын
    • Yes! I bought the 30 pack of microfibers from Walmart's automotive dept. so I could keep in the bathroom for this particular reason and it is THE BEST! They soak up water sooo good. Great for when my kids treat the tub like the waterpark, too! Then I just hang it over my faucet to dry when I'm all done. We keep a small fan that sits on the counter because our ceiling fan doesnt work, and point it directly into the shower and it helps dry all my towels and keeps the mildew smell out. Highly recommend the fan even if your vent one works. It goes into the bottom linen cabinet when it's dry. Also, I keep all my dirty microfibers in a sack in laundry room until I have load of them. As they don't need much soap to wash, and you're not supposed to use heat at all on them so it usually takes 2-3 hours in the dryer with no heat.

So I’m like, “what am I supposed to be doing? Oh let me look at the list.” And I pick something small like wipe out the microwave or throw the sheets in the wash or clean the toilet. And I do it as quickly as possible and sometimes even time myself. It’s been SUPER helpful. You are so hilarious and I relate HARD to this video 😂❤️

Fingers crossed we are at the end, we do love the house and we are enjoying the beauty, but for sure PTSD.(the other night I heard the sprinkler go off at an odd time, I assumed a water main break. I run around, hubby assures me he changed the sprinkler. And yes hurricane hit here within 3 weeks of move in, I so get it)

I spent years taking shifts having to shop vac puddles out of my basement every time it rained until I could have a french drain & sump pump system put in...and now I have water in the wall because water started collecting elsewhere. Good luck, friend 💜

  • I use my own checklist. It doesn’t matter what day, what time, etc. So long as everything on the list is done once a week (minimum). This way, I clean whenever I have time, and the list keeps me focused and tracks the to do’s for me. If I can’t get something done done one week, that’s the task I’ll start with the next week. And yes, I include monthly and biweekly tasks in my weekly list. I just check them off on my future week lists whenever they’re completed. Which makes me feel accomplished when I start a new week that has several items already checked off as completed. 😊

I think what you need is a sump pump. You should also have a generator for when the power is out for an extended time, and an extra sump pump in case your current one breaks.

  • Also, I've tried the task master style, but get discouraged if i miss a day. Thinking about trying a task looping system so no matter what day it is you just go on to the next task on the list. Would love to see a video on that type of cleaning for people with really unpredictable "schedules"😅

    @pinguina75@pinguina757 ай бұрын
    • That is EXACTLY what I do! I have my tasks broken down (i.e. my list isn't just "bathroom", it is toilette, sink, mirror, bathtub, floor, then it is each part of the kitchen - appliances, counters, dishes, etc.) - I do this for each room of the house. So, my 20 minutes a day is just going to that room and checking off the tasks. If I don't finish that room that day, it moves to the next day. For my brain - if I just have bathroom on my list and I don't have time or energy to do the entire bathroom, then I won't even start it. So breaking it down into manageable tasks helps me tremendously. So, that way I'm not stuck to a certain day of the week. My tasks just rotate. Once I get to the bottom, I start all over. 😁

  • I used to do daily jobs such as you did in your video when my kids were little and I was home all the time. I had different daily jobs, and then ended the day with a kitchen clean up, house tidy etc. I also found that I needed monthly, seasonal and yearly jobs as well, just to stay on top of things. It was so handy to have a 'checklist' of sorts to go by, to remind me of what needed to be done. Now that I'm older, work every day, I pretty much just clean up only what shows as untidy. My house is too big with just me and my husband. One of these days I will declutter my house to a smaller one.

While standing squeegee across the glass. Then repeat for the lower part of the glass. Hang your squeegee back up inside the shower. This works on tiles too.

  • I do what I might call the "Work When You Can" system, where I like to keep a list of all my chores which need to be done regularily but not daily, like vacuuming, dusting, cleaning kitchen appliances, etc broken down into groups based on their average time, so 5, 15 or 30 minutes. When I have 5 minutes, I look at the 5 minutes column and do the next "available" task on that list, and then I never have to waste time to think about what needs to be done, where to start, how long has it been since I did [x] chore. Once everything's been done once, I wipe it clean, start again from the top. If for some reason one of the tasks takes longer then the time, then it's ok, 5, 15, 30 mins is better then nothing. It'll be done again in a few days, when time permits. Depending on how busy life is sometimes it takes longer to get through the list, but I never feel pressured by a schedule. It does take a reasonable amount of self discipline to get off the ground though. It took years for me to be consistant with doing a task instead of wasting time on my phone for 5 minutes. But now it's just habit.
