MacBook Pro Battery Not Charging? Quick Fix Now!

In this video we discuss how to fix a MacBook Pro battery not charging. There are a few reasons that your MacBook Pro battery is not charging, and they can have to do with software issues with your MacBook or even hardware issues with your MacBook Pro or even the battery not charging itself. In some cases the MacBook Pro battery not charging when plugged in, there is a green light, the fan is running, not charging after SMC reset, or even when the power source power adapter is not working. Here are the reasons we discuss why your MacBook Pro battery is not charging:
1. Power cycle the MacBook Pro
2. It could be a faulty USB C or Mag Safe power source power adapter causing your MacBook Pro battery not charging
3. PRAM reset to fix MacBook Pro battery not charging.
4. Reset the SMC for a MacBook Pro battery not charging when plugged in.

  • You, Sir, are a LEGEND!!! SMC reset worked for me. I had the 'Plugged in' icon at the top when it wasn't plugged in, and it wouldn't charge. After trying the SMC reset for the second time, the green battery icon appeared in the middle of the black screen, before it powered up. After it booted up, my MacBook Prop finally recognized when a power source was plugged in or not; I had removed and reconnected it to make sure. After another 30 seconds, it started charging. Thank you for your help.

  • Thanks for the video. My MacBook would not charge and did the SMC reset and she is back up and running. Saved me a trip to the Apple store. I checked the charger on another device so ruled that out. I followed all the options and SMC did the trick.

  • I've been to may sites that suggest resetting the SMC!! Tried it a thousand times but nothing!! Your video explained how to do it really well with the "disconnect the charger then reconnect it..." Did that and now my Macbook Pro is back to its normal charging ways!! Can't thank you enough!!   • 4th options works for me with the combination of 2nd and 3rd. I’ve giving my Mac to different technicians, they couldn’t fix it after collecting money from me, one of the technicians asked me to change the board which I did and still yet it’s still not charging but watching this video did the magic for me, thank u so much, u are a life safer..   • Very helpful, but in my case the outlet on my power strip where the brick was plugged in died (not the strip, just that one outlet). I plugged it into a nearby wall outlet and it worked. I would also strongly suggest NOT trying to test a MagSafe's pins with a multimeter while it's plugged in, you can kill a MagSafe power supply this way.

  • Awesome. Option 4 worked like a magic. I looked at so many videos and tried all options.. But not sure what Im missing. I again watched this video clearly.. Then I realized my mistake. I was not pressing all 4 keys at same time. There is a 1-3 seconds gap between them.. As a last try with frustration, I tried by pressing and holding all 4 keys in option4. Viola it worked. Thank you soo much.

  • I was almost crying as my Mac air wasn't charging and it had switched off. I tried so many attempts but still it was showing 0:05 screen. Atlast I tried interchanging the wire ends and wiped them, pressed the power button and boom it started !!! Thankyou so much !!

  • Thanks so much for your tutorial. I want to let everyone know this worked on My MacBook Pro with M1 chip using the power cycle procedure described in the video. For some reason the computer got stuck at charging and would not go any further than 25%. After doing the procedure described in the video, it now charging normally and is now also fully charged. Thanks again.

  • I don't understand how you can type in the key combination to reset the PRAM in Reason #3 for example. Are you working in a browser or some app or have you rebooted into Safe Mode.

  • I have a Macbook Pro 2018 15 inch that would not charge. It has a broken screen so I use it to run a small TV set in the kitchen. I tried all the videos and articles I read but nothing. I saw your video two weeks afterward and followed all the steps the way you laid them out got all the through and nothing. I left it charged after i did the steps a second time. I started looking on my Macbook air for another computer and after about 10 minutes it just started up. I plugged it to the big screen in the bedroom and the battery is charging again and all. Thank you.

  • Thanks, Buddy you pull me out of depression 🙏 I encountered a Battery-not-Charging problem on a MacBook pro 14” (Apple M1 pro chip). Resetting SMC solved my problem: 1. I shut down mac & wait for 30 seconds and turn it on. (While unplugged) 2. Then I shutdown mac and plugged-in and wait for 2 hours but luckily before the perceived time battery reached 💯🔋

  • I had a very similar issue on a 2020 Macbook Air M1 that after a logic board replacement, I had the "Service Battery Recommended" and would not charge when on power adapter. It would remain at 1% and when unplugged, would die. I remember I had a USB-C Pro Drive (made by Satechi) and I connected it to the usbc ports on the macbook and connected the charger to that and it immediately started charging and "service battery" message went away. I allowed it to charge all the way to 100% and then unplugged it and has held a charge and will now charge when I connect the charger to its normal usbs port.

  • @Know My Tech i have tried all the options but the battery wont charge. it was holding 2% but now it has drained to zero. however when i plug the charger, the light which showing charging status on macbook (not on the charger) is blinking to indicate that the power is coming in which seems like the charger is okay. If you have meet a scene like that please help

  • I replaced the battery and maybe it’s possible that I left the cable unplugged, do you think that’s it? I tried resetting the PRAM and I don’t think that it gave me 2 boot sounds. As far as the SMC I tried that too and it wasn’t that either.
