In this video, we go back and break down the greatest debut in NHL history. On October 12th, 2016, The Toronto Maple Leafs squared off with the Ottawa Senators in the Battle of Ontario. In that game, a rookie named Auston Matthews would completely shock the hockey world.

  • I remember tuning into that game to mainly watch EK as he was my 1 pick in my fantasy draft. But I also took a flyer with a mid-to-late-round pick on AM, since he went 1 in NHL draft. I remember coming away from that game very impressed with Matthews, and was so happy for his family, but I saw so many lil things I liked about Nylander and Marner, and immediately added them to my fantasy squad. So much talent, even if this team wins a cup or two, people will wonder why they didn't more and sooner?

All this and the fact we're seeing players on the team that may eventually become the best the franchise has ever seen. I really can't complain.

I lived in Edmonton during the good years, it's true the fans were spoiled and the building was quiet. They'd make noise if the Oilers ran up the score to 8 chanting "10, 10!" Funniest joke ever? • I had the misfortune of moving to Toronto in 68 and immediately drank the KoolAid. It's like an old girlfriend that just keeps breaking your heart. This list is short and in no order. Tavares is paid too much for what was expected. Zach Hyman to Edmonton why? Mike Babcock and Brian Burke were supposed to be the second coming of Christ. A 41 year old Joe Thornton signs a one-year $700,000 deal for what, his beard? Most importantly we just can't hang onto great and young goalies. Curtis Joseph and Grant Fuhr were into their 30's when they came here. More recently why did we let Freddy Anderson and Jack Johnson get away? It never ends.

      @dicksonfranssen@dicksonfranssen9 ай бұрын
    • I agree with all that but the loss of Kadri was due to him being suspended two playoffs in a row. He then went to Colorado and was suspended in the playoffs again before finally winning the up with them the next year. But I really liked Kadri and wish we would have kept him instead of getting Tavares. He is a great mix of skill and grit. He did dumb shit at times but so did Darcy Tucker and the fans loved him. Those early 90s Leaf teams didn't win a cup but they often went deep into the playoffs and most definitely didn't get pushed around.
