He plays great he has the heart of of a lion but each and every time somebody throws the moniker of the greatest he points out being amongst a great team. For anybody to waste time trying to make sportsmen role models is unfortunate. Some work hard and rise from poverty and use sports for upward social mobility. Some are naturally gifted and enjoy the pureness of playing at the highest level. Statistics and awards are one thing...how a player performs is another... That he is doing things others have never done is nonsense. He is doing what Diego and Pele have done. He finally has a World Cup and if he is to be as great as many wish to saddle him with, let him show the durability of Roger Milla who played World Cup football for Cameroon at 38 and 42... Pele won 3 World Cups... R9 2 (yeah 1994 he didn't even play a minute not even a second) They said Messi was not up there as the greatest because he never won a World Cup. R9 and Ronaldinho won them and many club and FIFA honours. Yet their Statistics are overlooked. Tossing around superlatives seems to be the trend these days but for me... I am neutrally enjoying his playing and work ethic and style, grace and panache along with his recognition that football is a TEAM sport!

People dislike Ronaldo mostly due to petty jealousy because he's a good looking guy with ;ots of money, fast cars and hot woman, both are great player and someone can point one as having done something more than the other but i will say that Ronaldo is more versatile as he also scores a lot of goals with his head, he's also been successful in every team he's been in whilst Messi has only ever played in just the one surrounded by great players. Lastly Ronaldo playing for a fairly average Portugal raised the team on his own so much so they won a major title whilst Messi playing in a powerhouse national team like Argentina has won nothing. Can we just agree both are greats and an argument can be made for both, i think they are of equal greatness but until Messi wins a world title Maradonna and Pele outshine him..
