    • Pride didn’t test for steroids so he fought mostly steroid/based life forms there. In UFC he kept getting g fed to people that would pop for steroids after their fight. In one case, a fighter was exempted from pre-fight testing by USADA and immediately popped for PEDs after the fight. But he was a warrior and kept throwing f hands regardless.

  • Silva was so scary back then, especially as a Middleweight in Pride FC. He was a savage in the UFC as well at both Middleweight, and LHW, but in Pride, he was the best pound for pound fighter in the world for a long time in my opinion even compared to other greats like Cro Cop, Rampage, and Noguiera. At that time, Pride FC was every bit as good if not superior to the UFC. Hunt is one of those legendary mma fighters as well. Hunt was one of those guys that nobody wanted to see across the ring from them, accept Silva because Silva is a madman. Hunts kicks had leg breaking power, and he could shut your lights off at any moment, and his striking was excellent. Hunt became even scarier as his grappling improved. His grappling never got to an elite level offensively with submissions, but he got to the point where defensive grappling was no longer a weakness in his game. Even before his grappling improvements, Hunt was so physically strong that he could get out of a lot of tough positions with pure strength, and instinct on the ground. Hunt reduced Ben Rothwell to a exhausted mess of a fighter, and Ben Rothwell was a really good grappler, and a very strong, and huge man, yet Hunt completely dominated him in every way after the first round despite all of the disadvantages. Hunt could have easily been a champion if a few fights went slightly different. He fought the best, he beat the best, and he lost to the best.

    • Hunt came from Boxing and K1 same as Cro Cop. They both were kickboxers fighting in real mma... That's why they had special rules fights ala Wand vs. Cro Cop 1 etc. Because their ground games were next to nothing... They both were naturally strong and as time went on they eventually became MMA Fighters..im not disputing what you said im just adding to it so if noobs are checking the comments they see these guys had actual real deal fights against monsters before ever coming to UFC.

  • I notice lots of ppl saying they thought Silva won, but are you guys aware of how Pride style judging worked? It wasn't like the UFC, where it's a 10 point must system and the fight is judged round by round. In Pride, they judged the fight as a whole, with heavy emphesis on damage done and effort to finish the fight. So if you take that into consideration, you'll see why Hunt won. At no point did SIlva have Mark in trouble or did big damage. Mark on the other hand, did all that to him and even when Silva took him down, he could never really stay on top cuz Mark would eventually escape or reverse him. Now if it where UFC judging, Silva would have won for sure just because of the takedowns.

    @jefft7705@jefft77053 жыл бұрын
    • @rockn roll Yh. Lots of ppl and especially new fans of the sport don't really seem to know how Pride judging worked. Silva fought well enough to survive, but not well enough to win this one. All he really did was lay on Hunt and even then, he couldnt keep him down. Had it been UFC he would have won though...they factor in td's way more than hurting and dropping guys. With the amount of td's he scored, he would have probably won 2 rounds to 1 in UFC. But yh Pride was different.

  • A good matchup, against any other oversized fighter Wanderlei's natural aggression would have evened out the difference, but as low key a fighter as Mark was, the amount of power he generated was phenomenal. Not just the punches but his kicks, and ability to stand with Silva's weight not anchoring him down. In the second Crocop fight he throws a lightning fast spinning back kick, Hunt had a very deceptive physique. He carried a few extra pounds, but underneath was pure steel and his ability to recover from any hit was legendary.

    • Yes, Silva fought well, but he didn't win in Pride judging terms. Lots of ppl don't understand how different Pride's judging system was. They judged the fight as a whole, mostly based on damage done and effort to finish the fight, which is why Wandy lost. If you look at the fight from that standpoint, you'd see why Mark won. Wand never had Mark in trouble and the most he did was lay on him and even with the td's, he never could really stay on top cuz Mark would eventually flip him over. Mark did the real damage in the fight, which is why he won besed on Pride's judging. Now if it where UFC judging system, Wand would have likely won. But yh was an amazing fight for sure.
