    • Right? I didn't realize the 8 Pro had symmetrical bezels until I watched this video. I know it's a small detail, but for me symmetrical bezels add a little bit oomph to the overall design of a phone. It's almost as if the designers really wished to leave no detail untouched, which is great considering we're talking about a $1000 phone.

  • I know this was an early thoughts video, but I do see this Pixel 8 Pro as an upgrade. I'm coming from a Pixel 6 Pro. When I bought the unlocked phone from the Google store, I traded in my Pixel 5. I compare the price of the 6 Pro to this year's bundled deal from Google for a new phone with significant features + a free Pixel 2 watch. But time will tell if that's true once independent reviews come in. I'm excited. Great video.

  • I think maintaining software support is important of course for security, but also in terms of keeping it fresh. While hardware gives a new tactile touch and feels new… so can a new case and a new software update. Software updates give new features and just keep a device interesting (not just for phones but devices in general).

    @chrissolace@chrissolace7 ай бұрын
    • Very interesting take! So far, my opinion has been: 'why don't they just provide patches, instead of OS version upgrades. OS version upgrades bring about too many problems anyway'. So more in line with Win XP + 7 years of patches, or Win 7 But your comment makes me think that OS version updates are also part of keeping the device interesting, and therefore making people hold on to them longer. Truly appreciate your post.

I know some people who didn't buy Motorola phones (I think) despite being interested because of the tiny 2 years of software support back in the day for example. I wish LG had had more software support, didn't squander the potential of their phones after the LG-G4 (say despite being a G5 owner) and was still around to be a competitor to Samsung for example. • Not to mention that with each upgrade, there's likely a touch of planned obsolescence in terms of performance-the device might introduce new features at the expense of performance. Based on what I've observed with the Pixel 2 XL, I believe that in 7 years, this phone will be considerably slower and the picture quality won't be as sharp as when it was first launched.

I tried out the 15 Pro Max this year thinking its size and weight improvements would make me feel otherwise, but nope. Returned it and went with the smaller 15 Pro, which still has plenty large 6.1-inch display but is simply much easier to grip and use with one hand. Really wish Google could take a page from Apple and offer its Pro model in two sizes. I've heard that's what they're going to do with the Pixel 9 Pro next year so here's hoping that's true.
