He is able to deliver his narrative when on screen very well, and he doesn't do it by cutting a lot of takes together like many other KZheadrs. That, plus the quality of his no-nonsense, pretty unbiased, content makes him a really stand-out tech reviewer.

  • What I like about this is that Dave brought up the 60Hz refresh rate issue on the base model, plenty of tech reviewers gloss over it like it's nothing. That's one of the most important factors which influence buying decisions.

    • While I do agree 120Hz ProMotion is nice (and even saves battery life on average), most people don’t care, as reflected by the buying statistics. Many people don’t see the difference unless pointed to it, while the very generous brightness or the dynamic island (and its functionality) are much more noticeable to most people.

Even 3x zoom is a lot to work with and you have to move farther from the subject. In case of 5x it is going to be a lot of problem in such situations. Ideally, I would have preferred that they kept 3x on Pro model by adding additional lens, but Apple being Apple will do in in coming years. One major update per year.

  • Regarding the more 'agile' feeling Pro models - there is definitely a reason they feel better than the absolute weight reduction. Most of the weight reduction was achieved around the very outer edges of the phone (i.e. the frame) and this brings the overall weight of the phone down but also concentrates the weight in the very centre of the phone, so it feels better balanced. Kind of like a mid-engined sports car vs a more conventional car with weight at the front and back, even if the overall weight of both are the same. The whole thing spins and moves around better because all the weight is right in the centre. Hope that makes sense. Looking forward to handling one to gauge the feel.

Even comparing to Pixel with its large block, Pixel feels much more balanced. I'm not sure if a different frame will help a lot with that. This was very unexpected as I had a muscle memory that iPhones were always almost perfectly balanced. But 14 is just really bad.

The difference between those focal lengths is significant when it comes to composition and suitable subject matter.
