We are going to be making a junk journal from an old book. In today's video I am showing you my process of choosing the book I want to use and decorating the front and back cover.
In the next episode we will choose different papers for the signatures and will continue with creating this journal!

Wow! I learn more about journaling everyday. I really enjoyed this video. I've never made one from scratch before. I am a bit of a perfectionist. I find the layering to be difficult. I'm slowly letting that go when it comes to my journaling. Just making it fun and artistically me. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, I struggle a lot with perfectionism. That’s why I’ve called my KZhead name “the Imperfect Scrapper”, because I’m also deliberately trying to loosen up my crafting and not be so perfect. Similar to you, I’ve made some projects recently that I’m using for more “free flowing” creativity. Love how your project is turning out!

You mentioned those long strips of collages and a video for it. Could you please post a link to it here? I searched through a lot of your other videos and I didn't see it (unless they were hidden in one of the ephermera making videos). I loved how you made those long strips that can just go on a page and add so much interest. I am still a newbie and your journals, particularly the botanicals/birds/butterflies/flowers related one are my absolute faves!! Love your style! I just subscribed to your channel.

This book cover is really lovely 😍🥰😍 I made my very first junk journals with hard cover books that I covered with fabric and/paint because the book cover is not as beautiful and was worried of ruining the few vintage book covers I have- along that line, I truly enjoy junk journaling and making journals because it feels so freeing, letting go of perfectionism, which I think in some ways most of us tends to be, and I thought, it’s supposed to be junk journals/journaling…The collection of books you just shared are all beautiful.

I just can’t complete anything “perfectly”, so I just do everything “vintage” and “rustic” and cover any terribly obvious mistakes. Also, I think your handwriting is very good. Mine rarely is, so again…😊

Thank you so much Lily! ❤ I actually got this gold paste locally and it is a Polish brand called Renesans, but if you search for a gilding wax or paste online, you should be able to find a lot of other brands! Before using this one, I actually used Inka Gold (which is more like a gold texture paste) and it worked amazing too! :)

It's looking amazing! When you were choosing the books at the beginning I thought the one you chose looked familiar and went to look through my stack of books and I have the exact same book! Except the colour of my book is way more muted than yours. Yours looks so bright compared to mine. What is the copyright date of your book?, mine is 1963 so quite old. xx
Martyna - Love your channel and this journal is looking beautiful. I do have a question. I want to sew on my pages like you and other you tubers do. But when I try my machine just pokes holes in the paper and doesn't actually sew on it. Any tips you could offer would be greatly apprecitated.
I have a question about the gold paste which you may cover later or in an earlier video. Will the gold paste rub off or get on other papers? Is there something you put on it to preserve it?
How do you produce such loveliness EVERYtime? This cover is beautiful. I didn’t see ANY imperfections even though perfection is supposed to be unattainable. (My husband looks for my imperfections EVERYtime. It’s unsettling so I try to not let him see my work (very stressful) but he is very inquisitive so he usually has SOMETHING to turn his nose up at. Oh sigh and oh well…🤷♀️
