This is where organizations like Reteti Elephant Sanctuary and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanages come in. They literally rescue baby animals and orphans from situations like this. They need these type of organizations throughout Africa imo.

I am disturbed that no one even tried to call any of the wild life trusts to help save this baby. I realize death is a part of life but there are not allot of elephants left.
There are many breeds of elephants so we have ALOT if them but certain species of elephants are dying off in large amounts

Especially when elephant numbers are dwindling and there are quite a number of organisations in Africa that have nurseries to care for orphaned calved. But you know the BBC, they would never let that get in the way of a good story.

This isn't sad. That elephant carcass went on to provide food and life to COUNTLESS creatures. One elephant's sacrifice, sustained all kinds of healthy animals.
If anyone is wondering why they dont help the animals, its because the cameras are far away or are auto recording so nobody is actually there, and also if they intervene it interrupts the practices of nature.

I've seen the full episode on Belgian television today, and unfortunately little Himba was so weakened due to nothing being fed properly, that he was barely able to stand at the end. The group waited for him to get better and stronger, but it got worse every day ... In the end they HAD to move to find new resources, but little Himba was never seen again...

This is rather sad, and I'm sure if the camera crew were allowed to help, they would have. But the thing about documenting nature is, no matter what happens, humans are not allowed to intervene. That's one of the hard parts about the job. Other organizations are not able to help either because the baby has not totally been orphaned, it still has a herd to live with. Whether this was filmed or not, nature took its course, and things like this do happen.

Kimberley Medina I see a lot of people in the comments arguing about what the ethics are in these sorts of situations, where a doc is being filmed, and wildlife is dying on camera. I understand why people may think that the correct thing that should've been done is to help the poor baby elephant, but think about it this way: you are jammed into the top of a rover with filming gear and supplies. You are at the start of a very long project. You see that a baby elephant is starving. What do you do? You are not a vet, you do not have room in your vehicle, the nearest vet where you can feed it anything may be days away. The calf would likely die on route, if you were not arrested or halted for poaching. (Thats another thing, you can't just bring an elephant outside into anywhere unless you have authority, or papers saying that you can. But in that case you would not be filing a natural doc, you would be filming a 'save the animals' project. ) Another thing you would have done is tranqualize nearby elephants that try and protect the baby. Now, let's say you have tranqualized one or two adult elephants, carried the baby elephant and crammed it into your vehicle, all to try and find a person who has the food that the calf is able to eat. By the way, it cannot even eat grass. Trying to do all of this would waste time, fuel, and it would ultimately ruin your project. A documentary filming crew is limited in what they can do in their filming sites. A natural doc is made to show what happens in nature, it is not a disney movie. Everybody with a normal mindset would want to help the calf. But anyone with a realistic mindset would know that in this particular situation, you just have to let it be. That doesn't mean they are horrible people. From this we should reflect on human effects on wildlife. Not only look at the immidiate problem, but what is causing a lot of the death of animals. That is more effective than just going into nature and rescuing whatever's in trouble, don't you think? I think that the most that this documentary can adress is: "This is what happens out here. Please try and help"
