Sony Xperia 1 VI Leaks & Rumours (May 2024)

The Sony Xperia 1 VI is expected to drop in two short weeks with a Sony announcement expected on May 17, and a Docomo announcement set for either the 15th or 16th. What do we think we know about Sony's upcoming flagship smartphone? It's getting a major overhaul, that's what, switching from 21:9 to 19.5:9, cranking down the resolution to 2.5K, while ramping up that zoom to a tasty 7.1x from the periscope camera.
Check out this leaks and rumours video, and I've also added a wishlist for things I want to see in the Xperia 1 VI when it eventually does drop.

  • Excited for the Xperia 1 VI? I am. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is a proven powerhouse, extra screen width sounds great for my oversized hands, and a 7.1x periscope camera means we're not getting a recycled camera system! Let's hope its price is competitive. Let me know what you think and stay tuned for loads of hands-on stuff when the phone drops. Basil

  • I never saw the the 4K screen as a gimmick. If you record in 4K, wouldn't it be logical to see it in 4K? The details isn't even lost and the screen size doesn't impact it too much. Besides, it reverts to 1080p most of the time anyways. If Samsung puts 4K in their smartphones people would go bananas and call it "best thing since sliced bread" which would be BS. You'll never appreciate something until it's gone. I just hope we get a Premium version with 4K. Even if it's at the expense of battery life, size or aspect ratio. Fingers crossed I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️.

    • You simply DO NOT need a 4K screen the size of 6 to 7", your eyes can't really tell much difference between a well made Quad HD with HDR and modern colour rendering, compared to a 4K screen. Then add that to battery life differences... Quotes like that smack of snobbery... 😒 😎🇬🇧

Ive seena lot of reviews on the 1V and im already sold. Ive had the Samsung s10E since 2019 haha. Its about time I upgrade. • 4K on a phone is a waste and totally stupid. It would be extremely hard to notice the 4k benefit on a 5.5" screen, you can't notice the difference in 4k until you get to above about 32 inches! Nobody looks at their phone with the screen 2 inches from their face! The 4k phone screen is just purely for marketing as there is absolutely no benefit in screen quality, in fact it actually INCREASES cost and DECREASES battery life!'

    • Oh absolutely, you're right. I'm saying we don't need a continuous zoom necessarily. Zoom lenses that are fixed (120mm, 5x for example) on other phones out-perform the Sony Xperia 1 V. So I'm just saying Sony may have more success if it puts multiple zoom cameras with fixed lenses rather than a continuous zoom. Hope that clears things up :)

  • MY wishlist for the 1 VI (1m6)? 1. retain 3.5mm headphone jack 2. high end audio (dac/amp). think walkman high end but in the phone.... they bragged about doing bravia stuff on their phones for screen. they bragged about doing professional camera stuff on their phones. why not include high end audio? and maybe even playstation gaming? 3. front facing speakers. I am a cripple, I use my phone a lot in bed to watch youtube/tv/movies/anime. front facing speakers are huge. ive loved my 1ii (1m2) and in 4 years only this year has the battery started to expand. so i need a new phone as the battery doesn't last at all. my phone has been off charging for 6 hours and its 65% battery (unused, just sitting on my desk). yeah not good. its bad. 4. phone color. sony white or sony grey/silver. i need either/or. I am tired of black phones. I want something awesome. sony white (psone style or ps5 white) or sony silver (typical other sony products) would be fucking sweet. and would hit the spot. the leaks showed silver for 1-VI and white for 10-VI? not bad. probably means im going silver. for me, camera isn't required. the other features are why I use it. the DSEE (AI upscaling in my 1ii aka 1m2 has been awesome. mixed with dolby atmos. chef kiss). I also love having the "creative mode" for color to get accurate colors. I never turn it off. I can't stand stock android or samsung android or other androids because its too vibrant and saturated. I like natural accurate colors. sony gives us that, at least with my 1ii.... I hope we still get that too.

Based on what we've seen, the incredible tech behind the continuous optical zoom in the 1 V has failed to take the best zoomed-in photos. All I want from the 1 VI is excellent shots at 3-7x which is my most used zoom range.

      @tech_edit@tech_edit18 күн бұрын
    • That's understandable. I have a theory that the reason the camera island is bigger depite same sensors, is they may be switching to glass elements which if the case might actually make 50mp on the main cam worth something, and the zoom much much better. It just seems silly to seperate the modules farther apart if there's no actual reason for doing it.@@tech_edit

They can keep the pro modes for sure but at this point if they want to compete with smaller sensors they need to do software tricks. You can't say stuff like this without considering the overall size and scale of the UI, you can already fit more stuff by making text even smaller on the screen.

    • I am currently traveling in Spain. The last thing I want to do is lug around a dedicated camera. A great camera on my smartphone is a must.
