Tony & Chelsea Northrup review the new Sony Xperia 1V camera. It has a new Sony dual-layer sensor that promises better low-light quality AND better quality in bright sunlight. We'll test it for raw photo quality, video (in both good light and low light), stabilization, and vlogging.

The iPhone is NOT fine with its extreme over-sharpening, red tomato face, and yellow white balance. Why is nobody talking about this?
To me they all phones look basically the same. Awful. But fine for normal people documenting their life
@@d3xmeisterThey will never ever compete with a professional camera for sure, but they are very good for taking punchy nice looking snaps and videos for social media or just capturing life's special moments. They have come a long way from the days of the first camera phones. (Mine was a Nokia 6020) Now they truly WERE awful but we loved them in the day and they did their job. Pitifully...😂😂😂
Red Tomato face' 😆 Had this same opinion on every pics that i had seen ... Now i got the best comment!
Many get paid not to talk about this. Apple has a lot of influence. So do other mobile manufacturers though.
He said it at 4:30
I gave up my iPhone for Sony Xperia and I do not regret it. The iPhone is good, but I hated the overprocessing of the pictures, even RAW photos were processed. I get better and more natural Photos from Xperia. The Menu was not a big deal because I am good familiar with Sony Menu from Sony cameras.
Same here. After the manual control of an Experia I don't think I could ever go back
I gave up on an Xperia phones years ago, after having several models the software bugs and stability issues just became too frustrating. Sony must have known this as they popped up a notification telling me to manually reset the phone every week! I moved to Samsung and then to iPhone and got fed up with all the over processing. I now carry a Fuji X-100F in my bag which produces far better images than any of these phones, I mainly just use the phone for video and the occasional snap now.
@@MrSamoDudeYou do realise that Xperia phones now are very different from Xperia phones from "years ago" when you used them? Since then the Xperia division (which used to be a wholly seperate division within Sony) has been fully integrated with audio, Alpha cameras, Bravia TVs etc.....put under new management/leadership. And the entire Xperia line was rebooted. If your experience of Xperia phones was from years ago then your information is woefully out of date and no longer relevant to the conversation.
@@Sabundy Nope, it’s still perfectly relevant. The end result is still the same, once bitten twice shy, I wouldn’t buy a Sony phone again due to my poor past experience, and a dedicated camera with a bigger sensor will still produce remarkable better images than any small phone sensor. Whether the end user would notice that difference is debatable though, especially if they’re only ever viewed on a small phone screen. For everyday snaps the manufacturers color science and processing tend to have more impact, and the reviews and samples make it clear that Sony’s is far from the best even on the latest models.
My LG V60 takes similar pictures to the Sony. Lg always made one of the best cameras.
It would be interesting to compare more RAW images from both phones, and more RAW images parallel-processed in something like Lightroom. This would show the lens and sensor differences rather than the different phones' post-processing.
THIS. So many phones are god awful when used in jpg mode but actually pretty incredible when used with RAW.
Raw on Iphone is also computational. Lots of processing and stacking before it combine to a big raw file!
@@LongCaoOfficial Well.... less computational 😂
That would be like comparing a7s3 raw vs a7rV raw, one has more mpx so clear winner but one has better noise control in low light, in summary, depends on what you need it
if I'm gonna go RAW and post-process I'm gonna shoot with a DSLR/MILC, not with a phone. I use phone to grab quick memories - I want to snap as soon as possible to capture a moment (of my daughter or anything else) and to be able to share it and I want the best possible photo right out of the box. I'm not gonna import it to lightroom and the process it and share it with the family...

I really like what Sony does with it's high end phones. The range of pro tools they offer can't be beat. And Apple really need to sort out the over-sharpening and colour science.
also, all the shadows are blue in my iphone, i always have to manually edit the photos and dial the warmth to 30-60, and so many peoples just post with that wrong white balance, usually cold, so cold images and yet somehow the faces are orange...., and they don't even realize, it has become a norm
I can't stand Apples photos. I think their colour science sucks.
@@Sabundy probably started about the time they went to Sony sensors!
@@hautehussey they're been using Sony sensors probably since before you were born, so no, it's not the sensors fault
@@angeljaimes9703 uh, no.
I had such high hopes when I saw you guys were reviewing this phone. I was expecting to see you work the photographer angle a lot harder. I am VERY interested in seeing how well the DNGs from the 1 V respond to torture in Lightroom. How much headroom is there in highlights and shadows, including if you expose for the phone's strengths? How well do the colours respond to curves manipulation? Do any of the colours clip? etc etc etc This device, with all the manual controls it offers, is clearly meant for this kind of enthusiast/pro workflows. All you guys did was just pixel peep!! Also, in what universe were the vlog test skin tones of the Sony better than the iPhone's?
Thank you Tony / Chelsea for the review. This is such a fun informative review..
This was such a calm and enjoyable video to watch. Thank you.
You would like FroknowsPhoto ASMR video 😁
before i started photography, i never thought that phones look oversharpened and unnatural. Since im a photographer, i think smartphone stuff looks absolutly awfull unrealistic :D Props for the sony beeing more natural!
Yeah, phone pics have that overly crispy look
true sometimes people feel underwhelmed when they look at pictures from a camera compared to a mobile phone hahahaha
That's the case with most people. It's why most people think and believe that the iphone camera is "the best" 😂😂😂😂. Good marketing by Apple as well as the average person's lack of knowledge about photography has convinced them of it.
All you have to do is to turn on manual mode and it will turn off most of the processing - the way they tested cameras here is just so invalid, like comparing back camera with front camera video footage. That's just insane from testing point of view
Tony’s words weren’t aligning with the examples they were showing. The Sony faces were more saturated for a lot of the examples. And a blown out sky isn’t more natural, it’s just more natural to what a normal camera would do (but not what your eyes see).
Northrup always pushes for this "Android Camera" thing and am definitely on their side, I hope your predictions about Sony's next move by the Xperia "experiment" is true.
It’s not android or IOS, Sony has real optical zoom and real colors. iPhone colors are fake and processed. It’s like eating processed food daily lol. I’ve owned Sony 1 IV and ordered the V now. It’s a video makers future
@@MR-AK you probably haven't watched their last video about Sony huh?
Nokia pureview was also going to be great.
You are the supreme hypocrites and marketing like reviews ever! How to say about Sony is bad when you have only a probe?! And how to say about Sony when you s*ck Cook's crap?! Shame!
@@MR-AK Sony 1 IV is a bit crappy
The SD card option makes my old desktop relevant again and it won't need an expensive hardware upgrade i had been planning. Great phone and will be my next, when it is released late July in Australia. Also now plan to buy a decent set of wired headphones thanks to Sony.... earbuds and bluetooth 5.0 just don't cut it for me.
Is it going to be sold in Australia? I thought Sony did not sell them in Australia anymore
I've been a Samsung user for as long as I can remember. Currently have a Note 20 Ultra. I won't use a phone that doesn't have an SD card slot. As Samsung has decided to be the Apple "B" Team, it looks like I'm moving to Sony.
@@SabundyYou can still but retailers still offer them (eBay, amazon, kogan etc)
Thank you guys for the review. Needed to hear this kind of review from professional photographers
I got my Xperia 1 V a month ago or so from adorama as well. Best phone I've ever had. Speakers, screen resolution, and the camera and video are awesome to play with. Best phone by far. Threw my S23 ultra in the drawer
Just came across your channel and wow well done good informatiin and wellcut. All the best to you too from Switzerland
Only the Audio jack and micro sd card slot is all ready a destroyer of the iPhone. If you use the best settings for the lowlight video situation I believe it will be better then the iPhone. iPhone no micro sd card slot a very important thing for creators. Iphone no audio jack a very important thing for creators, iPhone no special button to shoot and focus on objects,Sony all having it. For me I’m waiting for the successor of the xperia pro i mk2 there are rumors sony is planning to use dual one inch sensors.
Barbary, I agreed with you. In addition, the Sony camera Menu (user interface) is also better than those confusing smart phones camera menu. For camera/video users, Sony is a winner here. But if people concerned too much about quality and details of video or pictures... Get themselves an APSC or FF camera. You just can't have everything in one piece. That's why I'm owning a Samsung Note20ultra and a Sony A74 with 35mnGM.
Thank you! Great video, but can we see Sony Xperia 1 V vs Galaxy s23 ultra?
I appreciate how you two are still in the game
Super curious if Tony still uses the Sony phone the way he explained at the end. I was thinking of using it the same way. I currently use the Sony A7iv with the 16-35pz lens to capture lowrider shows. I also wonder if it could replace my A7iv and make my gear super light
Its my first time passing by this channel! its amazing what u do guys. You've got the knowledge, Good luck!
I compared the Xperia Pro I with the new Xperia 1 V. The Pro I was clearly a lot stronger for the wide and zoom lens. I think with more updates, the 1 V camera will get better (that's what I've noticed with the Pro I and the Xperia 1 ii). If they made an Exmor T 1” sensor, that would be a game changer.
Heard that the next Pro-i is coming with 2 1" sensors. Just can't wait to see it
Technically apparently there will be a Pro I Ii with 2 exmor T 1 inch sensor
@@RedstoneinventeArmoredGuy guess it's around the horizon
Bcz in pro -1 sony uses sony imx 989 1 inch sensor
Is 1V still hv this issues? Record a video a few minutes n the video app forcedto stop? Mine 1ii have that issue
What camera were they using on the dock by the water, that was amazing for video!! Anyone know??
Great video. I'm shocked to see how great the iPhone 14 Pro handles low light video. I prefer optical bokeh that the 1V creates.
I like this review as they have a low light test but do not use it as reference. Too many reviews turn the lights off and compare cameras just based on night vision. So many of us will never shoot photos or video under candle light. That said the Iphone has a really good balance for the average user but If ATT had the Sony My pre order would be in already. Gonna have to wait for the inevitable price cuts and snag unlocked version then.
Yeah, that was a huge difference. The iPhone actually looks very good in low light video whereas the Sony looks like a crappy old camera. I prefer the iPhone cameras generally but refuse to switch to the Apple ecosystem. I like every other feature of the Sony Xperia 1 V so I'm going to go with it. Hopefully some updates will make their cameras better.
love the video great video always
Thanks for comparing!
Can the Xperia be an external monitor for a Lumix s5 camera ?
Does the xperia works as external monitor with canon câmeras?
G'day Paul. ItsJeff from peter gregg can i gwt some advice as i just bought the R6 When it comes to Sd cards would a v30 be OK when shooting in 30fps and 50 fps as the v90 is very expensive to buy
Interesting video! I found myself looking more at the footage from the camera that was filming most of the video instead of the iPhone or Sony. On a personal level I think it is like trying split atoms comparing those two photos. People who get the Sony I believe know what they want, period. AS far as the iPhone I believe many people eyes are trained for that so they like that picture. Personally I take both phones since both are wonderful but when I return to my senses probably the iPhone since the phone is good and I am in their ecosystem (like a happy jail where they keep taking my money since I keep giving it to them). You video was pretty funny as well.
I noticed that too, so many people posting blue shadows from their iphone and orange faces that it became the norm, when i edited a photo i received from a friend, on spot, and dialed the warmth to +40 compensate that wrong white balance, dialed down the saturation, added more brilliance to cure orange face, and sent it back, the person was in shock, she never knew photos can look so good with her phone.... she said it looks like it was taken with a pro camera, well it would be great if they can make for this poor souls the adjustments automatically so they get better photos and its easy, they provide the editing tool with the phone, also for the video, its nuts! but people don't want additional work and spend time learning how to do it, so lazy, we are going to end-up like in the Wall-E movie
there will be other colours? i wan to buy Platinum Silver if there will be tell me please
I gasped when I saw that dead pixel on my oled in the low-light test section. Glad that's yours, not mine :)
It would have been interesting if you guys covered 3rd party android apps like mcpro24fps and MotionCam. I wanna see how much dynamic Range you can squeeze out of the main sensor with either mcpro with 10-bit log (which is limited by the real time processing of the phones ISP) or MotionCams 12-bit raw video.
Nice video. Do you have a gallery of computational photography shots taken with this Xperia versus Apple or better yet google pixel you could post? In your “future Sony cameras“ recent video, you talked about Sony, potentially adding that feature to their cameras, but I wonder how it’s really working. MKBHD seemed to say that he did not like the computational photography on Sony as much. Importantly, when he does the super big phone camera comparison every year, the Sonys always seem to do pretty badly despite their “pro” features. Whether it’s natural or not, people seem to like the processing that Google does much more than Sony. I wonder if that will change this year? I understand I can do more on the backend, but if the point of a phone is sharing immediately, I don’t necessarily want to go into a Lightroom and mess with it.
Apa sih
Will that screen work on the back of the 14 pro max? Surly it would?
Fun review/comparison. As a photography enthusiast, my main selection criteria for a smartphone is for it to take the best photos in the market at the time of purchase. I am not convinced the Sony does that, at least not better than the P60 Pro, but I'll wait for DXOMARK to have their say.
DxOMark is a consultation company. They sell advices and test kits. Product that had high score in DxOMark are those that bought the test kit and tune their product specifically to get high score in DxOMark. None of them were tuned for real life application.
None beats Sony. None.
I have pre-ordered the Xperia 1 mark V....in silver (looks great imho). This is the smartphone camera system I have been waiting for.
id like to know the video settings for that last test 👀👀
Great review! The Iphone has the double-tap on the back option to launch camera app. :)
veeeery good unbiased review
Pretty good comparison. But I think the best thing for Sony would be to add also the photo / video form the camera you are filming the video with, to show how wrong the Apple or Samsung are in oversharpening and other tricks they are doing. Edit: It's showing anyway, and you did a great job of pointing this out.
Thank you so much for your review. I have been waiting for it since Sony announced the phone. I am however a bit torn since I really like to shoot photos up close of flowers, beautiful design, etc., of parks and architecture, and lon my next vacations I will take the railway down through Europe and shoot a lot from inside a moving train during the morning, day and evening. So I have two questions I hope you would please answer: 1. Would you recommend the Sony Xperia 1 V for the purposes mentioned above? I am not sure it is a good fit after seeing the difference in close-up shot of the flower using the main camera. I would also really like a tool I can master all the details of gradually over the next 5 years. 2. Can you please tell me where I can find out more about shooting still photos from a moving train? I have not been able to find anything on the subject, whether it be videos, Blogposts, books or courses. I really enjoy your videos so thank you for helping a lot of people such as myself in navigating the road to become amateur photographers :)
If you are shooting from a train the Sony has unparalleled image stabilization - they rule the market. You also have 4K 120 frames per second from ALL lenses. This doesn't exist anywhere else on the market. For Macro you don't expect flawless results from a phone but if you do do it then your priority is Colour, Manual Modes, and Light. All are superior on the Sony. Natural colours is the most important thing in Macro and Natural Light. Sony new sensor cannot be competed with for light gather and shooting in dark scenes with no noise
IPhone is for consumers who want automatic everything. If you want to use a phone in place of a standalone camera then Sony is the only option. The phone also is the only one on the market with variable zoom- where the lenses actually move to change focal lengths. They didn't talk about this at all. Every other phone has fixed length and then uses digital zoom to fill the gaps between the fixed focal lengths. It's amazing to see. Check other videos
You can just swipe from right to left on iphone to launch the camera, no need to hold the camera icon.
idk which settings and camera app u used for the low light test on Xperia 1 V, because i never had a result looking that bad in my low light videos captured with my xperia 1 V mhh probably u were using "dynamic range wide instead of standard"
@vloging part - how can you say xperia is the clear winnner? skin tones? xperia two oranges vs overshaprened iphone i choose oversharpened
thanks, I would concur
Some very good evolutions that I was waiting for since a decade, Sony seems to finally understand what year we are. They should go further and get rid of the face cam and integrate a small built in backscreen.
Bad idea, I hope they put back face unlock
Thanks for this video. Been waiting for this. Up in the air with either buying the Sony Mark 5 or trying out a bridge camera like the Sony RX10 mark 4. No real camera experience except cell phones and cheap P&S. What do you recommend? I hike in the White Mountains/kayak in the Springs in Florida/waterfalls. Also, I bought your book about photography. Thanks
I think if you're feeling the urge to get a camera and studying the techniques than you should get a real camera. However I'd definitely recommend an interchangeable lens camera when you're ready because it's in changing lenses where you'll really see a difference from your smartphone photos.
Indeed .. it is all about LENSES I have an « old » Full-Frame with « old » tech (2012 camera with 90s tech lenses.. Canon 6D and lenses as 135mm F/2 L or 35mm F/1.4 L) but still much better than a small sensor with a built-in zoom or the latest smartphone 📱
@@TonyAndChelsea Thanks for that information. I really appreciate it.
@@TonyAndChelsea Tony & Chelsea, a previous video made the point that a smartphone is a 'real' camera. Have you backtracked? 🤔Clearly from the further comments you distinguished between a smartphone and an interchangeable lens camera, although high-end smartphones do have a limited number of built-in interchangeable lenses.
@@michaeloravecz5752From a self taught photographer, an interchangeable lens camera is dedicated for taking photos. A phone camera is a phone first and then a camera. Not to say that the overall photo quality is bad on phones but they can try to compete with the quality from a dedicated pro camera is typically better than a phone camera.
Been waiting for this!!!
5:20 the Sony looks way oversaturated (and/or the iPhone overexposed) in the Vlogging comparison, but the exact opposite is observed at 8:38 for the Portrait mode. Does this happen consistently (i.e., is it a video vs stills thing)??
It is not oversaturated in sony vlog but he just change the shutter speed rule which darkened the video a little bit to stop from overexposed and the iPhone cannot do that in the video so it is overexposed
Probably accidentally left it at VV (vivid) preset
Just got my Xperia 1 V and updated to android 14! Could not be more happier and certainly glad I did not get a Samsung or an Apple. Focus Peaking is really handy and as for S-Cinetone=wow!
I like the use of camera field monitor. Is the a mount to the camera available?
#3:03 Is there any advantages to connect the xperia to your Alpha camera over HDMI? Why don't you connect by usb? I like your video by the way.

REALLY AMAZING AND INTERESTING VIDEO AS WELL AS INFORMATIVE
"all manual settings available"? Can one set the shutter speed and aperture? Or isn't it just the aperture which can be set?
When you connected the Nikon to the Xperia for external monitoring/recording, could you use focus peaking and false color functions on the Xperia, or is that exclusive to alpha cameras?
Can you connect the Nikon to the Xperia for external monitoring/recording or use focus peaking and false color functions on the Xperia? Or is that exclusive to alpha cameras?
Can you record external audio in main video app or you need to use open camera app. I have Motorola mobile and I can only record with external microphone using open camera app that doesn't work with all my mobile lenses and resolutions.
On the Sony yeah you can do this. You can even set the sensitivity of the mic in VideoPro
You have microphone controls within video pro and cine pro. Also wind filter function.
Appreciate the video. It’s Mark 1 five not “V”. I know you guys do mostly pics but for video makers Sony is the real deal. It has real optical zoom and true colors unlike an iPhone.
No, it is Xperia 1 Mark 5
@@Ken-vl4wk the point is, it’s a 5 not a V. SMH

@@doctormarazanvose4373 that’s color grading. If you know anything about color palette and white balance you wouldve know. Smh
The weak point with Sony smartphones has unfortunately always been the short two year update period.
To be more accurate it was an Android thing. Now big manufacturers like Samsung are upping their game for software support with their latest offerings. Sony has to follow up with that because the price has to be reflected in everything. We are talking about the most expensive of all the offerings.
Android updates are in most cases useless. I have a phone with android 7 which is working perfectly today, without glitches. The most important updates are those made by OEMs that improves the phone's performance on different capabilities (camera, system, battery etc).
@@alxdava2004 Yes, all software developers working on Android updates are idiots wasting their time and you know better.
@@alxdava2004 Well Alex some apps dont work anymore with android 7, that's another reason why i switched my Xperia Z5 compact (Android 7) to get a Xperia X compact (android 8). For example i had to withtdraw an order from an amazon locker, the amazon app is supposed to connect to the locker via bluetooth....seems it needs android 8 and above to do that...
This is absolutely unacceptable damn
for me its not competing with iphone, but my note 20 ultra. I wish they'd put a stylus in the sony, and I'd buy it right now. You could take quality photos and edit with pressure sensitivity all in the same compact form factor of a phone. Though I must say it made your skin look quite orange in that early footage.
OMG!!! This kind of phone is what I have been looking for a while! This is crazy!😮😮😮
great video, thanks
s-cinetone Tony, you missed it in the vlog section, that was going to be so much more better for the sony :)) i wondered why so orange on sony, well, you used the standard sdr
You Can also take pictures of the moon with both yes the Sony phone would be able to zoom in farther, but if you bring the exposure down with the iPhone after zooming in all the way, you tap on the moon and then bring the brightness all the way down or at least as close to the bottom as you want, you can get a good moon shot same with the Sony phone except I don’t think you can move the exposure down. Maybe you can but either way both phones are great for moon shots also, has anyone ever noticed that if you Flip the pictures of the moon after taking them and then turn the picture two times or so you get the same craters that are on the Earth globe, and it looks identical like a mirror, and all of the same areas that the Earth has in the green and blue globe part of the earth. You also get on the moon if you do this it’s an exact replica
For me it’s no contest that the Sony photos look more presentable in most cases. No doubt the iPhone is no slouch though but I am not a fan of all their photo processing, namely the over sharpening that happens on my 12 Pro Max. Causes a lot of photos to look ghastly. Perhaps they have improved this on the 14 and 15, I cannot say from experience. But I’m looking for a change and that’s one of the main reasons I’m trying the Sony.
Switched from P30 Pro to 14 Pro and there's a lot of sharpening and other in-camera processing going on. Especially with scenes that contain clouds, sunsets and morning haze it tends to drastically oversharpen/overcontrast the picture to a point that I have to use (and edit) ProRaw for those situations. I'm going to try the Pixel 8 Pro for a while. Curious about your experience with the Sony by the way.
Which one are accuracy of the colors? I into an experia skin tone more than the iPhone!
Maybe Sony could release an update allowing the full resolution of the main sensor for it's RAWs. And I want to make two criticism of the Xperia because it appears Sony is finally listening! For years I complained to reviewers of the past models that they should test the "Pro" modes. Finally this time finally everyone is doing that, but I was hurt by the monkey paw. With the V Sony finally started doing a bit of "computational photography", but it only shows on Basic/Auto mode. The Dynamic Range is that in the Pro/Manual modes seems very limited is actually very good, even exposing the lights correctly during the night, but only in Basic/Auto mode. Couldn't Sony keep this processing when using manual controls too? The other things is... personally, I don't think that variable zoom camera is doing much. The range is too limited and the less very blurry with low contrast. I don't think is work the cost, not at this quality. Apart for that, it's perfect! And I think that despite the bad result in night video seems in Tony and Chelsea test, you can get dramatically better results adjusting the shutter speed correctly.
A7s3 is 48MP quadbayer , sony blocks this option. Obviously xperia will never have as well.
Is the Sony main camera above 20 Mpix with 3'rd party camera apps?
What's the model of the little monitor? Does it come with the magnetic mount?
i was brought here because been searching for Sony 1V. great content suited for photographer curiosity, but i need to know this. starting from 4:00 timestamp, what camera is used to film that ??? awesome outdoor color and autofocus !!!
Does anyone know what dongle Tony used to connect the Xperia 1 V with the Nikon Z8?
Hi both of you 💙💜 how is the heat with the Sony? That was an issue in the previous models. Mobile would shut down after 30 min of video.
I've seen some reviews saying that it's gone and they say it's a totally new phone with no issues.
Did I notice On the studio At the end of the video When Chelsea turns her head and look towards Tony, the camera focussed on Tony's eyes perfectly and the other way around??
The colour rendition and sharpness for landscape and street work is great on the XPERIAS. The buggy software and bad software support is not so great.
Thanks!
Xperia 1V and I phone 14 pro literally have the same camera specs on the wide angle 24mm main camera lens which is 48MP. Probably compare the lens modes of each phone to get a close comparison? Ultra wide vs ultra wide, telephoto vs telephoto, and 24mm vs 24mm. i Phone 14 pro max's ultra wide is also 12MP but Sony Xpreia 1V's 24mm is also 48MP similar to the i phone. When it comes to the macro capability, both have the same 20cm minimum focus distance by using the 24mm lens so technically they have the same or similar macro capabilty. The sony camera has better telephoto than the iphone but the iphone has slightly wider focal length with the ultra wide. All in all in my opinion if we compared each lens respectively on their own specific focal lengths, xperia would hands down be better. Thanks for the review.
why you compared the front camera of Iphone with rear camera of sony?
What camera do you use for your youtube videos?
Thanks for your comparison. In Italy an Iphone 14 pro costs € 1469 (Apple website, you can save some money on other website) and Sony Xperia 1 V about € 1650 from Amazon. I really love the PRO feature of the Sony (apps, mini jack connector, sd) but the image quality is not a big jump from iPhone. Iphone is all about software and yes, sometimes it fails (orange portrait, not good wb); so both have pros and cons but i ask myself: what's the point of spending about € 1500 in a mobile phone that pretends to be a prosumer camera tool when the quality can't even compare to a APS-C camera of the same cost (thinking, for example, about some Fuji cameras)...and you're going to spend a lot more considering, for example, the external monitor. I'm an amateur photograper, and i admit that a good camera phone can save your holidays photos, but in my opinion Sony Xperia, Iphone (Samsung Galaxy, Xiaomi, etc etc) can't be considered prosumer or pro tools...expecially at this price.
Can u make a comparison between sony and Huawei p60 pro
How could sony do that worse in the low light video? It's impossible for me to believe, i assume something must went wrong in the sony, like it have cropped heavily in active stabilization or 4k@120fps mode. Or it had recorded in 48mp mode instead of binned 12mp, or something is wrong within this unit.
Probably used Photo Pro (not great for videos) with wide dynamic range turned on (which shoots at 120 FPS). Video Pro will result in much better footage as it unlocks longer shutter speed, higher ISO and better noise reduction algorithm.
Apple use as default 4K@60 with frame stacking. Sony does not.
Definitely performs much better in low light than in their tests. Not sure what settings they used.
11:25 APPLES AND ORANGES SITUATION WAIT WHAT LOLLZ 😂😂😂😂
Wonderful mobile review 😊
a little strange that it has 52 MP but only takes 12 MP stills. I myself have the cheaper xperia 10 V and it takes still images in 48 MP but video in 12 MP on the main camera. or did you choose 12 MP to compare.
Excellent video, as always thank you very much. You can activate the IPhone 14 ProMax camera by tapping twice on the Apple logo on the back, there is a tutorial on KZhead. It's a pity about the saturation of the colours, it's true but in Raw it can be corrected. As a general rule the Xperia seems to take better photos, but I think the IPhone beats it in videos.
Xperia 1 V has 4K 120 FPS HDR 10 Bit and S-Cinetone tho.
@Tony we need a Sony Alpha A 7 R V menu setting tutorial like in the other cameras!!! Please!
Why the 48mp mode on iPhone vs the 12mp on Xperia for stills? You could have put the iPhone in its default 12mp mode
Jeepers, screen wipes for phones and hand cream for Tony. Chelsea, you're perfect.
I have the Sony Xperia - and although it’s a wonderful camera - I’ve experienced the overheating issue firsthand. When pushed the phone overheats and basically shuts down. You have to wait until it cools before video functions are restored.
They fixed this in the mark V version. No issues so far with mine.
in low light you have to film in hdr to get good results
Record video via a cable?? We need a video on this feature! Will it use the connected camera as a camera in apps like facebook live, instagram and TikTok?
You can stream, yes, so long as the RTMP protocol is supported.
@@SupremelyBX Thanks, but the connected camera showing up as a native camera in app is what I’m looking for. How the Yolobox instream does it.
@@JeffSpeers There is a specific app for the external screen function. You cannot use this function in third party apps.
hi guys don't shoot the messenger, please 😅 9:15 in low light I noticed your camera is filming with having few dead pixel
6:35 that’s not more details on the iPhone, that’s word processing, basically adding details that do not exist (in this case the letters it has detected) using ML algorithms “Deep fusion”, it fails in certain scenarios (finer details) like in the back the wood lines on the house are better and naturally represented by the Sony.
One thought that I have had for a while now is that Sony's phone cameras are more balanced to the oriental market, and mainly Japan. I have noticed that Japan in particular tends to like color accuracy. I think that tends to also be the case throughout Hong Kong and S. Korea, but it is probably strongest in Japan. Oddly, the Samsung look seems to me about as highly processed as Apple, but differently. The Sony look can be very subtle. I remember an ad for a Japanese product that pointed out that Japan was a major center for graded pearls. Was that a Fujifilm ad? I'm not sure. But yeah, subtlety, accuracy -- I tend to see these in Japanese photography. When I look at the Sony phones (like my Xperia 10 iii), these are what I find. I wonder what I would see if I looked at other Japanese phones? There are phones in Japan that we do not see in North America. I wonder if they are closer to Sony's in some ways?
are you kidding me? - did you not see those 2 orange people in the Sony video?
Interesting comparison. Maybe a dumb question, but did you shoot in RAW on the iPhone? I constantly forget about that, but it makes a difference in the outcome!!
They say in the video during the sky comparison that they are unsure whether the iPhone has manipulated the RAW photo. They shot in RAW on both phones.
@@JensVesterChristiansson-wr4lz I missed that one, thank you!
Sony is soo underrated
#1:37 Please explain to me, Why is it good that a phone focus when you halfpress the shutter button? Is not most smart phone cameras focusing constantly without the need of pressing a button?
You can set it to AFS which allows you to lock the focus with a half press
I swapped from Android to iPhone a few years ago and I know that it takes more than a better camera to get me back to team green. But it's still great to see a good comparison, it also forces apple to stay on their toes and actually improve their stuff. Some notes though: on the lock screen you can just swipe left to get the camera on the iphone. You can also add a shortcut to double (or triple) tap the apple logo, that's what i've done. Also the iphone low light blows me away, not every time, but most of the times. Like how it handled the video here that's amazing.
Lowlight video here was night and day.
I can see a future version with a small integrated selfie display on the back next to the camera array.
When is the Z8 review dropping? I wonder if Chelsea is switching.
It is funny, a few videos ago you guys were speculating that Sony was going to put Android in their phone(s). My comment at the time was it was far more logical, given the indicators in the aforementioned video, that a killer smart phone app that is fast and reliable (in this case with their own hardware) would be far, far more useful. I believe this device goes to illustrating my point, having far more updatability allowing far more functionality both stand alone and in combination with a camera. I'm sure we could go point counterpoint (like I agree that cameras, particularly high end ones at this point) should have much faster and reliable communications with apps. But, the hardware you portray seems to be a good step toward my vision where features (like combining pixel shift images, or combining features - time laps, hdr, ... through some type of UI that directs the camera as to what to do) can be provided in a phone (or perhaps more like a "creator" device, even having specialized processors for doing some of this work) while avoid price point shock moving forward. Basically, to me this is the start of real camera phone synergy. Good video, keep it up!
The Xperia’s are wonderful for consuming content. Watching 4K movies and listening to Hi Res audio are sublime experiences on a smartphone.
On a toilet at that!
