God, that opening 30 seconds is like a time warp back to the 90's... If you lived through that time, you can listen to those 30 seconds and remember where you were that beautiful summer, when nothing mattered, and everyday lasted forever and blended into the next..... what a time that was.

It's not even about the music anymore, it's about all the flashiness and all that extra "artistry & pageantry" to boost the price of tickets. "Raves" are one step away from having "Budweiser" slapped all over them. 😢

I spent my July 97. in England and in Manchester Virgin store I bought my first CD ever, Trainspotting soundtrack. I was 17. And now you ask me what I feel when I bump into this tune with 43 on my back? I feel like bursting into tears, that's what I feel. And when I try to explain to youngsters that 20s are the best yet shortest decade that will never return I see they just don't understand my language.

This song transcends time and space. Transports me back to 1996 fresh out of college and choosing life. It never gets old or dated. I could and have listened to it on repeat for a weekend. Rarely does a song of this length (except ones by The Cure) sustain their appeal, energy and focus.

Honestly I'd say that "You wanted a hit" is a good candidate. Super long intro but the long buildup is so worth it.
@petrinafilip9611 ай бұрын
Yup The Cure hit the same. So great. Instilled a love of techno (as we called it in the 90s as high school kids) or house music deep inside of me. I could also listen to it for a weekend. Also, I love the references without shame to babes and babes and babes and wet tampons. Yikes. Gross. Also, stop with the velvet mouth stuff. I am clearly 44 and old. Shouting LAGERRRR LAGER. Okay, mega whitething. Are you making this up on the fly? I love those lyrics. Makes no sense, except …girls and drinking. I mean. Don’t get me wrong. The best things in life..I’m a girl and I drink. This song wears me OUT these days. It’s almost ten minutes. I could clean a bathroom and make tea in less time. You were fresh outta college so you’re a bit older than I but..let’s go back to the 90s? Take my hand.

Yes i do and I hate it. Makes me feel sick. I can't imagine what deep addicts or trauma survivors go thru to feel this as a person who is both but not with hardcore drug of choice and abuse but not the deepest depth of feelings of abuse. A child of the 90s and 2000s EDM scene and raves, I drenched myself in this stuff. Judge me all you want, but deep EDM is like classical music to me with a massive beat and meaning. My eye's looking like dinner plates (hmmm, guess why), deep philosophic and yet primal reaction to this insane music. I have never ever been in a group of people so gorgeous than those time with my EDM circle of friends some of whom were DJs and they were my dearest friends. Yeah ok, have a crack at me but you're never gonna take away from me those amazing moments, big name DJs, at least 16 mates on the town seeing the best DJs of the time and everyone is in such a great place. No violence, no crap, pure enjoyment with really smart music with a message and a shake your arse off attitude. Why not?

I was at a festival in the uk last summer. We were right at the front for the previous set but were talking about leaving to get drinks soon when a 40-something-banker-type guy turns around and says in a gravelly voice “you’re not going to want to miss this one.” I had no idea how right he was until the first few chords of this song blast out into the crowd and we’re blinded by lazer beams. A tidal wave of memories hit me like a brick wall from when I was too young to be watching trainspotting and letting it envelop me and my life. It was a feeling that could not be replicated. Ever.

I hate that I barely caught the extreme tail end of it. I went to my first rave in 2006 when I was 14 and I just had this feeling that it was an echo from a different time. When I was like 6 or 7 I had seen raves on TV and in movies, and heard stories from friends' older siblings and I was really looking forward to it. It was fun, but after the first one, the rest of the underground raves I went to got broken up by the cops within an hour or two. Sometimes they were there before people even got set up. I did get to experience the heyday of emo but that's not nearly as good as the 90s rave scene. There were bad vibes all around, lots of drama and abusers. I don't know if raves had the same problem but it wasn't remembered because the internet wasn't around, or if it was less of an issue because ravers were slightly older than emo kids or something.

So I feel connected to their youth through this film and music. I never knew my dad until 2016 when I was 21 and a few months later we went to the cinema to watch Trainspotting as it is his favourite film (I’d never heard of it) and then a few days later T2 came out so we watched that as well. A couple days after watching the first Trainspotting we went to watch T2 Trainspotting and as we watched it I realized that the movie was about aging and growing older. Knowing this while sitting there with my parents who were then in their late 40's, I don't know, I just get very emotional when I hear that melody at the start of this song.

man... i remember the first time i watched trainspotting, one of the most weird and most story rich films ever laid in front of my eyes. but being Scottish and watching the film just made me proud that a master piece was filmed here and was about the rough heroin addiction which was actually a serious back in the 90s along with alcohol abuse and extreme violence, i was raised around people exactly like this, everyone just wanted to have a good time and get drunk while blasting this sort of music, this movie for sure shaped Scotland and other places as well, let this music play on....
@sirturka5853 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I think what really makes Trainspotting what it is, is due to the fact that, in an artistic and beautiful way, puts on display the fucked up toxic culture we have been a part of. I remember when I was teen in the mid-late 00's, having a mate of sorts, who was a drug user himself, alcoholic, blades, etc, sort of became the ned type over time. He romanticised in films like Trainspotting, Sweet 16, and similar films that, in his mind, probably brought himself some sense of belonging and/or understanding regarding his situation. We went to an independant/private-ish fee paying style school, and he was by the craziest guy I've ever met. I remember when we were 13, he came to my door one time, water bottle chalk full of vodka. The boy would regularly be in hospital to have his stomach pumped, smoked dope in every way conceivable, cocaine, ecstatsy, party pills, the lot. Whether or not he shot up, I'll never know. Thankfully I decided to distance myself before I got too involved in all that myself. The strange thing was, that this guy lived in a good area, with loving parents, successful sister, went to a very academic school. Yet, for reasons unknown to me, he was an alcoholic and a drug addict. After a hiatus in our association with each other (moved between households), I went over to his place. He confessed that he was planning to stab me. I didn't take it seriously at the time. Needless to say however, that friendship didn't last! And, with no disrespect intended, I sometimes wonder where I would be now, and what life would be like, had I not been exposed to all of that.

If anybody watches trainspotting, the scene when begbie brings Renton down for a cig. This song kicks in as the smoke hits Rentons face. Brilliant film , direction n soundtrack. Say no more 👍
Does anyone else get a lump in the throat with the intro of this song? It's unbearable and beautiful and I can't believe the deep emotions this song brings.
Yes i do and I hate it. Makes me feel sick. I can't imagine what deep addicts or trauma survivors go thru to feel this as a person who is both but not with hardcore drug of choice and abuse but not the deepest depth of feelings of abuse. This music only makes me imagine that those who enjoy have gone thru the unimaginable worst.
same here, damn intro gets you all existential, emotional, nostalgic and a shot of feelings at the same time. such a simple tune yet so powerful

Brings me back to the 90's. Seattle to London and back a few times: cool girls, great music, and far too many drugs, but this was life for those of us drinking deeply in those days. This book and subsequent film managemed to capture that zeitgeist perfectly.
This track drives and there’s no bass! It’s a stripped back beast with pads that take you to another dimension. The vocals present a concept of a movie besides trainspotting. Absolutely class act, pure creativity here.
Tracks without bass that hit you like a train are the best!
When this is used at the end of Trainspotting it's the perfect marriage of music, visuals and dialogue.
it ties everything together in such a beautiful way doesnt it
Just takes me back to my teenage years... time machine, masterpiece
man... i remember the first time i watched trainspotting, one of the most weird and most story rich films ever laid in front of my eyes. but being Scottish and watching the film just made me proud that a master piece was filmed here and was about the rough heroin addiction which was actually a serious back in the 90s along with alcohol abuse and extreme violence, i was raised around people exactly like this, everyone just wanted to have a good time and get drunk while blasting this sort of music, this movie for sure shaped Scotland and other places as well, let this music play on....
This song brings back nice memories... as long as they're buried underground.

I was playing games on my pc (X-Wing, to be precise), and contrary to my habit to have the game sound on my stereo, I had tuned into some radio station instead. I can't remember why I did that, but it must've been a sign from the universe. Imagine this 14-years-old kiddie, playing some sim game with his joystick and listening to Born Slippy at around 11pm in the evening. It was a remarkable experience I'll never forget.
14 years it took me but I have discovered this little gem at last. What a delightful song.
Never ever gets old ❤
1996 was a good year
not for Balkan
We'll never have those years back... they were the best!!
year of birth, so you're right on that brother.

oh to experience the 90s. im a 00s kid, but trainspotting is my favourite film for so many reasons. its the most disgustingly beautiful masterpiece in cinema, in my opinion, and i feel like this song just ties everything all together
