The movie sliver bought me here, sliver 1992
My children cannot believe these songs like this are at least 30 years old. They sound timeless.
👨👩👧👦
Unlike most of the crap that was out in the 90s with it.
@@kyachdistent1301 ча]+
Timeless and still fresh !!! And also classique! Much better than the comparison betw. the 50s to the 80s or betw. the 60s to the 90s of course. But what scares me more... THAT IT IS at least 30 yrs ago now, when i just turned to a young adult. Where did time go? But glad for THAT experience... You just have to replace the old 80s cars with new ones with the PC...it could easily be a NEW song😆!!!
@@kyachdistent1301 Absolute nonsense
RIP Dan Kneece. The Steadicam operator for this music video. Dan explaining how he shot this: "This shot was done in the early 90's, long before Segways, with an Arri III, a 3 to 1 Cooke lens (heavy), a 400ft mag, I made it through 6 takes before I was totally exhausted and could do no more.." A legend, a light-hearted and compassionate man has left us forever.
This filmclip always will remind me of my only holiday in the USA. To be fair, I was a kid. From a naive Aussie family in '98. Now that I realise some of the areas we went to because, why not?. Didn't even have Travellors insurance. Really hope it was some Crips who "found" my Duty Free Winfield Blues. LA and Mexico. Had a blast, us crazy Aussies. And everyone was chill in the US and Mexico. NO ONE gave us hustle. Drank Jungle Juice with my brother in Tijuana.... And the worm turned us both.... Stay Safe.
Thanks for sharing and lifting someone else up. Such an ethereal, moving song. It is really cool hearing about your friend behind the scenes.
Thanks for this info! Brings some more depth to the feeling of it after reading that. Such an iconic piece of film he made.
@@user-vu9ys5wm7d very well said. Thanks. Have a great day.
Hadn't realized his Passing until now... One of my favourite cinematic Videos that I still want to walk that route that He created in '92...R.I.P.
The strings, the bells, the light, the walking, the people in her orbit. MASSIVE!
ATTACK ❤
And those people in her orbit include the three members of Massive Attack - Robert Del Naja, Andrew Vowles and Grant Marshall 0:43 Grant Marshall appears in a burgundy bomber jacket, looking in a shop window. As Shara Nelson passes he turns to follow her with a young child in blue denim, turning left down the side street in the background at 2:18, just as Robert Del Naja appears in a long green coat, standing by the telephone. As Shara passes the shop door RDN turns to follow her, then at 3:17 Andrew Vowles appears in a long dark coat, pushing a trolley, with both remaining in the background until the camera pans forward at 4:12

April 2024, and this will always be one of THE Classic tracks of All Time 😊😊
In my humble opinion, the most beautiful piece of popular music in the last 30 years. It somehow manages to be cold, warm, mechanic and human at the same time. The brilliance of this song is that it combined the tradition of soul music with what was then an amazingly forward-looking style of music without sounding like a gimmick or a cliché. The beat, the samples, the scratching, the strings, Shara Nelson's voice, that heartbreaking vocal and the production... Everything here is about subtlety, balance and everything fitting together at the right time. And it's truly heartbreaking that Shara Nelson didn't have the career she deserved when you know she co-wrote this masterpiece.
Tl;dr: "I really like this song. It's my favourite."
you're perfectly right
it was my father yea. sometimes he rambles =/ right now though my ear is free as he is out returning video tapes
Groundbreaking and fantastic, agreed. The most beautiful since 1986 , hmmm that needs a discussion. I'll throw in Seal's debut album and 'Walking Wounded' for a start.
"Like a soul without a mind in a body without a heart I'm missing every part"
It's 2021 and this is still one of the greatest songs ever
Right.
And the video too, that single cut with all those perspective changes... Great stuff.
Yes
100%
Always will be!
Before the world lost the plot... one of the greatest!
Man, the song, the sound, the vibration, the melody... Sad, but makes me alive
One of the many reasons why this is a classic is that no other song has ever sounded remotely like it: the strings, the beat, the lyrics, the scratching and weird percussion sounds, but, most of all, Shara Nelson's unique vocals. For me, it brings back memories of things that never happened.
Well said
Also, it has no bass.

The 90's were truly taking music into its limits, Massive Attack and Trip-Hop in general was a great example to this with the birth of the Bristol sound. Just a real hype to get into a new century overall, As to cite a comment i once read on an Aphex Twin song.

Simply one of the best tunes ever released. There's something so soulful about it and wbatever the string instrument is (violin?) Just builds and adds an urgency to the song. If you could identify exactly what makes this timeless and bottle it you would be a billionaire. Just beautiful.

A great decade for music
As a young person I'm always jealous listening to 80/90s stuff, the music industry has changed so much and they just don't make music like this anymore
In 20 years kids will be saying the same thing to you my friend :) Good music is timeless. It'll always be good no matter what, because what makes music good or not is whether it touches your emotions. I'm sure there's music being made *right now* that you love! Make sure to go and see it live, and in 20 years you'll have a cool story to tell the younguns. (I've seen Daft Punk, Muse, Radiohead, Rage Against The Machine, System Of A Down, Tool, Aphex Twin, The Chemical Brothers, and John Williams the classical guitarist, to name a few)
Yeah but the important thing is that you are discovering good music and you recognise the difference. That's awesome. I am a huge music nerd and I find music to be a time machine and a universal language that crosses all cultures, generations, races, genres and time... What matters is that we share good music with people who we care about... There was something very special about making a mix tape back in the 80s/90s...you'd have to consider the time on each side, usually a 90 min cassette split into 2...try get the theme and flow of the songs and take up as much time as possible... Getting your tape and stack of cds and you'd have to listen to the songs as you record them... So you felt the music you were sharing even more... Click record... Click stop... Change cd... Click record etc... Then you use your best hand writing to make the inlay card. You choose your whole layout like it would be for me usually 1) Massive Attack : Unfinished Sympathy 2) Nirvana : Heart Shaped Box Etc etc... Then you rewind the tape and maybe put a sticker on the case and when you share it you huddle together and you excitedly point out songs and tell them how great the song is... Nothing better than hearing 'oh wow I really love this song and I don't have it!' Music was valued more and people had the attention span for an album, a great album told a story, brought you somewhere and was a soundscape that you could explore over and over... Now music is too disposable, too cheap sounding, relies too much on gimmicks and trends... There's barely enough attention span for a 3 min song letalone something with a coda! Some of my favourite albums Nine Inch Nails: The Fragile Prince: Sign O The Times The Cure : Disintegration Radiohead: OK Computer Oasis: Definitely Maybe Fleetwood Mac: Rumours Manic Street Preachers :Holy Bible David Bowie: Scary Monsters New Order: Substance My Bloody Valentine : Loveless I could do you 100 top albums and there's 4-5 albums by Prince and Bowie I'd suggest here too, majority of New Order, NIN annd Radio head's albums are incredible too... This is just my desert island discs if I wasn't allowed 'best ofs' (I cheat with New Order a bit here though!) I miss out on stuff like In Utereo by Nirvana, Achtung Baby by U2, Rid of Me by PJ Harvey, Debut by Bjork, Aenima by Tool, Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos, Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins, Never Mind The Bollocks by Sex Pistols, Music for the Gilted Generation by The Prodigy, Heaven or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins, Discovery by Daft Punk, Life after Death by Notorious Big, reasonable Doubt by Jay Z, Fear of a Black Planet by Public Enemy, Street Songs by Rick James... Shit dude I can go on an on... Just enjoy what you like and don't give a damn what people think! Enjoy your groove and turn it up high!

Unfinished Sympathy" is a song by the English trip hop group Massive Attack. It was released on 11 February 1991 under the temporary group name Massive.[1] The song was written by the three band members Robert "3D" Del Naja, Andrew "Mushroom" Vowles and Grant "Daddy G" Marshall, the song's vocalist Shara Nelson and the group's co-producer Jonathan "Jonny Dollar" Sharp. It was released on 11 February 1991 as the second single from the band's first album, Blue Lines (1991), on the band's Wild Bunch label distributed by Circa Records.[2] The name "Massive" was used to avoid a radio ban, as the track's release coincided with the Gulf War. Produced by Massive Attack and Dollar, the song incorporates various musical elements into its arrangement, including vocal and percussion samples, drum programming and string orchestration by the arranger Wil Malone

It's not exactly 'small'.
@@fleaship6134 Well ,it's smaller than California and France is 6 times bigger!
One take, the whole video. Every Massive Attack video has very high level of sophistication, skill and triggers emotions.
I loved being a silly 20 year old interviewing them when I understood we would all find them amazing. i'm still little but I'm glad we know this together!!!
This sound, this beat, vocals… simply magic. Period.
The most memorable sound that stuck with me from the 90's.. My youth
31 YEARS after this track was released...and it still gives me goosies all over!
I was born in 1987. I was like 5 years old when I watched the Video for the first time... One of the most beautiful memories of my childhood. And I still think this is epic :)
izabela Igbar I
wellies70 Fuck off
Hahahah I must have accidentally done that reply 6 days ago...sorry
Dave Weston - Is either from Essex or wasn't born in the 80's cause like I'd never say that like.....
izabela Igbar what a fucking lie
90s, last decade of good music.
Legendary. I was 15 years old when this hit was released and i still play it every once in awhile.
Man, watching all these videos of songs that used to be on MTV back in the day just makes me realize how fucking old I've become. :-\
Nostalgia is the ultimate form of loneliness
+No you think?
Said the same thing the other day, about age man To be in the early 90s again 💯✌💝
look at the bright side of things--you have gained a lot of experience since then for example. being happy has nothing to do with age btw. edit: maybe i'm ready too much into things, but your comment has a bit of depression in it.
jamjamsterjiggidyjay So true there, about the happiness & age. It took me to get to the age of 40 just to find a bit of confidence but now I'm all cool other's bring their issues my way bc "I've been there" .. If only we could learn from others mistakes, life is so short, I can't stand the drama's now being older & hella lot wiser!!
I'm 45 yrs old , I was raving/ partying since the tender age of 15 with my older brother and I can honestly say this has to be the finest song I've ever listened to
Same age, same experience. I remember hunting down the dj to find out who it was. It's such a haunting, beautiful song.
I'm 45 too and also partying in the 90s with this song. And then, The Matrix came out.. Massive Attack, Rob Dougan.. those songs got the same/special vibes.
Dude! Massive Attack, Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Daft Punk...the mid 90s was it. Even when you were a nerdy Midwest boy, haha!
Music For ALL SOULS YEAHHH!!!!
Same ♥️
Massive Attack. One of the greats. Music that never dies.
Song just touches your soul....
Yes! Deep!
