  • I never watched the WNBA, so I just recently learned that a season is only 3 months or something. Basically, the players are being paid for practicing their hobby in a loss making league. Any payment is a pretty good payment under these circumstances. If the league growths and starts becoming a net positive product, things will change. If not, stop asking for money that isn’t earned. The stars like CC will make their money with sponsorships, that’s where market value comes into play.

    • I guess the theory is the season goes up the more money it attracts and the more teams they get. Similar to the PWHL plans

Then turned into Jordan against everyone Barkley, Stockton, Malone, Kemp,Olijiwan, Payton, Ewing, Starks, Miller, etc! Then Kobe, Shaq, Iverson, Lebron then Lebron, Steph, Durant, etc! In order to grow a league you need real rivalries! For the wnba nobody can think of one rivalry that stands out, ever! So they need Caitlyn and Reese to both do well and go at eachother! Two years in college they had prime time games and both lived up to the hype! So the wnba has to build up the hype and play off it and build that rivalry! • Just looking at the stats, It would be better to say that Clark and Reese were the reason that so many ppl tuned in to watch that game. Reese was her arch nemesis, and ppl love seeing these things. Clark may get a lot of the recognition, but would so many ppl have tuned in had these two women not had their rivalry. She deserves her flowers, but last year, we saw a lot of amazing talent in womens basketball that gave it an overall boost. South Carolina had a flawless season and came out with the championship over Iowa, and yet everyone seems to be brainwashed into believing that Clark is the only thing that happened 🤦🏽‍♂️.

Everyone acts as though women’s college basketball NEVER existed until she, and she ALONE played. SHE was in 2 straight championships and lost BOTH?!? As you stated, where were the accolades deserved by South Carolina’s amazing season? Considering the majority of the “Caitlin Clark craze” seems to coming from people who admitted they never watched the games before, I think they need to go back in time and watch Cheryl Miller, Candace Parker, Diana Tarausi, and other players who ACTUALLY made women’s college ball with watching. Then and only then will their comments be worth listening to.

Of course there were other great female players before her, but noone was interest in watching them play. But they are interested in Clark and to a degree her nemesis Reese. Those 2 could do for the WNBA what Magic/Bird did for the NBA. There were a lot of great players before and during their era, but those 2 saved the NBA! If the heads of the WNBA are somewhat intelligent, they milk those 2 for everything they have.

Look, Caitlyn Clark is a very good basketball player and could school me on the court any day of the week, but eventually like several others that have come into the league the hype will wear off and it will turn into women’s sports. The focus on what goes on in the players' personal lives and a concentrated effort to release that type of content in volume. Simply put, you either need crazy athletic dunks/blocks or coverage on controversy. The NBA provides both of those and it translates. Idk where the $$ comes from in the WNBA but they should market better.
