thats insane how they can swim in open waters for 2 hours then have that exciting close finishes at the end. respect. i cant even sit in the baby pool for 2 hours.
Lol !
because salt water is more denser than ur pool's water
Pio HH.
training, hours and hours training, nothing is easy, they go to the same baby pool to train not to sit.
good plot bro it is like walking 4 years lol
It's 3:30am and I'm addicted to watching olympics replays now...
good to know
Same
Same here !!
me too
same things
I paused the video so they could rest a bit.
That's so kind of you
Hahahahhaaa
AHHAHAHAHAHHA
😂 😂
Who paused the video after seeing this comment?
Spyros Gianniotis is a legend in Greece. He will be remembered for his passion to succeed, fair play and ethos.
@Tim Blanks You're making the Dutch look very insecure, Tim. Not a good look.
@Tim Blanks Gianniotis was 1st boy but simple didnt touch. 12 years difference!
@Tim Blanks are you trying to be funny or something? Dont you understand that the things you say are disrespectful? At the end of the Day Weertman was the winner not you and close your mouth because you cant even swim 50 meters.
furafik fark I absolutely agree with you sir
@Tim Blanks you are so idiot
Gianniotis GRE 1 - 2500m 1:11/100m 2 - 2500m 1:09/100m 3 - 2500m 1:06/100m 4 - 2500m 1:04/100m The ultimate negative split !!! All my RESPECT !!!
😱😱😱
That’s insane lol
@@noahborton1568 I would be impressed if you could. 32-36 second 50m laps are decent
@@noahborton1568 I couldn't swim at that pace at all :D
My best 100m time is 1:05, crazy to see how far they can keep this pace for.
This is just....crazy. How can they swim non-stop for over 2 hours in open ater. Respect!
There is a 25km event at the World Championships as well. 5 hours long :-)
@HardcoreTrader What do you trade?
Most Olympic swimmers swim 2x2hr sessions a day
On this level, i think time and distance is not matter but your skill. They can even continue if they want.
Any decent swimmer can swim in open water for over 2 hours. Just not very fast. To do it fast is the challenge.
That moment when they swim your sprint pace over 2 hours xD
It's not exactly a "moment" XD
Haaaa )))))
@@vietduong231 I think he meant to say "the moment you realise that..."
Absolutely incredible, racing 10KM in open water. Imagine what kind of shape these guys must be in? 2 hours of swimming, and still a photo sprint finish at the end? Mind blowing.
I wish I could come from their genes!
@@kentajin7860 it's not all about genes, it's all about practice, hard work, and mental toughness
@@ngatak6852 oh it's also about genes and something else, hard work is insane tho
Spyros Gianniotis:Legend. Respect.
Gianniotis what an amazing performance...Bad luck 2nd place due to unfortunate timing on hand stroke
even the he would not have gotten it
Vo
VoiceOfReason I don't think he cares because after so many years he finally got an Olympic medal
How do their toes not cramp? how do they not get tired and drown? HOW? Also, does the guy from Greece just swim from island to island for fun?
actually a coworker of mine worked in Greece for 15 years maybe . he used to swim from island to island . he is in his sixties now , but still is a strong swimmer .
actually he does ...
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 IKR????!!!! This must be tough 🤣
Practice
La chiave è l'allenamento e magari avranno preso qualche integratore che li aiuta a non farsi venire i crampi..
I've swum 2km before in an indoor pool and i was pretty done after that. 10km in open water at any pace is insane
Ditto to that 👍 it takes me 50 mins to swim a mile (1600metres) at my local pool.
It's crazy to think that these swimmers swim each 50m faster than the average swimmer would swim an all out 50...and they do it for 2hrs. It's freaking insane
Spiros Gianniotis GREECE - Gold Medal in our hearts !!!
I can't breathe even when I just watch them swimming.... all of them deserve respect!
How can they swim for 2 hours? I can't even swim for 10 minutes
LuckytheLab wow your so cool and witty. Are you single?
These are WORLD CLASS TOP SWIMMERS. It is like there are actually people who can climb mount everest without oxygen supply.
King Blobby , easy as a pie in fact. You need to know how to swim, attend swiming pool regularly for few years, be healthy ofc. The real thing is not how they can last for 2 hours but how they can swim all this time with such high speed as they do. As for me, I can swim half an hour on high speed and 5 hours (maybe longer) in low tempo coz I know how to rest while swimming and not to waste lots of energy. Cheers !
Андрей Иванов Stop boasting. I bet you can't last 2 mins.
iamluite , give up asking stupid questions, dude.
Endurance test at it's toughest form. Simply amazing how people are able to do that.
Ferry Weertman is the winner of the gold in our hearts 🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱
In my view the toughest competition!
i have tried it,after 2km i almost drown ;)
Indeed, and ironman competition too!
most I’ve done is 5k lmaooo
Ruis Glass why do you wink in ur comment 😂😂 u hardly finished 1 fifth of the swim
You never heard of ironman triathlon
Congratulations Gianniotis you won the gold from my point of view.
skotiskiller Easy w for the Netherlands (;
spyros gianniotis silver medalists gold in our harts!
hearts*
Congratulations to all athletes. We love Gianiotis!
If You see Gianniotis crossed the line first but touched the panel second...too sad
Triathlete Vegan no need to be rude.
@Triathlete Vegan no you idiot
Shoutout to the commentator, this guy can make anything sound super interesting
Very inspirational video! The best I did so far in open water is 30 minutes non-stop. These guys are amazing athletes!
AAARGH, what heartache for the Greek!

Respect guys for the work you put in to achieve this.
Gianniotis you don’t need a gold medal. YOU ARE GOLD !!
So much respect for these guys
This really inspires me. Just finished half of the 50m pool and can hardly breathe now :)
i thought after 2 hours they would seperate and it would be clear who's gonna win
Spyros was truly the great winner and winner in our hearts. Very well done Spyro.
Tim Blanks gtfo
Silver medal in the race gold in our hearts !!!!!!! 🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷
This was a superb race. I salute to all these swimmers. Bravo.
pleasure to meet Gianniotis.I am from greece
SPYROS GIANNIOTIS IS A LEGEND! RESPECT!
Gianniotis - Winner of Gold in our hearts!
Just amazing how they swim like that!
steroid
john no, they just train real hard for this
What a race, incredible athletes.
Well done Brazil!!! Great Olympic Games!!
its incredible
gianniotis i love you
The Australian guy did what we call "a death race". You go ahead and hope nobody catches up with you. They almost always fail in their attempt, but if they do manage to keep up the pace (even if inevitably they slow down towards the very very end) the distance created makes it impossible for anyone else to try sprint-catch them at the end.
I tried it once in an 800m running race and got third even though I had a twelve second lead at one point. It’s an ok tactic but it’s much easier to go at a steadier pace the whole way through
he got 21st out of 23 swimmers. shows how that doesn't work
Sports wisdom dictates you build up your rhythm as you go, so you start moderate and finish strong. The opposite is you start strong and turn to mush.
Impossible in a marathon. But maybe successful in a medium distance race.
Yup! It’s so rare that it’s a successful or winning tactic
What a stamina man! I am learning swimming and I know what amount of stamina is needed during swimming...😮 Huge respect to this swimmers 👍👍
All about the breathing man 👍
True
That guy in 2nd place has a better graceful swimming skills.... whereas the third one swim so oddly....but still they are legends...2hours nonstop swim is beyond my imagination
Respect for those all ... Bravest people
Proud of the Liverpool Lad, he'll come back strong. YNWA💥
Actually that was his last race. At age 37, you know that you are shooting your last bullet. Very happy it found a target!
Actually Greece was earlier at the finish line, but you need to be smart in sport and that's what Ferry Weertman is. Touching the plates is what counts.
Man, be fair. It's also with what hand you stroke last. Nobody can calculate that and the Greek just got in with the wrong one. He never contested the decision and had stated beforehand that "all I want is a medal". He had come fourth in London, this was his last chance to make it and he had vast experience. It's not a matter of being smart, sometimes it's just luck... PS. Watch for example how Phelps hitting the button was 2nd BUT since his opponent hadn't pressed hard enough it gave him yet another gold. As I said, to be the greatest sometimes luck is necessary. Still, an Olympic medal, no small feat huh? :-)
olympic silver is something , but olympic gold is forever . long time ago , a boxer from my country went in the final with a broke finger in his left hand from the previous fight . he was a southpaw . he already had the silver , but he wanted the gold . no matter the costs . the one and only box olympic champion from my country so far . this is the fabric champions are made .
Bull Lea us greeks really respect him although he didn't win a gold medal he was considered one of the best athletes even before he won this medal. So no gold is not everything
That's just not true, just pause it at 14.07.
There is no finish line. It's about who touches the plate first.
How can they swim for two hours when I can’t even walk for two hours straight
After watching this I can't breath.
Absolutely amazing
I love the safety precautions they have. They have eyes on everyone
Ferry Weertman, winner of the gold in our hearts.
This is amazing these dudes have my respect, their stamina is amazing, someday I'll have their stamina
What a unique race, with so many photo finishes.
Proud of you Mallouli 😍❤
The momentum of kicking is unbelievable for long distance swimming!
μπραβο σπυροοοοο !!!!!!!!!! δελφινι αργυρο μεταλιο το πηρε με την ψυχη του
Great race!!
I don't know swimming but vicariously I am feeling thrilled. Would learn it at 35 years of age; not an old age to learn 🏊
is never to late. It's an awesome sport
6 sprinting after almost 2 hrs, WOW. I am speechless.
He did a great job.
What a Game!!
Freestyle and like nonstop 🤯 It's insane!
Amazing, and unbelievable , 10KG.
Gianniotis finished first but Weertman touched first. It's sad to see how he didn't win gold because of one very little mistake
24-year old Weertman barely beat a 36-year old. Major respect to Gianniotis!!
You think ANY of these swimmers are losers? That's a sad mentality you have there...
I think it was sad Gianniotis didn't win gold as he could have evidently done so, he did manage to finally grab an Olympic medal though and that's all he ever wanted. There's little sense debating anymore than that as it was a great and exciting race to watch and everyone's happy at the end.
My main question mark is watching the Australian guy Poort in the 2020 Olympics and see how he performs and if he follows the same strategy. What do you think? I'm surely hoping he does!
Gold in their hearts is something personal, I don't think the Dutch have any reason to complain about the Greeks feeling that way. Heck, Gianniotis was 36 at the time, what he did honors the Olympic spirit itself, not only for the achievement but for the fact he simply didn't give up. :-)
really amazing 👍👍
What a race! Hat off!
this commentary is phenomenal
Open water swimming is a totally different beast. 10k swimming is a distance so hard to imaging to swim but you need also consider the current. If you have the current against you, the 10k can easily feel like 13-15k since you are barely moving forward. Which is even crazier
Wow what a race!
WOOOOW
OMG
This is the PINNACLE of sports. Nuffsaid.
greatest race of all time
i want to finish this race in my lifetime
Im happy with result because im from the Netherlands
I consider my self a fit person I regularly run 10k runs few times a week but you put me in pool wow after 100m I think I'm gonna take a heart attack 😂
I watched this for the whole 16mn and felt more out of breath than the actual swimmers.
Such amazing commentary. Do olympic commentators have a code to follow a certain code? I love listening to the Olympic commentators.
Riviting! And a classic example of the idea that creeps in to so many analyzing a race, where you think a great early lead can stress the pace and plan of the competitors but the risk is huge and that early spent energy leaves you with nothing left in the tank for the final run to the finish.
Everyone should gain a gold just for finishing this
Honestly yeah.. Brutal distance
I find it interesting how close the world record paces of swimming and running are when you just divide the speed of a runner by 4. Convert swim pace /100m to lap pace on an athletics track and you're working with similar numbers. Fastest 400m freestyle is 3:40. Fastest mile run is 3:43. Winning time in this video equates to 1:07.79/100m. 1:07.79/400m is a 1:59:10 marathon.
I like calculating the exact stats.. this marathon is around 4:48/400 meters .. comparing that with 3:40 world record of 400.. it's just insane.. unimaginable how they can swim with that pace for 2 hours
amazing
Outstanding 👌
Comment fait on respiration, expiration et combien de battment main en fait pendant quand nage crawl en mer pour glise et nager becaup plus rapid. Merci davance... TheDust
how in the world are they able to keep that pace for 2 hours straight? this is insane
Amazing athletes to be able to swim that long and that fast. It would take me a few days to swim 10k.
Why have all Olympics channel videos been blocked?
Incredible finish after 10 klm tough swim!
Great video swim
wow couldnt believe it, how strong they are
A measure of the best endurance athletes at the Olympics and in the world….
Are you allowed to switch strokes midswim, or you stick with one from start to finish! 🤔 I’ve never known
If all notice at the video 1:35:20 the Australian swimmers turn on the Red buoy. But the chase group did short cut. Couldn't understand the referees didn't see that part.
congratulations 🎉🎉👏
If I crossed a million oceans just to be with you...
Wow keren. Amazing
Yeah amazing. But can you do it in butterfly stroke?
I've done Ironman Triathlon's and I feel these guys pain. Nothing but RESPECT.
No, ya'll can't even begin to fathom how impressive this is.... Many swim practices for any average masters swim club or youth competitive club swimming, will swim about 3.5kms-5kms in a 1.5 hour - 2 hour practice, depending on the focus of that practice..... So these guys, are swimming DOUBLE this amount, in even less time than an average practice of a competitive swimmer.... That is nuts!
Respect!
Gianniotis what an amazing performance... He jsut lost because the dude from Netherlands touched the button first. Spyros was first. BUT i admit that Weertman won fair and square. ... Bad luck 2nd place due to unfortunate timing on hand stroke.
