Dog involved in car crash runs to doggy day care a mile away for help

A spooked dog took off from the vehicle she was riding in after being involved in a car crash. The 3-year-old Pit bull-mix then ran to a place she knew she would be safe: the doggy day care she frequently visits about a mile away from the crash.

  • This is good advertisement for the Doggie daycare because not only is the dog smart, but she feels so safe at the daycare. They treat the “babies” like their own.

    • We've always been a "rescue house". It became necessary, as so very many lost souls scratched, flapped, or climbed into our lives. Ferrets, cats, dogs, birds, squirrels. I've joked I have a tattoo that people can't see. Last was a fledgling pigeon, who was desperately peeping at the back door. She left a woman. I mean, an adult bird. I prefer when they have some kind of owner tag, but I'll research to find the owner. Or rehome if that is not possible. No one admitted to turning their starving ferrets loose, or a squirrel that they raised and released. The squirrel moved on after napping and getting some food, so....the ferrets were rehomed, washed and fed, to a ferret lover's group. I'm glad I'm a part of their journey, and they feel comfortable asking for help.

    • Ive worked with animals all my life. Rescued and feed the ferals. There were two pittys that wondered into my garage one night. Kept them overnight because there is no animal control at times. When they did arrive the owner was contacted and unable to reach us. They were going to be taken to the shelter for the meantime. I offered to give them a ride home that was less than 5 min away!! Then i watched a lost German shepherd walk up to my porch and looked up at the knob! Ive never seen this dog before in my life. I was able to call the owner and that dog went home safe too. I was blessed to have them come my way for sure. 🐾🙏💕

It wasn't even remotely a mile but maybe 80-100 yards, and the yard was fenced in a way that meant she couldn't look onto the street from there, she was just smelling me coming.

When my first husband-parted amicably-would come to collect the kids for visitations, he’d make the same sounds. He didn’t bark for mailmen, UPS, or utility workers. But then just after my dad died he barked and barked all night. Next day We found out someone had been in the storage barn during the night, rummaging through dads tools. I miss that old dog. He was so smart.

    • One interesting fact: Dogs have such a great sense of smell because they have lots of specialized olfactory receptors, around 300 million, while we only have about 6 million, however many of those 6 million receptors we have are specialized for identifying geosmin (pertichor), associated with the smell of rain, to the point where we can identify it by 5 parts in a trillion. 5 parts in a trillion is insane, it is 1000x better than sharks at smelling blood, it would make a dog fell jealous, we can smell rain from miles away and we don't give it much thought.

  • This reminds me of Rex, a German Shepherd, owned by my 2 sisters and brod-in-law in Dubai. One hot summer day their garage was unwittingly left open by the househelper and Rex took off and run on the street. All members of the family were at work and when informed of what happened, they started calling a rescue animal group. Then, they received a call from their family vet -- Rex came by himself to the clinic and simply sat down in the receiving area. The vet staff who saw him thought the owner was around. The clinic staff knew Rex so they called one of my sisters. Rex has already passed away but this story never gets stale in our family. It was so hot outside so Rex went to the place he knew he would be safe, he could cool himself and would be picked up for home. Still miss him a lot.

On walks around our neighborhood I take comfort in the fact that now he knows how to get back home if he ever got lost again -- though he's also not allowed outside unsupervised during storms and we put patio pavers over the area he dug out, too.

For anyone considering seat-belting their dog....Just please make sure the dog seatbelt is attached to a dog's body harness and NOT to a dog's neck collar. • @@user_J117 Without being able to cite research about it, dogs are intuitive and, of course, very loyal. In my view, the a dog rarely leaves its owner's side in times of emergency. The opposite is more likely to happen. I don't think the dog jumped out of the car strictly out of fear, and he understood that veterinary clinic staff knew him and his owner, so seeing him arrive, agitated and alone, they (the clinic staff) would naturally wonder why, and would look for the owner, or try calling the owner's phone to report his arrival there, and hence discover her situation. So, the dog was seeking help by arriving alone and showing stressed and anxious behavior. In plain terms, he went for help. That is a demonstration of high intelligence and loyalty.

    @Catchmyvib2@Catchmyvib22 ай бұрын
    • Not without specific training & I doubt her owner wants to give her up. If the owner doesn't have a disability, why would she need a service dog? And the dog is s little old for service training, tbh. Just a very good doggo.

    • @@montananerd8244 nonsense, I have seen dogs older than this one who have gone through service training with no problems and many of them are pitties or pit mix.

    • On what basis?? What disability does the owner have? What commands does the dog perform that helps her owner deal with the disability??? Please learn the laws for service dogs.

      @1packatak@1packatak2 ай бұрын
    • Wrong. First of all service dogs r only for those with disabilities. Secondly there is NO such thing as registration from the federal government for service dogs. Thirdly, a bs registration, or a dog just running up to a day care, is NOT what makes a dog a service dog. The extensive training that a dog has to go through to be able to successfully help their handler with a disability is what makes a dog a service dog. And there is way more than just a few basic obedience training that goes into service dog training. And not all dogs r cut out for service work. NEVER fake a pet dog as a service dog, and NEVER even suggest to anyone that they should do that. Crap like that does NOTHING but cause major problems for real service dog teams, businesses, and the rest of the general public.

    • @@RazgrizF14D it is not a good idea to use older dogs for service work. It's best to start with a puppy or young adult. Training for service work can take a good 1 1/2 - 3 years to complete. And the dog is not used for service work it's entire life. A dog is retired from service work when it starts reaching it older years, or if it develops issues with health and or behavioral. Example if u have a breed of dog that lets say has a life span of around 13 years. And let's say u start at puppy age. That means the dog will probably be around 2-3 years old when it finishes training. And u would adopt/purchase ur next service dog prospect when ur current dog is around 7-8 years of age. A current service dog can help train the next service dog in training. And ur current service dog would officially retire around the age of 9. Meaning that dog will no longer do service work for the elder years (9-13) of it's life. Meaning the dog was only a full trained service dog for about 6-7 years (meaning when it was around 2/3 - 9 years of age). If u have a breed that only lives around 13 ish years old, and u r starting it's training at the age of 4-6 ish years old, then it wouldn't be completing it's training until it would be around 6-9 years old. Meaning it would be close to or at retirement age by the time it finishes its training. This is why older dogs r not used for starting service training.

Dogs see potential friends everywhere. That dog got scared and ran to safe place asap : "Buddies open up, open up, you won't believe what happened" 😅 It's great to see that the owner didn't loose her beloved dog.❤
